I booked a hair appointment for late August, right before a wedding I'm in. I haven't had my hair done since March! My roots are bananas, I covered them slightly with drugstore orange hair dye. But, I don't have to look work-presentable than then so I'm just going full hippie. xp

i have been enduring awkward stages as I grow out my hair but it's looking pretty good these days, maybe could use a shape up in the next few weeks -- either dry shampoo or sea salt spray definitely help cut the grease that always seems to build up & flatten it out on the 2nd day, also adds volume and texture which is great. i want big hair! big wavy leonine shag of majesty, please & thank you

So I thought this thread is really the only appropriate place to explain what I have done with my hairs today:
1) Wet it down with water from the garden hose. Hairs had not been washed since uuuuuuh long time2) Put some sort of L'Oreal deep conditioning shite in there. Combed through and donned shower cap3) Hung out sweating for a few hours. Heat treatment!4) Thought what the hell, added some coconut oil5) Repeat step 36) Thought what the hell, added a beaten egg7) Repeat step 38) Gonna next wash the hairs with shampoo9) Gonna then put conditioner with added honey into the hairs for a few minutes10) Gonna rinse out the conditioner and then do final rise with apple cider vinegar11) Profit?

Seriously if I'd had an avocado and/or yogurt on hand, I would have thrown it in there, why not?

My mother swear by washing your hair in beer. She says the first day it reeks but then the smell goes away and your hair is super shiny. Of course my moms does enjoy a drink so I'm hesitant to go along with any suggestion that involves alcohol.
― educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Friday, 19 July 2013 14:03 (twelve years ago)
Back when I rode horses, we used to wash them in baby shampoo+beer so they would be shiny for shows!
It takes my hair so damn long to dry, so it was still damp by the time I went to bed. So I added "clip roots with duckbills for lift" and "pineapple bun" to the mix. Have not yet taken it all down; will report back when I do.
I smell very faintly of apple cider vinegar, which is a lot better than smelling like Chipotle.
― quincie, Friday, 19 July 2013 14:35 (twelve years ago)
pineapple bun
this sounds tasty as well tbh
― ⚓ (elmo argonaut), Friday, 19 July 2013 15:22 (twelve years ago)
It does. Like a cross between a sticky bun and pineapple upside down cake.

^^^^ moi aussi
Hair report: hairs look much better! Not a surprise after a "care" regimen that went soak in salty ocean water/soaked in chlorinated pool water/don't bother to rinse/repeat.
Softer, for sure. And the clipping and pineapple bunning made for good waves when I undid them this a.m. Now if only someone other than my husband "looks nice, like it always does!" were around to appreciate my kitchen cupborad efforts.

haha. YUM.
i imagine braided hair worked into a bun would look like a pineapple?
― educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Friday, 19 July 2013 19:58 (twelve years ago)
I know this from when q told me when I asked about how to deal with wet hair while sleeping!
It's when you pile all of your hair on top of your head and stick it in a loose bun with a hairband, and then put on a sleep cap or t-shirt or whatever. It's a thing you can do to wavy/curly hair to keep it from frizzing out overnight, and is so named because it gives you a pineapple head.
― Lawyer... SUAVE... (carl agatha), Friday, 19 July 2013 20:00 (twelve years ago)
ahah!
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 19 July 2013 20:02 (twelve years ago)
Carl, I impressed with your progress in Curly Hair Studies! I don't do a sleep cap or other wrapping, but that would probably help. Back at home, I admittedly have been known to use a satin pillowcase.
― quincie, Friday, 19 July 2013 22:28 (twelve years ago)
im still totes confused how this method prevents humidity?
― educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Friday, 19 July 2013 22:34 (twelve years ago)
xp I couldn't find a good way to sleep on wet hair, by the way. I think it's a combo of the layers and having short bangs, and my hair kind of creasing close to my scalp if I arranged it wrong (made more obvious by the layers) so no matter how careful I was, I'd wake up with half spike bangs or a piece from the back bent forward towards the front that I couldn't get to go back to normal unless I wet it.
Maybe one day with a different haircut it will work, because I sure liked showering at night and sleeping more in the morning.
