i just dug my orange eyeshadow out of my backup box of make up (which I use for stuff I buy and don't like immediately so I put it on the bench and then it goes into the rotation when I rediscover it again or use it for halloween etc)

I love the way orange looks on my eyes! though I will freely admit that I straddle the line leading me straight to the circus pretty heavily.

That sounds intriguing. I would like to see this on either/both of you. IIRC I had orange eyeshadow in high school and like it a lot, although it's hard to imagine that looking good on me now.

I want that lipstick!!!

quincie, Friday, 31 May 2013 01:43 (thirteen years ago)

My Prescriptives foundation is suddenly way too light-coloured, clingy, and tacky. Got a sample of Aveda tinted moisturizer in Beechwood, but it's so subtle I don't think it does a thing. Next stop, BB cream.

i feel like I have unlocked a hidden secret with blotting

it's seriously saving my face, ty carl for testifying abt this lol

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 31 May 2013 17:52 (thirteen years ago)

I read somewhere yesterday that rolling papers make for really good blotting papers which totally makes sense and they're so cheap!

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Friday, 31 May 2013 17:56 (thirteen years ago)

That makes a lot of sense! Probably need to get the kind without the glue, though.

Yay VG! Blotting! It's the best.

carl agatha, Friday, 31 May 2013 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

i bought CC cream from smashbox and honestly not that impressed. for me l'oreal is the only brand that got BB cream right.

good thing you weren't posting about needing neither Nars nor Neutrogena

oh man i've just discovered lipstains and they are some NEXT. LEVEL. SHIT. i can't believe i've been so ignorant for so long! they're everything i always wanted in a lip color!!!!

i got a couple of NYC ones, which are amazing and last for hours, and i also wanted to try the revlon just bitten ones, but their packaging/marketing is confusing - there is the "lipstain + balm" and there is the "lip balm stain", and both are called "just bitten". i got one of the balms, which is just a tinted balm with a little more staying power.

i also picked up some of revlon's nearly-naked foundation, and it seems pretty good so far - the color is a waaaaay better match than i've managed to achieve the last two times i've bought foundation.

just1n3, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 06:05 (thirteen years ago)

Re Revlon, the lip stain + balm is the far superior product. On one end it's a marker type applicator and on the other is a little plug of lip balm to use on top. Good stuff.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 12:09 (thirteen years ago)

^^^ agreed. i hate wearing lipstick and lip gloss is a little too girly for me but I love lip stains

educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

oh a couple of quick primer reviews:

Alamy Smart Shade primer (the one with the purple and green spiral) - Gross and greasy, doesn't seem to work like a primer at all. Reminds me of the old school Oil of Olay that my mom used to wear but without the color.

Revlon Miracle Blur - AWESOME. Not greasy. Feels velvety, as does skin after application. Visible improvement in how skin looks. Would probably just wear this on weekends and skip the foundation altogether.

educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 13:56 (thirteen years ago)

Meaning it makes skin look good enough without adding foundation to the mix that I would wear only the primer on weekends. Would wear under foundation for work.

educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 13:58 (thirteen years ago)

A good primer is like magic

educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 13:59 (thirteen years ago)

For real. I'm still weirdly in love with Benefit's Dr. Feelgood and have been wearing that alone.

I will check out Miracle Blur.

sunny you mentioned CC cream earlier and I keep seeing ads for it. Is this a thing I need to pay attention to? I never got into BB cream, so is CC cream for me or should I wait for the inevitable DD cream?

carl agatha, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 14:16 (thirteen years ago)

i have the exact same opinions regarding those 2 primers. i swear by revlon miracle blur

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 15:16 (thirteen years ago)

I've been using monistat as a primer - seems to work pretty well, but I've never tried any other actual primer.

just1n3, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

wait, what? the yeast infection stuff??

Carl, i haven't tried CC cream. I love Maybelline's BB cream but all the others I've tried seem useless. I wonder what was added to make the CC grade.

educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 15:26 (thirteen years ago)

skipping directly to ZZ cream

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 15:42 (thirteen years ago)

I had a sample of miracle blur, thought it was a BB or cc cream not primer? Anyway it was magic bc it looked white so I put it all over my face despite being 'medium' then 10 sec later I was bright orange...

kinder, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 15:46 (thirteen years ago)

I don't wear primer that often but when I do I use the Monistat stuff too!

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 15:48 (thirteen years ago)

XP idk maybe i'm mis-remembering and it wasn't miracle blur. Does it start off like white cream then the colour gets kind of activated when you user it?

kinder, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 15:49 (thirteen years ago)

sorry i also was confused. the one i love is revlon beyond natural. it is the best primer i've ever used.

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

I've only used benefit primer which was good enough to convince me that primer is a real thing but it sometimes leaves little bobbles. Might try some smashbox for upcoming family wedding

kinder, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 15:54 (thirteen years ago)

woah monistat. i had no idea!

educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 16:09 (thirteen years ago)

kinder i know maybelline bb cream starts off white. I think most of the alamy smart shade stuff is white. Smart shade is definitely an 'adapts to your own shade' line.

educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 16:13 (thirteen years ago)

i like bare minerals 'prime time' primer. I used smashbox for a while but it made me break out a lot. I'm still planning to try the magic green primer that sunny recommended up thread

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 17:50 (thirteen years ago)

OK so I am making little list here of drug store primers to try:

Monistat (actually I tried this once before and it didn't seem to really make a difference to me? But was definitely not awful)

Revlon Miracle Blur

Others? I'm after something that I can wear alone that will I dunno look better than naked skin, and can also help with sweating? Maybe this is a fools errand.

quincie, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 17:54 (thirteen years ago)

sunny maybe it was the maybelline stuff then! it intrigued me and I was like YEAH and then NOOOO

kinder, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

I think a lot of primers are silicon (silicone? I never get this right) based, so they're essentially blocking your pores - so not great if you're prone to breakouts. I wouldn't use it regularly for that reason alone.

just1n3, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

Monistat vs. Smashbox

tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 22:47 (thirteen years ago)

I tried the Smashbox color correcting primer -- i don't see any difference? there's nothing really corrective about it for me. It just looks like I have regular primer on my face, idk. I'm going to return it.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 24 June 2013 16:49 (thirteen years ago)

wait wait woah. the green one?

educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Monday, 24 June 2013 17:52 (thirteen years ago)

yep! i dunno if my redness is too, i dunno, ingrained? but there's not any noticeable difference. today I made sure to wait half an hour after washing my face to moisturize, and then waited another 30 min or so before applying the primer, so make sure my face was as calm as it could be...no discernible difference

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 24 June 2013 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

also has anyone returned product they're dissatisifed with to Sephora?

I never knew you could, so this would be my first time. Just wanting to make sure they won't give me side-eye

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 24 June 2013 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

Nope! Go ahead, they're used to it.

:D

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 24 June 2013 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

Yep, several times. They're really great at customer service and won't think anything of it at all. Once I returned something there and later realized I'd bought it somewhere else! Whoops.
