I am still pretty pleased with the stick foundation I tried awhile ago. I'm sort of shocked. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing I'd like? But you really can just use a very small amount to blend your face together (or a lot more if you are feeling into Mask Face), and it doesn't feel heavy at all. I do need to moisturize well when I use it, but that is pretty standard. Also the Ulta person told me to use primer under it (and tried to sell me brand matching primer) but I haven't found that to be necessary when I'm just slapping on some makeup for work.
Anyway, it's this stuff - http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod780128
I don't know if I'd say to buy it, but if you can find a sample or something (of this or another kind of stick foundation) it might be worth trying.

interesting! I'll have to investigate that one too.

Veg, my face gets pretty red in the Ark humidity. What you need is something to counteract the redness before you think about coverage. Smashbox color correcting primer in green is exactly for this purpose (green counteracting red)and works a treat ime
http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2233970&productId=xlsImpprod3590053&navAction=push&navCount=1&categoryId=cat80020?cmpid=PSGO&CAWELAID=949668055&catargetid=1542181057&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla
Also, smashbox halo color correcting powder in yellow will seal the deal. no more redness.
answering you're question way up thread, illuminators are strictly for specific use on cheekbones, inner eyes and the bridge of nose. places that are agreeable with reflecting light. I don't understand these foundations with illumination or brighteners because all over coverage tends to have a full moon effect. now bronzer....I'm not sure if that's the same kind of deal. never used it.

Never fear! ILS is here to make all of us feel normal against all irl messages.
oh man this is so important that i can't even begin. when someone asked on the skincare thread about eye creams, and then there was some discussion of undereye circles/wrinkles/crepiness, i spent the next x (many) hours wondering/fretting about if i had these wrinkles/crepiness and if i should feel bad about it when honestly i haven't worried about this since i was in high school. years of not-thinking about the condition of my eyes was erased in...three posts about wrinkles?
i'm just saying that these messages that YOUR FACE ISN'T RIGHT are so pervasive that years of deliberate positive thinking can wilt just like that. i feel better now, less wilted, but honestly, i never ever need to worry about whether or not i have a wrinkle because guess whati'm gonna have a wrinkle
sorry about this -- i feel better now that it's out of my system!

Get it all out! Those messages are noxious.

I think wrinkles look really cool! I wish I could feel the same about my cellulite. But I'm working on it. Surprisingly, being in a bathing suit/wetsuit/nothing at all much of the time has made me more comfortable with my body, not less, which is an unexpected result.
― quincie, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 21:26 (thirteen years ago)
that makes total sense to me! beach life sloughs all that self-consciousness away after a while, I reckon. once the beach settles into your skin, it just doesn't matter as much. and it also makes you by default more confident because you don't give a fuck. imo.
fuck I miss the beach hardcore

If wrinkles looked that cool, ppl wouldn't try to avoid them so much, but the thing is that eventually we all get older...why not start feeling ok about it ASAP?
I don't even really think I'm hella wrinkled or anything, it just kinda took me sideways that I could be so easily derailed into silent fretting about my stupid face. It was shockingly easy to start thinking that way. Awful.
Hi 5 to feeling good about yr unclothed body -- walking around with nothing on is such a great feeling that I want every everyone to feel that it's a right to enjoy it (not just a priv of the "beautiful")
Guess I wasn't done, sorry?

If wrinkles looked that cool, ppl wouldn't try to avoid them so much
We try to avoid them because we live in a capitalist society and for cosmetic companies to make any money, which is the whole point of their existence, they have to convince us that we are deficient in some way. By taking something that will happen to us all and convincing us that it is 1) bad and 2) in any way avoidable, they talk us into handing over our money for a bunch of junk that ultimately ain't going to do shit.
It's kind of genius, really. But yeah, thinking wrinkles don't look cool is just as socialized as thinking fat is ugly or short is less attractive than tall or whatever other rando beauty standards we impose on our personal tastes and call innate and natural.
― carl agatha, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 22:11 (thirteen years ago)
i don't really think about them on other people. i just haven't got that many yet and i'm okay about not having them until the wrinkle fairy decides to pay me a visit.
ya'll live free and happy, wrinkles or no
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 22:16 (thirteen years ago)
I just meant that they don't have to be cool or reviled -- they just are. They happen. No cream or potion or amt of positive reinforcement will make them not happen. I'm in favor of just ignoring them tbh.
― free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 22:17 (thirteen years ago)
otm
Although I readily cop to using an eye cream but that's because my shit is so dry otherwise! I also intentionally refuse to buy eye cream (or any product, actually) that claims to be anti aging because I don't want to give them my money.
― carl agatha, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 22:19 (thirteen years ago)
The only reason I brought it up in the first place was bc I was disappointed in myself by how eeeeeeeasy it is to feel bad abt my face. That's stupid and not why I'm here.
Have been wearing orange eyeshadow lately btw. I like it second best to purple.
― free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 22:22 (thirteen years ago)
i just dug my orange eyeshadow out of my backup box of make up (which I use for stuff I buy and don't like immediately so I put it on the bench and then it goes into the rotation when I rediscover it again or use it for halloween etc)
I love the way orange looks on my eyes! though I will freely admit that I straddle the line leading me straight to the circus pretty heavily.
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 22:25 (thirteen years ago)
That sounds intriguing. I would like to see this on either/both of you. IIRC I had orange eyeshadow in high school and like it a lot, although it's hard to imagine that looking good on me now.

My Prescriptives foundation is suddenly way too light-coloured, clingy, and tacky. Got a sample of Aveda tinted moisturizer in Beechwood, but it's so subtle I don't think it does a thing. Next stop, BB cream.

oh man i've just discovered lipstains and they are some NEXT. LEVEL. SHIT. i can't believe i've been so ignorant for so long! they're everything i always wanted in a lip color!!!!
i got a couple of NYC ones, which are amazing and last for hours, and i also wanted to try the revlon just bitten ones, but their packaging/marketing is confusing - there is the "lipstain + balm" and there is the "lip balm stain", and both are called "just bitten". i got one of the balms, which is just a tinted balm with a little more staying power.
i also picked up some of revlon's nearly-naked foundation, and it seems pretty good so far - the color is a waaaaay better match than i've managed to achieve the last two times i've bought foundation.
― just1n3, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 06:05 (thirteen years ago)
Re Revlon, the lip stain + balm is the far superior product. On one end it's a marker type applicator and on the other is a little plug of lip balm to use on top. Good stuff.
― carl agatha, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 12:09 (thirteen years ago)
^^^ agreed. i hate wearing lipstick and lip gloss is a little too girly for me but I love lip stains

oh a couple of quick primer reviews:
Alamy Smart Shade primer (the one with the purple and green spiral) - Gross and greasy, doesn't seem to work like a primer at all. Reminds me of the old school Oil of Olay that my mom used to wear but without the color.
Revlon Miracle Blur - AWESOME. Not greasy. Feels velvety, as does skin after application. Visible improvement in how skin looks. Would probably just wear this on weekends and skip the foundation altogether.
― educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 13:56 (thirteen years ago)
Meaning it makes skin look good enough without adding foundation to the mix that I would wear only the primer on weekends. Would wear under foundation for work.

For real. I'm still weirdly in love with Benefit's Dr. Feelgood and have been wearing that alone.
I will check out Miracle Blur.
sunny you mentioned CC cream earlier and I keep seeing ads for it. Is this a thing I need to pay attention to? I never got into BB cream, so is CC cream for me or should I wait for the inevitable DD cream?

I had a sample of miracle blur, thought it was a BB or cc cream not primer? Anyway it was magic bc it looked white so I put it all over my face despite being 'medium' then 10 sec later I was bright orange...

XP idk maybe i'm mis-remembering and it wasn't miracle blur. Does it start off like white cream then the colour gets kind of activated when you user it?
