Lace curtains that aren't cheap polyester get expensive really fast so I'm trying to think of ways to use thrifted items, like.

HERE, this is a great example. I would never do this in my own house because lol lace but I'd like to use the idea someday.

You could also hang them higher so they didn't touch the ground. Or buy shorties.

yeah, that's cute!

i'm pretty happy with what we've got now temporarily -- it's mostly sheer white fabric of varying types, sometimes with accent fabrics
pretty boilerplate budget martha stewart, but that's so much better than what i've had for the last decade that i'm enjoying it

plan to try to recreate my dream room soon
there will be a table/work area for grading papers, craft projects, sorting, eating, etc
there will be a lounge area with comfortable place to stretch out like the picture below (though not exactly like that obvs b/c my room isn't that big)
there will be my wonderful closet full of dressup clothes, shoes, and purses
there will be two windows
there will be a small dog (and also a larger dog if he pleases

it's the only room with carpet right now, and it's pretty nice and soft, so i don't really mind it. might get a rug?

right now it's full of boxes but i hope to get it in order ASAP

i also think i want it to be yellow?

i love that room a lot, even though i don't understand wtf is going on with that seating area

Iirc it's for when you're a swinger and there's another group already occupying the conversation pit in the living room.

cmon
it's for people who don't want to be constrained by chairs or beds, seated postures or prone postures -- you can just kinda sprawl out comfortably however you please. that's how i see it/what i'm after at least

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:05 (thirteen years ago)

the formal sitting area is elsewhere -- this is to be the ~leisure zone~

it's like the room that is just all pillows I thought would be a cool idea when I was in high school

mh, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

it's still a cool idea, just not very practical

there's a work corner too!
you guys are making me feel like a giant fruitcake

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

...which is fine because let's not kid ourselves here

you're our kind of fruitcake

mh, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:11 (thirteen years ago)

someone has to live the dream of having a comfortable pillow corner and that person is me
i already have the closet in order and tall people aren't allowed in it so there

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:13 (thirteen years ago)

btw my upstairs, with the exception of the office area, has a futon, a rug, my dad's sweet stereo system from the early 70s, and a giant beanbag type thing (LOVESAC)

so basically it's like a stoner lounge

mh, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

i feel like i've reached a 'certain age' where one of my dreams involves a room w/a floor-to-ceiling wall of books and a window seat.

^^ yes, please

mh, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:16 (thirteen years ago)

that does look dreamy

although I think I would want more back support maybe

huun huurt 2 (Hurting 2), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:16 (thirteen years ago)

I could pretty much live out the rest of my days by that window I think

this is the door to the closet

i'll take another picture of the finished thing as soon as i can
it's pretty impressive imo -- i have A LOT OF CLOTHES

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

so do i! and yet i have NO closet in my new bedroom, oh dear.

a ridiculous clusterfuck of totally uncool jokers (elmo argonaut), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:26 (thirteen years ago)

I have made an executive decision that it's high time to get a delicious cozy easy chair to put by the window in the living room for curling up and reading in

now

I have to find this magical chair

it's harder than I thought

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:29 (thirteen years ago)

i keep waiting to move into a dream home to get a magical reading chair. i still have an ike@ p0ang from 2000, a relic of my grey single days.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:32 (thirteen years ago)

oh and bcz of orbit being a genius on the cleaning thread I am going by the hardware store tonight to pick up at least 1 window cling for the bathroom (and maybe one for the dining room)

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

got a used sapien bookcase, not sure i'm crazy about it

the late great, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:41 (thirteen years ago)

it just looks ... kinda messy?

the late great, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:41 (thirteen years ago)

hate those things tbqf, i respect the idea but i don't think they're particularly functional in a way that lends itself to ease or attractiveness.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:43 (thirteen years ago)

every time i see one i want to say, 'you're right...no human being would stack books like this.'

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 6 May 2013 21:44 (thirteen years ago)

i got it for a song off my gf who is trying to get rid of some furniture, and it fits the space but you have to be a real perfectionist to fit books in there the way they do in promo photos

the late great, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:45 (thirteen years ago)

it's like a store where everything fits me!

This is the cutest way to refer to a closet I have ever heard. Now if only everything in my closet fit me.

mh, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

I've spent the past two months considering curtains for our green room. Think I've decided but it's like £300+ to have them made because the windows are so huge >:(

kinder, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:53 (thirteen years ago)

I had to finally admit that I couldn't go for these despite my heart's yearning: http://www.villanova.co.uk/tea-at-the-ritz.html#

kinder, Monday, 6 May 2013 21:55 (thirteen years ago)

I do really like the black strap hinges on Lechera's door, I want to say. Adds to the creepy old house secret passage vibe.

Wouldn't it be cool if BEHIND THE CLOTHES was another door?!??

btw the genius idea of building closets in bedrooms is the #1 area where the US kicks the UK's ass. That and good pizza delivery.
After leaving the luxury of 2 closets in my one-bed flat in the US, I was so happy to move into my new place which at least seemed to have built-in wardrobes in all the rooms... until I tried to hang something up and none of them were even deep enough to hold a coathanger that way round. Honestly.

Tbh it doesn't all 100% fit me either but most of it is ok

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Monday, 6 May 2013 22:08 (thirteen years ago)

I've had those shallow closets in a late-1800s Brooklyn rowhouse. I bought a steel garment rack for my clothes and filled the shallow closet with these:

we have a loaded sapien, seems totally stable and isn't really a pain to arrange by size w/in reason. nice space saving way to keep a lot of books imo
