I emailed my hair dresser regretfully informing her my student loans cannot go to fancy hair dye and I must return to the boxed dye world. Harder than breaking up with some past boyfriends! But really, I can get orange with boxed dye, it was my bright red years when I really needed her touch.

That bend-a-bun thing would work with my hair (which is similar to length/wavy texture of the model), but I already have a bumpit and a different sort of chignon/bun-type implement that I never use.

It would be nice to do something with my hair other than just a messy topnot using just a pony tail band, but I am lazy (and also in and out of the pool/ocean all day so what would be the point, really).

FFM -- i had that exact same experience wrt dyeing red & school! in fact, i remember mentioning it before (maybe on itt?) -- you will live, it's not that big of a deal. when your life settles, you will have the wonderful luxury of going back and it will be a triumph.

me too -- there was a point where i couldn't even handle the upkeep of dyeing it at all, and i took a several year break with natural color. it was a dull couple of years!

I was thinking about that too but I don't think I could handle my brown hair! The red shades have become such an integral part of my appearance imo.

i went back to box-dye about 6 months ago...i miss getting it dyed in the salon because it honestly looked 10 times better (and I make such a goddamn mess whenever I do it)...but it'll do for now

For ten seconds, while tipsy, I contemplated ombre. Then I watched some Bravo and realized that it would be nagl for me.

I like it in unusual colors but a lot of the time it just looks like lazy highlights or something. must be a lot of bad ombre in my area, lol

Me? I am natural brunette, but dyeing on and off since I was 16 or so! I get so sick of looking at my head/face, something has to change or I get kinda fussy.

I went back to my natural color during law school because I could only afford hair cuts every five to six months and I had no time to dye it myself. Then I tried dying it myself when things calmed down only to discover that box dye does not touch my gray hair*. So it's either salon job or au naturel for me.

I was actually thinking about not dying it for awhile to see what my natural color is these days.

*apparently, my hair is very stubborn about taking dye. The color that the stylist dies it is nearly black and it comes out as darkish brown on my head.

I'm doing the not-dying thing now - surprisingly happy with the natural color. I had no idea what it would actually be, since I'd been dying it myself for years and years. There's a lot of gray, but it's fairly sparkly vs. dull so that's okay. Between that and this lovely short cut, I'm in a hair happy place right now.

No pics from this one - maybe the one after if it's more successful! Apart from being too short and achieving the feared 'pinhead' effect, something odd has happened on one side. I have a small patch on my left temple where hair doesn't grow properly, and it's been cut short enough now that you can see it - so it goes up and then down again on that side in ways it shouldn't. I'll go back in a month or so and see if there's enough growth to allow her to adjust it.

I got a bunch of stuff to make some beach hair spray up with - epsom salts, jojoba oil, aloe gel. I already had sea salt and some different essential oils. Weekend project.

Homemade beach hair salt spray A++ will make again. I used clove essential oil for scent. Next time I'll use gin!

Okay, so while this stuff definitely gave my fine thin hair texture and lift, it also made my scalp itch by the end of the day and I had a fine dusting of salts all over me. Next time I'm halving the salts and upping the oils.

Have any fine + thin haired people here tried Sugar Dust? I bought it on a whim and it's pretty amazing so far. Plus, smells delightful.

I haven't tried anything lately aside from putting hair up and washing it occasionally. I am way overdue for a hair renewal appt -- need cut/color/total head boost asap.

In fact it's at the top of my end-of-AY to-do list, which also includes: go to doctor, make annual trip to ikea, visit that crazy woman at the korean spa, aaaand get hair did

as my hair gets longer and longer i need to try different things to help keep my hair full & wavy & defined & bouncy, i'm just about at the point where it starts to collapse under its own weight and i hate that. i need to get a maintenance cut soon but i'm considering giving dry shampoo a try, will that help?
