those ll beans w the monograms... classic
― 乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:18 (thirteen years ago)
i'm am down with everything about that except the 'tapestry' part xp
― ampersand cooper black (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:19 (thirteen years ago)
The tapestry is almost conceptual, it's just drab-green and silver leaves, over and over. I think. It's in storage in some high place because I can't throw it away: it's in perfect cond except for the ripped strap, it will NEVER EVER wear out, and my mother gave it to me.

monogrammed ll beans were absolutely de rigeur at prep school, sometimes slung hobo-style from the end of a lacrosse or field hockey stick, sometimes embellished with flowers & big loopy handwriting in white-out pen
― ampersand cooper black (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:24 (thirteen years ago)
i never had an ll bean pack, tho
― ampersand cooper black (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

protip llbean backpacks are guaranteed for life, ive heard talk of people picking up ragged ones used and bringing them to bean and they give them a new one
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:06 (thirteen years ago)
I had a Muji backpack that was awesome and was thinking about getting a Herschel one for travel and stuff because they're functional but simple and plain and not ugly.
― Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:07 (thirteen years ago)
muji backpacks are nice but can feel a bit cheap depending on how low u go
― 乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:07 (thirteen years ago)
wearing yr backpack on the bus/train is savage imo, as is not taking it off before boarding an airplane

Is there something that sorta resembles them but better quality that you know of? They just did a polka dot one for Madewell and it's SO CUTE. I want it.
― Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:14 (thirteen years ago)
But, yeah, they're kinda expensive for what they are, I think.
enbb:
http://topodesigns.com/collection/category/bags/ imo
made in the USA in a LEED certified factory
no polka dots yet tho, sry

i didnt read any of the posts in this thread but i like backpacks a lot, because you can put stuff in them and carry them around while keeping your hands free
they are not that aesthetically pleasing though i guess thats the downside... but what upside!
― Reggie (Lamp), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:17 (thirteen years ago)
x-post - I'm into the daypack but they need more colors or dots or something. They're all very manly. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I think they should branch out a little or something.

herschels remind me of outdoor products backpacks which are super big among teens in hk http://i.imgur.com/Ja5bzfY.jpg

also one time i was at a karaoke night for a friend's birthday and this kinda overweight nerdy kid sang something really jammy for karaoke while wearing his black canvas backpack and it made me really happy because he looked like such a dork and he seemed like he just dngaf and then later that night i was getting out of a cab to go to a party and i saw that same kid still wearing his backpack and invited him up to the party and told him that i liked his backpack and then apologized for calling him 'backpack' but then the girls who's place it was was really mad at me cuz it turned out this kid looked like he was like 15 and it was supposed to be a cool drug party or w/e and he was obv really uncomfortable w/the whole scene so i had to get him to leave after his first drink but he didnt seem to mind that much
anyway the moral of the story is that backpacks are so cool that they can get you invited to parties but also asked to leave parties

MAKR stuff is pretty good & well made & nicely designed but also just... kinda bland, imo? like why not use a color that's not a tasteful neutral, at all, ever

this is the backpack i have. i carry it around in a similar fashion except instead of being loosely held by the strap its usually slung across my back with both straps over my shoulders
i mostly only use that one in the summers though cuz i use my bike a lot more since its been so cold wet i carry my stuff around in my messenger bag
― Reggie (Lamp), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:30 (thirteen years ago)
beige and grey are good colours for backpacks cause they go w everything
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:31 (thirteen years ago)

a friend of mine recently got this backpack, which i admired:
http://jonathanandolivia.com/images/GREG-BACKPACK-RED-4303P.jpg
i am kinda surprised by how many thoughts i have about backpacks, which always seemed like the overnight bag's younger, less glamorous brother but maybe backpacks are kinda stylish. its just that its a lot harder to be cool when you're wearing one i guess unlike that suede overnight bag you casually tossed into the backseat of your convertible or w/e
― Reggie (Lamp), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:37 (thirteen years ago)
Oooh red

I have a very large backpacking pack (65L?), a more modest climbing pack (35L), a commuter pack (mission workshop, p low key), an old general purpose backpack that I never use anymore, a ski pack, and rad lil daypack that is the Best Backpack
I want more backpacks
