Oooo concealer that looks interesting. Please report back!
fyi - I am still really into that stick foundation I talked about. Napoleon something or other. It evens out my face really nicely and I don't feel like I'm wearing foundation. Kind of magical, really.

Ha, I'm so bossy today! ENBB TELL ME ABOUT YOUR MAKEUP ON THIS BOARD.
hahaha
My make-up lately is boring. I think it's stress but my skin is driving me nuts and the worst it's ever been in my life. Granted I've always had pretty good skin so it's not really THAT bad but I'm breaking out here and there like a freaking teenager and it's driving me crazy.

I have no makeup news to report other than I tried Clinique stay matte powder (in 'stay buff', ha) and it seems v good for, well, staying matte. Also I got a bit fed up with They're Real! mascara feeling plasticky so I went back to Chanel Inimitable Intense which felt amazing for about a week then went flakey and fibery so They're Real is back to being my #1. I think it just doesn't last as long as I thought.
xp yeah my skin went mad during my time of mega-stress last year. I am so bummed I can't get the cheap lotion stuff here that I got in the US that sorted out my chin :(
― kinder, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 18:48 (thirteen years ago)
my skin goes totally apeshit during times of stress as well.it'll pass!
― and that sounds like a gong-concert (La Lechera), Wednesday, 10 April 2013 18:50 (thirteen years ago)
Much as I am v happy with the Revlon Colorstay, I still just can't wear foundation every day. It still feels very mask-like.
I know I probably should really investigate this properly and find a lighter kinder foundation, because I do feel weird giving everyone my oh-hai-I'm-pink-no-makeup face at work, but while I'm trying to heal this rosacea it just feels like it's worth it to leave my skin alone in that regard as much as I can.
No-one really notices but me, but the Cerave/Cetaphil is really working well I think. But it's going to take a long time. I've heard up to a year before results from the barrier restoring doodads really are noticeable.
I also read from a medical journal paper on rosacea and skin cleansers that waiting half an hour after washing your face before applying moisturizer can help reduce redness too. So I'm trying that as well. I dunno, I feel like it's all helping.

I'm using Bobbi Brown tinted eye brightener, and it seems to not sink into my lines as much as the little BB pots of thicker concealer used to. Although it also probably does less for me. I can't tell, honestly.

Have you thought about false eyelashes?
― tokyo rosemary, Friday, 12 April 2013 02:00 (thirteen years ago)
OH MY GOD there's a woman who lives down the street from me who does such a great job with false eyelashes, she uses hair extension glue, which is still removable but longer lasting than the non-waterproof stuff they normally sell for falsies. I mean they're clearly false but then so are almost all kinds of makeup, and she can go swimming in them and sleep in them and they look gorgeous. I am so tempted to enlist her help.

sorry for the porn-y pic, I couldn't find a proper full face example
I admire the technical skill involved! But not personally something I wear.
Vg,, I'm trying out a eucerin daily moisturizer that is supposed to reduce redness (I have a lot in my cheeks), will let you know if it does any good.
Man, my under eye area is a total disaster and I'm feeling pretty lucky I wear glasses - so thin skinned, crepey and DARK. But I have finally figured out how to apply foundation without looking like a clown and I'm pretty stoked -only took t till the age of 33!

Yes, or as I uncharitably thought, "Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do it."

yeah I mean I can totally see it as a runway look but daywear? i dunno. they'd have to be pretty subtle colors to not look like you just blew a clown.

FYI Christine: Revlon have just released their Pacific Coast collection. I know its not liquid but applied correctly (short strokes) it might have the same effect:

i hope she's ok :/ but she has disappeared for long periods of time before.
tza sent me a shockingly bright coral blush a couple years ago, which i thought was an eyeshadow for a long time, so clearly i wasn't going to wear it. now that coral is trendy, i found it amongst my tiny pile of makeup and tried it - the color of the pan is so deceptive! it's actually a very very pretty coral that looks great and not horrendously neon at all.
― just1n3, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 17:03 (thirteen years ago)
i will confess that I have no idea how to wear blush and that I have never worn it
i think part of it is being naturally pink-faced I feel like makeup looks best when I look pale, adding red flush to my cheeks is just like, mentally, why would you want to do that when I look that way ALL the time

I have not put on makeup for maybe four weeks now. I kinda miss it! But it just doesn't seem to make sense when I am in and out of the water multiple times a day, plus it is HOT HOT HOT and putting on makeup feels about as sensible as putting on a sweater.
Maybe I will invent a date night when S and I go to the one restaurant and I will put on makeup for that.

I was thinking this morning that I really want to go swimming. I mean, I swim at the gym but I am thinking more like "playing in the water and floating around."

I went to an aqua aerobics class and the best thing about it was being given a water belt and splashing around and floating at the end of the class.

Ya'll come on down anytime and float in the pool and/or ocean. The Sea of Cortez is really nice because it is extremely calm (not so hot if you like to surf, I guess) so snorkeling and general lolling around in the water is much easier than dealing with nonstop waves.

ok, time for what I think might be a dumb question.
can someone tell me about contouring/highlighting, with regard to foundation? do any of you/all of you do this? i've been reading and watching videos and I'm just confused as to whether this is something you do for fashion shoots and/or drag shows, or if this is lady-foundation 101 and I should be getting on board.
for years I've just slapped on foundation. as mentioned up thread I've never even worn blush. I'm slowly rethinking all of that and coming to a realization that what I know about makeup is basically zero.
i need opinions plz :)

I wear foundation and blush, but only experimented with contouring a bit before pronouncing it a waste of time.. However it does look nice! My old makeup coworkers contoured a lot.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 04:10 (thirteen years ago)
from all the youtube vids i have watched, contouring with foundation seems kinda n/l - i can barely manage one kind of foundation, let alone trying to coordinate two different shades. iirc kandee whatshername has a vid about it - altho i think her emphasis is less on contouring exactly and more about... dimension? like, avoiding getting a flat face? but speaking of: i watched a bunch of really great vids on lisa eldridge's website about foundation - lots of useful info about how to pick the right shade and how to test it etc etc.
also: i picked up some ridiculously cheap nicka k mascara at the wig store and damn it's really good!
― just1n3, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 04:42 (thirteen years ago)
i was wondering about contouring with bronzing powder, over foundation? or is the logic generally powders with powders, creams with creams etc
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 04:54 (thirteen years ago)
ime contouring with a matte bronzer (or blush or even dark eye shadow) is the way to go (NOT anything with any kind of shimmer in it).
