any tips??

乒乓, Sunday, 24 March 2013 20:15 (thirteen years ago)

Do it when they're dry or else you'll cut them too short.

carl agatha, Sunday, 24 March 2013 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

If you don't want them to be completely straight across, you can take little snips with the scissors pointing upward into the bang-line. Teeny snips.

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Sunday, 24 March 2013 20:40 (thirteen years ago)

if yr doing straight bangs: comb yr bangs facing the comb outwards, use it to sort of create a line where you want to cut & cut below that. that's what I did when I used to cut my bangs

i miss having bangs

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 24 March 2013 20:45 (thirteen years ago)

I just cut mine into proper bangs after about a year of half-assing it with a longer front bit I would push to either side. looks better making a proper go of it.

Looking good. Should probably put some Mercurochrome on those scratches, though.

carl agatha, Monday, 25 March 2013 16:51 (thirteen years ago)

Huh. Mercurochrome is no longer sold in the US due to its mercury content. I think I'll blame my poor performance in high school and undergrad on spending my childhood being dipped in the stuff every time I sustained an injury. Can't wait to call my mom and tell her that was all her fault.

carl agatha, Monday, 25 March 2013 16:56 (thirteen years ago)

Oh whoops. My mom would use EXTRA mercurochrome to paint smiley faces over our injuries, we're probably all going to die from mercury poisoning.

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Monday, 25 March 2013 16:59 (thirteen years ago)

mine too! smiley knees were the best!

rip all of us

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 25 March 2013 17:06 (thirteen years ago)

i'd just cover it in a bandaid until it got infected and thats why i have a mega huge cheloid on my left knee

乒乓, Monday, 25 March 2013 17:06 (thirteen years ago)

me too! it's from when i tripped in the stick your head in the quaker oats man's face standee thingie and then relentlessly picked the scab. not mega huge, but shaped like a triangle. my mom never put that orange stuff on me -- is that what mercurochrome is? or is that iodine? my dad has a gross story about iodine and barnacles and hands.

and that sounds like a gong-concert (La Lechera), Monday, 25 March 2013 17:22 (thirteen years ago)

mercurochrome was bright blood red

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 25 March 2013 17:27 (thirteen years ago)

i don't think i've ever seen it! and you guys had smiley faces on your knees?! i think we used bactine?

sorry this is so gross
back to hair

and that sounds like a gong-concert (La Lechera), Monday, 25 March 2013 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

There was Mercurochrome, which did not sting and was bright red, and Merthiolate, which stung like a motherfucker and was more orange-y (and which my mother preferred).

I remember begging my mom for Bacitracin bc it was supposed to not sting and she was like, "Doesn't sting, doesn't work. Now bite down on this stick and let me see that scraped knee..."

carl agatha, Monday, 25 March 2013 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

I keep dreaming I've grown my hair out again. Admit to slight disappointment when I wake up and it's still short.

ljubljana, Sunday, 7 April 2013 20:29 (thirteen years ago)

Oh no! No disappointment! Are you not liking your hair?

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Sunday, 7 April 2013 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

It's not lying right. Not ruffle-able in the way I wanted, but not sure what instructions will produce correct ruffleability. And I guess I feel more exposed with short hair, but perhaps I should just get used to that. Upside: earrings.

ljubljana, Sunday, 7 April 2013 20:46 (thirteen years ago)

The 3 year hair-growing experiment has ended. I went from this: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8523/8649610917_dc797a326e.jpg

wow! yay!

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 15 April 2013 01:17 (thirteen years ago)

I'm super happy with it and went and bought a shitload of product right after.

Jaq, Monday, 15 April 2013 01:27 (thirteen years ago)

I bet that feels amazing!

Hey so I would like to purchase a hair dryer. Does anybody have any suggestions? I get the urge to blow dry my hair maybe twice a year so I don't want to spend more than $50. Also I think I would like a diffuser. My hair is wavy and on the dry side, if that matters? Anyway, time to grow up and own a blow dryer!

carl agatha, Monday, 15 April 2013 01:48 (thirteen years ago)

twice a year???? im in total envy. i have a T3 which expensive but only because my hair is gross, super curly-frizzy and needs to be beaten into submission with heated tools daily.

(from a bottle you dicks) (sunny successor), Monday, 15 April 2013 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

what i can probably share is that hairdryers on the more expensive side tend to have a steadier temperature whereas the cheap ones fluctuate temperature, sometimes to the point of burning the hair. Read some amazon reviews of dryers in your price range because when i was looking for mine i found there are a gang of dudes out there who have nothing better to do than monitor their wives dryer temps then write on amazon about their important research. thank god for those fools, i guess?

(from a bottle you dicks) (sunny successor), Monday, 15 April 2013 21:18 (thirteen years ago)

It might look better if I dried it more often, but for most of my life I've gotten away with letting it air dry.

I was looking on Amazon and I saw some of those reviews! That's fucking weird and a little creepy.

Is all that ceramic/ion/tourmaline stuff all bullshit or do they actually do something?

carl agatha, Monday, 15 April 2013 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

Honestly I use a cheap dryer from Target and I haven't regretted it once, but I don't do hardcore straightening/don't have any curl in my hair, if that really makes any difference to how well a blow-dryer works for you.

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Monday, 15 April 2013 21:31 (thirteen years ago)

My normal self has serious trouble believing in any of that ionizing/whatever stuff ftr.

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Monday, 15 April 2013 21:32 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i dont buy that shite for a second
