ljub, you fool, you are radiant and the amount of gum in your smile is perfect and lovable!! How is it possible to be smoldering-hot and also a cute little chipmunk with that grin? But you are.

Wow, thanks! I seriously feel like a baggy crone at the moment so maybe I can recapture the chipmunk of yesteryear with a shorter do! Somewhere or other up on this thing rrrobyn said something about *feeling* pretty - that's what I need right now. Also, carl otm re face shape being the key thing.

For the first time, since I was a kid, I have actual BANGS. Not long side swept faux bangs, but actual blunt cut bangs.
― just1n3, Friday, 7 December 2012 23:18 (thirteen years ago)
It feels very weird and I'm not sure its really working for my face
― just1n3, Friday, 7 December 2012 23:19 (thirteen years ago)
bit of backcombing and some mousse will fix it right up

:D
maybe you just need a little time to get used to it. it's a big change, can take a while to adjust to how you look.

I have had half-arsed bangs for ages now and I keep improving them by making them nearer and nearer to actual bangs so maybe I should just go the whole hog....
― kinder, Saturday, 8 December 2012 01:09 (thirteen years ago)
Alright let's do this. I already showed the Sienna pics. Waiting for my turn.
― ljubljana, Saturday, 8 December 2012 18:30 (thirteen years ago)
Ooh you have a coveted Saturday slot, does that mean you got a Glory Hole doughnut? Heh.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 8 December 2012 18:54 (thirteen years ago)
I was offered one! I'm trying to go paleo-ish but I just ate a spanokopita so erm...

ljub i wanna see pics when ur done!
of the cut, not the donut
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 8 December 2012 19:29 (thirteen years ago)
clingfilm is on for the colour, not chopped yet
― ljubljana, Saturday, 8 December 2012 19:34 (thirteen years ago)
That's fair, you're a better person than me. I always have Friday appointments I've never tried one of these legendary Gloryhole donuts. Alas!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 8 December 2012 19:39 (thirteen years ago)
Also, if I hadn't mentioned it yet, she's happy to do free bang touchups in between cuts. I remember her being disgusted that the fact that my previous hairdresser wouldn't!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 8 December 2012 19:41 (thirteen years ago)
paleo not really working this time (because I am not doing it properly!) so possibly should have had one!
it's done! I don't like it much! but I may like it in the future when I get used to it! Miranda was amazing though, such a nice atmosphere and she is really, really good so the dislike is all just me getting used to a new style and needing time to adjust it...
pic to follow...

Side bits need to grow out more and get more wispy, or something! Also, she blowdried the back massive - I have just hand-squashed it.
i find that it takes a couple of days to get used to a shorter cut - not sure whether that's me getting used to it or the so-called "your hair will settle into it" thing - bit of both?xpcuteness!! :D
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 8 December 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)
Hahaha I always squash it down too, she loves giving volume! I think it is really cute & will grow out in a lovely way, you probably do just need to get used to it! I'm glad you liked her, I agree her place has such a nice, welcoming vibe.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 8 December 2012 21:25 (thirteen years ago)
You're frowning so hard I'm surprised you can even see.
― grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Saturday, 8 December 2012 21:45 (thirteen years ago)
I feel like it needs more volume! My impulse is to give you either more rounded volume or else less overall length and go choppier. (I am always trying to make my hair choppy but it has too much natural bounce and turns into a bubble head if not rigidly controlled.)
― grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Saturday, 8 December 2012 21:46 (thirteen years ago)
ljub u crazy - it looks great!
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 8 December 2012 21:50 (thirteen years ago)
Go shorter next time. I want to cut all your hair off.
― grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Saturday, 8 December 2012 21:55 (thirteen years ago)
haha awi like the front kind of long like that though - the back could be super short!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 8 December 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)
whoa, also the colour is richer than I'd like now I'm in more light!
I'll see how this one grows and then I'll either go with this but with longer wispier front bits, or go really short and choppy. A la the second 'old' pic above, yes, in orbit?

Your face is so gamine, I want to set it off with a big mess. :)
― grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Saturday, 8 December 2012 23:46 (thirteen years ago)
I think your mouth especially is generous and inviting when you smile with it closed but your grin is impish and real, makes me want to downplay the sensuality and highlight the imp.
― grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Saturday, 8 December 2012 23:49 (thirteen years ago)
I like that! OK, into the clippings folder for future consideration, thanks io. Thanks everyone for bearing with my short hair mid-life crisis.
― ljubljana, Sunday, 9 December 2012 00:04 (thirteen years ago)
I think laurel is right - the long bits at the front are hiding too much of your face; choppier and more volume, defs.
― just1n3, Sunday, 9 December 2012 00:07 (thirteen years ago)
yeah that needs to be resolved either with longer bangs, which can be swept more to one side so less face-covering, or shorter ones skimming my eyebrows. The stylist did warn me that it would be a 'work in progress' towards the Siena look because the edges of the bangs aren't long enough at the moment. So I'll post another pic in 8 weeks for next step advice!
Actually she said 'fringe', not bangs, which made me feel especially at home.
― ljubljana, Sunday, 9 December 2012 00:19 (thirteen years ago)
Oh it's very cute! I do agree with Laurel's comments though for next time. I really do like it a lot though. You wear short hair well, I think.
Getting mine cut and colored tomorrow afternoon. Bringing following two pics but think I need to ask her to take out some more bulk in the back this time. I have so much hair that it just gets too big too fast otherwise.

i've been seeing that michelle williams pic a lot online and i'm totally in love with it
― just1n3, Sunday, 9 December 2012 01:34 (thirteen years ago)
I took that MW cut as one of my examples but my stylist pointed out that my hair wouldn't do that so I should look elsewhere. She's smart.
― grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Sunday, 9 December 2012 01:41 (thirteen years ago)
She was right, I'm not that elfin and that style would give me bubble head.
Could you achieve non-bubbly choppiness via minimal layers but a ton of product?
― ljubljana, Sunday, 9 December 2012 01:43 (thirteen years ago)
MW's hair is really fine and her volume is all from product and blow-out. My hair is bouncier than that. Anyway, I love my hair now, wouldn't go for that longer style again (or not too soon).
― grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Sunday, 9 December 2012 01:44 (thirteen years ago)
i went back to the same salon as last time, but instead of going with the same stylist (a "senior stylist") i went with the much younger and cheaper "regular" stylist. she was far more interested in actually doing something a bit different, and spent a decent amount of time talking to me about what i wanted, first.
my hair is still long and boring but she thinned it out HEAPS and lightened the load in the crown a lot (which always looks flat, no matter how i blow dry or back comb it).
i don't think she shaped my bangs right, though: she blunt cut them (and they are REALLY REALLY short), which doesn't really help with the fact that they tend to split apart. but they are much heavier than previously, which i like. i also wanted more face framing layers, which she didn't do, and now the blunt fringe looks weird with my hair tied back.
― just1n3, Sunday, 9 December 2012 02:01 (thirteen years ago)
At least the length-of-bangs problem will fix itself pretty fast. I hate it though when you specifically ask for something, and feel good for remembering to ask (I often forget what I was going to mention), and then your request is ignored.
― ljubljana, Sunday, 9 December 2012 14:26 (thirteen years ago)
Any product recs for defining messy short hair? Can't remember what I used to use.
― ljubljana, Sunday, 9 December 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)
Spray wax! Or salt water stuff.
― grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Sunday, 9 December 2012 15:07 (thirteen years ago)
I was a big fan of Aveda's "grooming wax" but the men's version. A little bit goes a long way, and if your hair is fine (like yours and mine) it adds a little bulk that makes putting it into place a little easier.
― passion it person (La Lechera), Sunday, 9 December 2012 15:14 (thirteen years ago)
Boyo uses this: http://premium.dailygrooming.co.uk/products/Davines-Wizards-No-5-Matt-Pliable-Stucco-100ml.htmlYou hardly need any and it works really well on his hair. I nick it sometimes but my hair is fairly straight and chin-length so it doesn't do much
― kinder, Sunday, 9 December 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)
Spray....wax! New concepts. 'Creates a bendable texture', says Paul Mitchell. Nice. Will look at the other two recs as well, thanks.
― ljubljana, Sunday, 9 December 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)
Haha I know. Good luck and have fun.

Any product recs for defining messy short hair?
Bumble & Bumble sumo tech (the one in the black jar)
It's supposed to smell like apples, I believe? I find the scent to be pretty gross but it doesn't stick around and you don't have to use very much, mine is still half full and I've been using it for about two years.
― seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Sunday, 9 December 2012 18:28 (thirteen years ago)
