Funny! Cholas taught my best friend and I how to do this in the 9th grade.

Was given a free sample of organic deodorant on the weekend called 'pit putty' (lol) by Bumble and Bee. Anyone heard of it?Ingredients: Organic arrowroot powder, organic coconut oil, aluminum-free baking soda, organic jasmine extract, organic peppermint essential oil
I tried it out today, so far so good. I think it would be powdery/leave white marks if you wore it with short sleeves, but the baking soda/arrowroot combo is nice and drying. It goes on weird because of so much baking soda in it, it's a bit, chalky kind of, you have to rub it in a bit. But straight out of the shower it goes on okay.
I've had trouble with Tom's and that umlaut Jason brand, they always make me really stinky towards the end of the day. So we'll see how this one goes. I would like to use straight organic if I can...but I always end up resorting to chemicals because I'm just so goddamn sweaty :/

btw not a promo at all - my sister in law has MS and is on a hardcore gluten-free, vegan everything only-eats-like-4-things a day, and is experimenting with cosmetics and deodorants to go all natural. She was given the deodorants by a friend of a friend, and had extras laying around. And she knows about my neverending odyssey to find the perfect deodorant.
Which... I mean these things cost $10 so YES I WILL TAKE ONE

I would like to try that. My problem is deodorants usually leave me feeling stinkier than if I never used one. I used hydrosols and found they worked great. Really good, all natural, organic ones can get pricey and they run out fast. I have also used rosewater and lavender water applied with a cotton ball.
― *tera, Thursday, 18 October 2012 08:51 (thirteen years ago)
I'm a week into using it and it works *perfectly*
I'm seriously surprised, also pleased. It goes on kinda weird. Like it sort of clumps a bit and you have to rub it in. Seems to be better application if your armpits are slightly damp than completely dry. No overpowering smell at all -- and I'm totally dry AND not stinky at all by the end of the day, no reapplication or extra products.

hmm sounds like something i should try

I like my Dove.

lol
Natural deodorant is just something I've never had any desire to try and I say that as someone who avoids parabens and shit and has cloth pads for Christ's sake. It's one area I'm not willing to compromise on.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 18 October 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)
everyone's gotta draw her own linefor instance, rosewater dabbed gently in my dainty armpit with a cotton ball is not going to do the job for me, but i'm ok with a heavier lifting natural deodorant.

I've always been chemical deodorant girl because it was the only thing that ever seemed to *work*. Everything else just left me really stinky by lunchtime.
I mean, I'm not saying this like a person who says 'omg carob is great it tastes just like real chocolate'.
I've been using Secret Clinical Strength, ffs. that's how much I didn't care about going senile from aluminum. And this stuff, for me, is AS effective, if not more so. Hand to god.
It's not for everyone and tbh I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but right now I'm a total believer.
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 18 October 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)
I am intrigued, because I too will throw any chemical at my body to make it smell nice (look at my job! heh.) I'm a Mitchum girl. Perhaps I should give this stuff a try.

I think the only strike I would put against it right now, and it's not really a strike, is just that it is kind of weird to apply. It sort of balls up, and you need to do it in front of a mirror to rub it in. But I've only had to use maybe 1 or 2 swipes to stay dry all day which is still p good. I mean, it costs $10 so it seems like it might at least last for a good long while.
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 18 October 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)
that works for me! I think I get the mitchum for about $5 but I always drop it and break it and never get more than 1/2 of the uses I should be so it works out to about $10 for me too, haha. and I do get those ball things sometime.
btw you should write a longer post for the blog! there should be a twitter account that tweets links to the reviews and an @ at the brand that makes it, too. I know our accounts RT many mentions/reviews to give them kudos/brag a little and a side effect is a bit of traffic to the blog too, hopefully :)that may not make a ton of sense, FFM has the gang over

SNAP. You read my mind. I was just thinking that maybe I *should* write a review. :D
Plus homosexual ii's excellent Estee Lauder Double Wear review kind of inspired me to start thinking more about things that I could review. I had been kind of blanking for a while.

YAY!
Rob - this is the url: http://www.ifeelprettynot.blogspot.com/
It's still totally a work in progress but I like how it's turning out so far!
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 18 October 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)
yeah I was thinking set up an @IFeelPrettyNot or something account.. then when a post is published, tweet a link to it from the twitter account (because a lot of people don't go back to domains to check for updates anymore! I rely on RSS/tweets) and if the brand being reviewed has a twitter account, use their handle in it too so that they (might) find it. Some brands will retween yours and then anyone following @EsteeLauder (for instance) could possibly be driven to become a new reader!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 18 October 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)
retween.. guh. What a concept. Retweet!
thanks for link! blog is hilarious and great :)i haven't bought make-up in a while and am still using mineral powder but have been having thoughts of getting "a more elegant" foundation, lol srsly that word... from mandee's (amazing, well written) review, the estee lauder double wear sounds like it might be too heavy for my needs though. hm. maybe will get some samples and report back. ah, now i'm reminiscing about Prescriptives, who made my once-holy-grail foundation. sigh!
i need to buy a new tube of mascara, so a trip to sephora is in my near future anyway.

Rrobyn give B0urjois H3althy Mix serum a shot - it's about $20 at pharmaprix. I love it so much!

thinking maybe I'll throw up a plain old cetaphil soap review bcz the WDYLL I posted yesterday was me with zero makeup. It's made a huge change!
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 18 October 2012 22:07 (thirteen years ago)
yes! it is the only face cleaner i use and have been using it since 1999, when my skin started going crazy with acne-rosacea (was using cetaphil cleanser, bah!), and the soap alone helped calm things so much! i've tried other cleansers since there, here and there, but always go back to cetaphil bar soap.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 18 October 2012 22:20 (thirteen years ago)
I'm shocked at how much of an improvement it's made. And it's helped me figure out that certain foods trigger reactions too, since my face is now not always red all the time.
so glad you mentioned it, rrobyn. this thread's made a lot of difference to my wellbeing lately! :D
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 18 October 2012 22:22 (thirteen years ago)
i don't think i can do the bourjois because it is full of dimethicone and has denatured alcohol in it and a few other things that my skin will be unhappy about... i could probably use it once in a while but not for a full day/night. i know most foundations have those things in them these days though, which is why i went the mineral powder route, but sometimes the powder is too, yknow, powdery if i'm going for a more made-up look.xp
yaay :)
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 18 October 2012 22:28 (thirteen years ago)
Ahh, gotcha R. :) it feels like silk and has lovely but blendable coverage, I've never tried the Estée Lauder stuff but it feels like that review described it! Heh. But my skin is strong like steel, thankfully.
