Crüt what do you normally wear? What were you wearing the last time you felt good in your clothes?

You guys would be appalled at this thing I bought, but I anticipate being able to wear it in public at least once.

My problem, if it is indeed a problem, is that calm sedate clothing (like the cute girl VP posted) just doesn't move me in any major way. It looks like...clothes, the kind you wear functionally. I can't seem to stop wanting to dress up (UP) even though I might be aging out of the demographic that can get away with it. But I'm afraid life won't be very fun if I have to look dignified all the time.

I do look dignified most of the time, like at work, etc.

What were you wearing the last time you felt good in your clothes?

pretty much the same sorts of things I wear now except I was 140 pounds instead of 180. (obv I don't fit into most of my old clothes, but my wardrobe is still almost entirely t-shirts and jeans)

I just want to look ~dashing~ for once.

gesange der yuengling (crüt), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:03 (thirteen years ago)

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:04 (thirteen years ago)

do you live near any nature/state parks/forest preserves?

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:04 (thirteen years ago)

I will probably feel happier about myself if I wear those things, so maybe you're onto something.

gesange der yuengling (crüt), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:04 (thirteen years ago)

also scuba flippers, just to complete the look head to toe

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)

there are some of those things within a couple hours' driving distance. xpost to LL

gesange der yuengling (crüt), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)

if that's the case i have a personal prescription for you
drive to the nature area and walk far into the woods 1x weekly in order to (1) be around nature (2) get some exercise and (3) record things. field recordings and clothes that fit you again can happen at the same time. bring a picnic and a friend and you have a social outing. you can also try out new fashions on these outings to see if you like them. if you don't have field recording equipment yet, you can scout out places so you know where you want to go once the tape starts rolling/digital recorder starts doing whatever it does.

worst possible scenario: you spend time in nature and nothing else happens
that is a winning scenario unless you are attacked by wildlife

I like that advice! I totally did get a Zoom H4n and it is the greatest thing I own.

You have a good face fyi.

aw, thanks! possibly it just appears this way because I only take myspace photos of myself.

gesange der yuengling (crüt), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)

i have a Zoom H2, which is v similar to the H4 and which i also love v much

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:20 (thirteen years ago)

fall is so rich in sounds that it makes me wish there were a machine to record the season's smells. (no fart jokes pls)

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:21 (thirteen years ago)

i feel like i've only worn black, grey and dark blue for the past week+
which is a change in my style but not necessarily a conscious or desired one

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:21 (thirteen years ago)

lol smell machine

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 8 October 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

I like LL's suggestion

and I hope that it results in your personal style being John Muir knee breeches at the very least. And a walking stick!

srsly, it's a cool idea

question: when did dressing become "styling"?

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

(i just got a stupid email from an internet store saying "Styling for Fall doesn't have to be costly..." but i've seen it all over. creating an outfit = styling, wearing = styling, wtf is styling?!)

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, I know. A girl I know has a blog and all the captions are "styled by me!" when the picture in question is of, eg, a girl in a tshirt with a watch on.

Teach me your powers, super stylist!!

Ty for finally getting that rant off my chest!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

I am wearing these clothes! = styling

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:19 (thirteen years ago)

I always hated magazines saying 'how to wear ____'

kinder, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:41 (thirteen years ago)

styling is kind of a gestalt, isn't it? it's not just individual pieces & accessories & grooming, it's how they all work together as a whole.

caek, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

I just bought a cheap purple oversize sweater and I love it. P sure it's kinda tacky but I DON'T CARE

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 20:08 (thirteen years ago)

Some things I was aspirationally eyeing up yesterday:

http://www.norseprojects.com/client/norse/dynamic/images/4620_112a6be939-big.jpg
http://www.folkclothing.com/media/catalog/product/cache/3/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/f/2/f2067s-itsallovershirt-printed-dropshadow_1.jpg

Really need a new jacket more than anything else though. Maybe something like this?

http://oliverspencer.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/220x305/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/o/s/osj168-fisher-jacket-pennington-blue-black.jpg

Still not 100% sure I'm feeling it and I'll have to wait for the sales anyway.

First jumper is caek's jumper's first cousin, I guess.

Goals for 2012~!!

^ Keep the short hair.
^ Maybe have shorter hair!
^ Sew!!!! In spring, probably, because spring clothes are easier.
^ Collect shorter straight skirts instead of below-the-knee pencil ones, because squared-off look is more in keeping w the rest of my look than the whole '50s bombshell shape.
^ Wear shoes that I don't have to fight to keep on my feet: things that lace up or have straps. This is a tragedy because I ADORE tiny little skimmers/flats that are mostly open, but they pop off when I walk and my feet can't handle the extra strain.
^ Buy at least a few expensive bras

― It means why you gotta be a montague? (Laurel), Tuesday, January 3, 2012 3:19 PM (9 months ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Shorter hair accomplished!
Straight skirts in progress!
Oxford shoes, 1 pr acquired (more still TK).
Bras...2 new purchased, neither especially fancy but serviceable. This goal half met, let's say.

Not bad for early October?

I find kiddy-style ear muffs more entertaining than those headband things, if ears need to be warmed. But if anyone can make that thing fabulous, Lechera, it's you.

grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:21 (thirteen years ago)

i vote snow bunny, LL

turban is cuet!

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

Also I wore those headbands made out of fleece to downhill ski in the '90s and just personally I cannot go back there style-wise.

grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

i don't need it, was just wondering if it was hideous or would make me feel like a hollywood starlet on a ski vacay!!

passion it person (La Lechera), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:26 (thirteen years ago)

Those two things are not mutually exclusive!

grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:36 (thirteen years ago)

I wd add some plumy ostrich feathers behind that beaded gew-gaw btw.

grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:36 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i don't think i can pull this one off
maybe if it were a hat

passion it person (La Lechera), Tuesday, 18 December 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)

all you need is:

giant glasses
huge swing coat
bejewelled cigarette holder
poodle on a leash
packard with a chauffeur

boom, you're golden

That turban screams 'wacky knitting lady,' which is a look I *have to* endorse.

Would wear an Elizabeth Taylor style turban... with a kaftan!

tokyo rosemary, Thursday, 20 December 2012 04:15 (thirteen years ago)

seven months pass...

I never really could have predicted that in July of 2013 I would purchase a pair of high waisted turquoise leopard print dress pants at Target, but there they are hanging in my closet. I bought em. I haven't felt this flummoxed by a garment I brought home with me in a long time. I think they might look ok with heels, but under what circumstances would I wear them? Are they ok for work? Going out? Any old time? No clue when I will wear these bizarre dress pants.

Also I now have kitchen curtains that enjoyed a previous life as a caftan.
