scooped a vintage shirt most fun this last weekend -- regular trad short-sleeve sport shirt in form, with box pleat on the back yoke seam -- except with batik indian elephant prints with tie-dye rainbow background, alternating with tie-dye starburst circles on grey? bonkers

sadly this is too small for me to wear, and it's obviously been worn and loved by some dude very much -- the colors have probably faded a lot and the collar is practically falling apart. but still, for $2 it was impossible to pass up. i'm thinking of gifting it to a friend for xmas, but i'd have to do something about the collar -- either repair it with a bias strip or maybe even cut the collar off altogether and make a band collar shirt out of it? i don't know.

if i can't figure that out i might just use it for fabric.

fun shirts hitting critical mass this year, seeing them everywhere

flopson, Sunday, 17 March 2013 16:50 (thirteen years ago)

no more aloha shirts for me (at the workplace at least) but my new dress code is a suit with "a well-tailored, interesting dress shirt, no tie"

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Monday, 18 March 2013 11:57 (thirteen years ago)

uh oh

caek, Monday, 18 March 2013 11:59 (thirteen years ago)

suit & no tie is a pretty interesting dress code

"FUN FORMAL"

'ketel one advertorial'

open the blood gates (elmo argonaut), Monday, 18 March 2013 13:33 (thirteen years ago)

the 'no tie' part is downright offensive to you elmo, isnt it

乒乓, Monday, 18 March 2013 13:38 (thirteen years ago)

haha nah it's cool, it's the first time i've heard of that type of dress code though & i'm sure gr80 will rock the look flawlessly

open the blood gates (elmo argonaut), Monday, 18 March 2013 13:51 (thirteen years ago)

is it like "no tie necessary" or "NO TIE"?

caek, Monday, 18 March 2013 14:31 (thirteen years ago)

seems like in a no-tie + suit look the collar will do a lot of lifting. it seems whenever i look for shirts, high-end stuff is all spread collars and low-end stuff is all lame long point collars. are there shirtmakers that are known for having cool collars. i probably need to go to soho and east villlage boutiques more

乒乓, Monday, 18 March 2013 16:11 (thirteen years ago)

its NO TIE (via ~lyfestyle hotel~)

front desk managers just started wearing ties but that's relatively new i guess and just that department.

i've been stocking up on pastel solids and bold checks, but my boss has a decent wardrobe of shirts with FUN details: contrast buttons/stitching, solid shirts with patterns on the inside of the collar/cuffs, that sort of thing. any tips on finding DRESS shirts in this particular vein of FUN would be appreciated.

suits i currently have:

  • dark charcoal w/ subtle black pinstripe
  • lighter charcoal/black pindot
  • solid navy
  • blue in a shade too light to be called navy, too dark to be royal, has a little bit of black and brown that shows up in certain light
i have a light khaki suit too but dress code says no-go on that, even in warmer months. i think browns and greens are out too: grey is probably the only light color that will fly

light grey cotton suit is a p sweet jam

lag∞n, Monday, 18 March 2013 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

caek, Monday, 18 March 2013 16:28 (thirteen years ago)

i do not vibe to the spread collar

lag∞n, Monday, 18 March 2013 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

the ursprung for plain shirts with patterns on cuffs is paul smith, but they are £££

caek, Monday, 18 March 2013 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

can you wear a waistcoat/vneck?

caek, Monday, 18 March 2013 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

v-neck sweaters totally.

waistcoats probably, i don't really see myself going for that look though.

i bet FUN WAISTCOATS will be a thing any season now.

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Monday, 18 March 2013 16:55 (thirteen years ago)

totally

乒乓, Monday, 18 March 2013 16:55 (thirteen years ago)

gr80 just have your tailor replace the buttons on your shirts with gold plated ones

also gr8 please dont be the guy wearing a waistcoat

ò_ó, ó_ò, õ_o (Lamp), Monday, 18 March 2013 17:03 (thirteen years ago)

no for real tho, i think replacement buttons might be an inexpensive way to liven up a solid dress shirt, just not necessarily those xposts

open the blood gates (elmo argonaut), Monday, 18 March 2013 17:05 (thirteen years ago)

might buy this shirt-- with a navy suit its kind of fly

乒乓, Monday, 18 March 2013 17:09 (thirteen years ago)

no for real tho, i think replacement buttons might be an inexpensive way to liven up a solid dress shirt, just not necessarily those xposts

PREME

the late great, Thursday, 28 March 2013 19:00 (thirteen years ago)

the fact that the pattern isn't matched across the zipper is driving my eyes crazy and i'm not so crazy about the pattern itself BUT i kinda like the idea of a printed harrington-style jacket, as a concept
