The woman with the tattoo on her thigh and a penchant for real stockings is making me rethink several things.

homosexual II : I just saw your pic on wdyll earlier today and thought you looked really good and envied your polka dots. Then I come here and read this. Fugly?! NO! But I know how it goes.

VegemiteGrrl: i think that is because you have great skin and lovely whatevers :). I have never gotten that at cosmetic counters.

Maybe it's that time of year... time to peel out of old skins.

*tera, Saturday, 29 September 2012 06:22 (thirteen years ago)

Speaking of old skins, I'm not even sure I should tell you guys this but I ordered a blackhead extractor as an experiment, and wowza. It gets out...a lot.

I was just putzing around and didn't plan a whole treatment out, but definitely do not be me: take a hot shower and/or steam your face first. My skin feels a little sensitive today (12 hrs later) from pressing too hard, would have been much better if I steamed.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Saturday, 29 September 2012 14:53 (thirteen years ago)

Have you seen the close-up video of Biore pore strip removal? Was that posted here? Man, I could watch that thing all day, so don't hesitate to describe your extraction experiments! Are you red or just sensitive?

quincie, Saturday, 29 September 2012 18:57 (thirteen years ago)

Which video?? There are many on youtube but none has been HOLY SHIT amazing yet...

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Saturday, 29 September 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)

Basically the extraction tool is getting out things that are so small I wouldn't have targeted them by hand, I wouldn't be able to get to them directly. It just makes a dirty yellow-ish slurry as I draw it, pressing firmly, across fertile areas. You know those little annoying bumps that never turn cystic and you can't quite find the pore but they make your forehead un-smooth? This gets them out.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Saturday, 29 September 2012 19:29 (thirteen years ago)

There is some redness, not helped by the fact that I just washed and steamed my face and did some areas again. Washed again, now have a "calming mask" on and may try some home remedy for redness later tonight since I have to be on stage tmrw.

You're bringing so much oil and dirt right up on your skin, you have to wash before AND after and use an antiseptic after as well. Guessing you should sterilize tool before and after as well.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Saturday, 29 September 2012 19:33 (thirteen years ago)

where did you get the extractor from? i could do with something like that for my chin area

just1n3, Saturday, 29 September 2012 19:34 (thirteen years ago)

I think I ordered it from drugstore.com as part of a promotion to get a sample mascara? The brand is Tweezerman. Sephora always has them, possibly a beauty-supply place would too.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Saturday, 29 September 2012 19:39 (thirteen years ago)

Is that the metal tool with the little loop on the end? SOOO MUCH GUNK coming out of the skin on and around my nose. But I still have perpetual blackheads there.

tokyo rosemary, Saturday, 29 September 2012 21:45 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah that thing!

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Saturday, 29 September 2012 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

You're still going to have pores, but at least they can be pores without stuff in them.

Face kind of red, think I was overenthusiastic. Should I make a green tea poultice out of something? I don't know what besides green tea.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Saturday, 29 September 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

cornstarch or clay are both calming/soothing.

Jaq, Saturday, 29 September 2012 22:00 (thirteen years ago)

Oh. God. I've spent all day watching blackhead and sebaceous cyst removal videos, mesmerized and delighted. My scrupulous impulses are definitely activated.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Sunday, 30 September 2012 01:48 (thirteen years ago)

haha I was almost "??There are blackhead and extraction vi..." but then realized that of course there are.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Sunday, 30 September 2012 01:57 (thirteen years ago)

I've thought about getting one of those tools because if cleaned after every use it's much more sanitary than fingers but maybe less gentle than using Kleenex over fingers as the cosmetologists do? Also I fear the obsessiveness that might result...

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Sunday, 30 September 2012 02:01 (thirteen years ago)

unrelated: I can't wear makeup every day but goddamn I really do love how I look when I have a "face" put on.
goin out tonight :D

It goes well with my favorite lipgloss. It is a coral/melon color.

I also bought the Vice Palette from Urban Decay.

Funny! Cholas taught my best friend and I how to do this in the 9th grade.

*tera, Saturday, 13 October 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

Was given a free sample of organic deodorant on the weekend called 'pit putty' (lol) by Bumble and Bee. Anyone heard of it?
Ingredients: Organic arrowroot powder, organic coconut oil, aluminum-free baking soda, organic jasmine extract, organic peppermint essential oil

I tried it out today, so far so good. I think it would be powdery/leave white marks if you wore it with short sleeves, but the baking soda/arrowroot combo is nice and drying. It goes on weird because of so much baking soda in it, it's a bit, chalky kind of, you have to rub it in a bit. But straight out of the shower it goes on okay.

I've had trouble with Tom's and that umlaut Jason brand, they always make me really stinky towards the end of the day. So we'll see how this one goes. I would like to use straight organic if I can...but I always end up resorting to chemicals because I'm just so goddamn sweaty :/

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 15 October 2012 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

link here http://www.bubbleandbee.com/servlet/the-299/JasMint-'Pit-Putty-with/Detail

btw not a promo at all - my sister in law has MS and is on a hardcore gluten-free, vegan everything only-eats-like-4-things a day, and is experimenting with cosmetics and deodorants to go all natural. She was given the deodorants by a friend of a friend, and had extras laying around. And she knows about my neverending odyssey to find the perfect deodorant.

Which... I mean these things cost $10 so YES I WILL TAKE ONE

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 15 October 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

I would like to try that. My problem is deodorants usually leave me feeling stinkier than if I never used one. I used hydrosols and found they worked great. Really good, all natural, organic ones can get pricey and they run out fast. I have also used rosewater and lavender water applied with a cotton ball.

*tera, Thursday, 18 October 2012 08:51 (thirteen years ago)

I'm a week into using it and it works *perfectly*

I'm seriously surprised, also pleased. It goes on kinda weird. Like it sort of clumps a bit and you have to rub it in. Seems to be better application if your armpits are slightly damp than completely dry. No overpowering smell at all -- and I'm totally dry AND not stinky at all by the end of the day, no reapplication or extra products.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 18 October 2012 14:59 (thirteen years ago)

hmm sounds like something i should try

just1n3, Thursday, 18 October 2012 15:09 (thirteen years ago)

I like my Dove.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 18 October 2012 15:17 (thirteen years ago)

lol

Natural deodorant is just something I've never had any desire to try and I say that as someone who avoids parabens and shit and has cloth pads for Christ's sake. It's one area I'm not willing to compromise on.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 18 October 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

everyone's gotta draw her own line
for instance, rosewater dabbed gently in my dainty armpit with a cotton ball is not going to do the job for me, but i'm ok with a heavier lifting natural deodorant.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Thursday, 18 October 2012 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

I've always been chemical deodorant girl because it was the only thing that ever seemed to *work*. Everything else just left me really stinky by lunchtime.

I mean, I'm not saying this like a person who says 'omg carob is great it tastes just like real chocolate'.

I've been using Secret Clinical Strength, ffs. that's how much I didn't care about going senile from aluminum. And this stuff, for me, is AS effective, if not more so. Hand to god.

It's not for everyone and tbh I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but right now I'm a total believer.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 18 October 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

I am intrigued, because I too will throw any chemical at my body to make it smell nice (look at my job! heh.) I'm a Mitchum girl. Perhaps I should give this stuff a try.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 18 October 2012 16:01 (thirteen years ago)

I think the only strike I would put against it right now, and it's not really a strike, is just that it is kind of weird to apply. It sort of balls up, and you need to do it in front of a mirror to rub it in. But I've only had to use maybe 1 or 2 swipes to stay dry all day which is still p good. I mean, it costs $10 so it seems like it might at least last for a good long while.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 18 October 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)

that works for me! I think I get the mitchum for about $5 but I always drop it and break it and never get more than 1/2 of the uses I should be so it works out to about $10 for me too, haha. and I do get those ball things sometime.

btw you should write a longer post for the blog! there should be a twitter account that tweets links to the reviews and an @ at the brand that makes it, too. I know our accounts RT many mentions/reviews to give them kudos/brag a little and a side effect is a bit of traffic to the blog too, hopefully :)
that may not make a ton of sense, FFM has the gang over

SNAP. You read my mind. I was just thinking that maybe I *should* write a review. :D

Plus homosexual ii's excellent Estee Lauder Double Wear review kind of inspired me to start thinking more about things that I could review. I had been kind of blanking for a while.
