I feel pretty--NOT! THE COSMETICS THREAD

I don't know if this is the thread for it but I did my favorite thing and found a halloween costume that requires makeup and necessitates the purchasing of Ben Nye creme liners :D

I decided to do Ace Frehley face paint (just face, no costume, just tshirt &J eans) because I've wanted to do it since I was 4

I did not win the $300 cash prize for our video contest, alas! but they gave all entrants $150 vouchers to pick out product from work, so yay. I think I will get fancy conditioners, and maybe a lipstick that isn't bright bright red

I have some Ben Nye colors, I used them when I was a tree last year. Are they special?

White, black and grey, so not really very exciting colorwise, lol. But I also got an awesome Kryolan metallic wheel of silver, copper and gold that could be super awesome embellismhments for ~night time~ eyemakeup

and will also give me my space-Ace silver :D

Something new from Sephora or whatever your preferred makeup source. Do you do perfume? A new blush? Fancy nail polish?

cosmetics never make me feel better so i have no advice
all i can do with a case of the uglies is apply a new pair of shoes or sthg

maybe a facial? get your skin all pretty and shiny like a newborn babby?

or tell the girls at the MAC counter you're trying out makeup for prom and make them give you the full treatment, lol

actually I've tried out foundations at a few counters and those ladies are always dishing out the compliments, oh you have such great skin or lovely whatevers...they're good for an ego boost sometimes.

unless you have snotty ladies at yr fave counters then forget I said anything.

I have a troubleshooting flow chart for those days:
1. Am I finna get my period? If yes, head down and get through it.
2. How's my hair? Color faded? Bangs bushy? Do I have wig head (what I call it when it feels like I have too much hair)? Obv I need to get to the salon.
3. Are my eyebrows in need of grooming? I am confident nobody else can tell when this is the case but it bugs me.
4. Sometimes my skin gets dull (again, bet nobody else can tell) or just feels bleh, usually bc I've been lazy and using those makeup removed towelettes instead of properly washing my face. I have some of the Philosophy face peel kit stuff, which works well, or lately I just out the old Dove face brush.

It's almost always one of these things and if not, I buy an article of clothing. Right now I'm dealing with numbers 2 and 3, but not number 1 so I'm just kind of "Eh" about it.

Speaking of old skins, I'm not even sure I should tell you guys this but I ordered a blackhead extractor as an experiment, and wowza. It gets out...a lot.

I was just putzing around and didn't plan a whole treatment out, but definitely do not be me: take a hot shower and/or steam your face first. My skin feels a little sensitive today (12 hrs later) from pressing too hard, would have been much better if I steamed.

Have you seen the close-up video of Biore pore strip removal? Was that posted here? Man, I could watch that thing all day, so don't hesitate to describe your extraction experiments! Are you red or just sensitive?

Which video?? There are many on youtube but none has been HOLY SHIT amazing yet...

Basically the extraction tool is getting out things that are so small I wouldn't have targeted them by hand, I wouldn't be able to get to them directly. It just makes a dirty yellow-ish slurry as I draw it, pressing firmly, across fertile areas. You know those little annoying bumps that never turn cystic and you can't quite find the pore but they make your forehead un-smooth? This gets them out.

There is some redness, not helped by the fact that I just washed and steamed my face and did some areas again. Washed again, now have a "calming mask" on and may try some home remedy for redness later tonight since I have to be on stage tmrw.

You're bringing so much oil and dirt right up on your skin, you have to wash before AND after and use an antiseptic after as well. Guessing you should sterilize tool before and after as well.

where did you get the extractor from? i could do with something like that for my chin area

I think I ordered it from drugstore.com as part of a promotion to get a sample mascara? The brand is Tweezerman. Sephora always has them, possibly a beauty-supply place would too.

Is that the metal tool with the little loop on the end? SOOO MUCH GUNK coming out of the skin on and around my nose. But I still have perpetual blackheads there.

You're still going to have pores, but at least they can be pores without stuff in them.

I've thought about getting one of those tools because if cleaned after every use it's much more sanitary than fingers but maybe less gentle than using Kleenex over fingers as the cosmetologists do? Also I fear the obsessiveness that might result...

Funny! Cholas taught my best friend and I how to do this in the 9th grade.

Was given a free sample of organic deodorant on the weekend called 'pit putty' (lol) by Bumble and Bee. Anyone heard of it?
Ingredients: Organic arrowroot powder, organic coconut oil, aluminum-free baking soda, organic jasmine extract, organic peppermint essential oil

I tried it out today, so far so good. I think it would be powdery/leave white marks if you wore it with short sleeves, but the baking soda/arrowroot combo is nice and drying. It goes on weird because of so much baking soda in it, it's a bit, chalky kind of, you have to rub it in a bit. But straight out of the shower it goes on okay.

I've had trouble with Tom's and that umlaut Jason brand, they always make me really stinky towards the end of the day. So we'll see how this one goes. I would like to use straight organic if I can...but I always end up resorting to chemicals because I'm just so goddamn sweaty :/

btw not a promo at all - my sister in law has MS and is on a hardcore gluten-free, vegan everything only-eats-like-4-things a day, and is experimenting with cosmetics and deodorants to go all natural. She was given the deodorants by a friend of a friend, and had extras laying around. And she knows about my neverending odyssey to find the perfect deodorant.

Which... I mean these things cost $10 so YES I WILL TAKE ONE

I would like to try that. My problem is deodorants usually leave me feeling stinkier than if I never used one. I used hydrosols and found they worked great. Really good, all natural, organic ones can get pricey and they run out fast. I have also used rosewater and lavender water applied with a cotton ball.

I'm a week into using it and it works *perfectly*

I'm seriously surprised, also pleased. It goes on kinda weird. Like it sort of clumps a bit and you have to rub it in. Seems to be better application if your armpits are slightly damp than completely dry. No overpowering smell at all -- and I'm totally dry AND not stinky at all by the end of the day, no reapplication or extra products.
