Resolved to dye from box due to new poor student status, looked at boxes, tried to match colour, became haircolourblind, gave up, pulled some greys

the old lady who cuts my hair is like totally out of commission she fucked up her shoulder and never came back :(

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 14 September 2012 02:30 (thirteen years ago)

So taken by these ombré dip dyed lavender 100% human hair extensions:

I knew that was going to be sunny before I even looked at the second picture.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 02:08 (thirteen years ago)

I will admit to kind of liking the "washed out and washed up" ennui-laden rattiness of the pink ones.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 02:09 (thirteen years ago)

i wish i could find a stylist in little rock that bonded hair extensions with cold keratin fusion but it seems impossible not to mention impossibly expensive.

that second hair photo is gorgeous

<3 the natural ones but the pink ones are a bit Avril Lavigne

wow that pantene ad - it's all hair!

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 21 September 2012 18:11 (thirteen years ago)

I remember the "geometricks" ad so clearly, it must have been in Seventeen a lot or something. So jeal.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Friday, 21 September 2012 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know if it was a geometricks but I had one of those crimper/waver things with interchangeable plates. I loved it at the time but I'm pretty sure it didn't actually work very well.

can't believe that the Dihan Carroll wasn't a hair products ad - I mean who can look at Dihan's nails with all that hurr? lol

A couple months ago I found Salon Selectives on sale in Walgreens (must have relaunched it) alongside some Finesse. Smelling those two brands put me back about 25 years. SO WEIRD.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 21 September 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)

They're not the same scents though!! Both Finesse and Salon Selectives changed their scents iirc. The one I miss most is original Pantene.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 21 September 2012 18:54 (thirteen years ago)

Huh. These were in the same old school bottles and they smelled exactly the same to me and I have a really good scent memory. Maybe they were special through back editions?

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 21 September 2012 18:55 (thirteen years ago)

maybe -- remember my shampoo archive (RIP)? i did some tests about 11 years ago and they were different then, but who knows?! RIP orig Pantene and Pert Plus too.

i don't really have anything to add to this thread except it's ironic that after 30 years of hair trauma i'm currently getting the best haircuts i've ever gotten from juanita, latina grandmother, at supercuts for seventeen bucks

the late great, Friday, 21 September 2012 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

i think she groks my hair or something

do it yes

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 28 September 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

i want that cut so bad but my hair goes FLAT and kind of needs a place to HANG (with me)

kinder, Friday, 28 September 2012 15:46 (thirteen years ago)

think it'd look awes on you btw

kinder, Friday, 28 September 2012 15:46 (thirteen years ago)

Can't see images but had quick look on phone. I think they're two quite diff cuts? Michelle's looks a lot softer and like just tucked behind her ear and not actually short on one side? It's not as harsh and shaved seeming? I like them both a lot but I think that Robyn's would be a lot tougher to wear.

I sort of want Frankie Salford's cut but growing out the the one side is sort of a bitch from what I can remember.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 28 September 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

wait cut color or both?!

you gotta have a lot of hair in the front to properly pull this off without looking baldy, and you have that covered so clearly the cut will look great
i just want you to tell me that it's going to be blonde too!!

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 28 September 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

yes those cuts do best with hair that has natural volume, but i've seen them on people with flatter, straighter hair and they're good, just a dif look (more gothy...?). i basically have robyn's cut (lol i know right) + undercut/shaved parts but my hair is wavy/curly so it looks different (and black) and i haven't been blowdrying it into submission very often because summer!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 28 September 2012 15:55 (thirteen years ago)

Wasn't thinking of color but maybe now I am! What do you say, blonde for winter?

The shorter cut would be the "now" (possib with modified bangs) and the softer cut would be the growing-out look, 6 to 8 weeks from now. I love both but my hair is more Robyn-textured and very straight, not soft and fluffy with a slight wave.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Friday, 28 September 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

Ahhhhhhhhhh, gotcha.

Blonde, yes!

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 28 September 2012 16:01 (thirteen years ago)

um yeah i have thought you should dye it blonde forever!!

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 28 September 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)

yeah do it blonde!!!

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 28 September 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

Okay all right, I'll ask Steph about my options. And, ulp--the cost.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Friday, 28 September 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)

Blonde, yes.

carl agatha, Friday, 28 September 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

It is an investment. In you.

carl agatha, Friday, 28 September 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

see if there are less expensive blonde-ish options, like maybe your hair is already light enough that you don't have to bleach? but what do i know about going blonde, almost nothing.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 28 September 2012 18:21 (thirteen years ago)

yeah maybe blonde highlights or something?

also zero knowledge re blonde

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 28 September 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)

wait, i do know some things! my hairdresser friend taught me how to dye her blonde hair! there was bleach in the colour. and then she'd put a toner on later.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 28 September 2012 18:23 (thirteen years ago)

unless your hair is already blonde, going blonder is going to require stripping (bleach) and then applying whatever color you desire on top (unless everything i know about hair dyeing is wrong, that is)

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 28 September 2012 18:28 (thirteen years ago)

but a few streaks or just doing the front would be agl on L too, definitely
i liked the streak from a few years back

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 28 September 2012 18:29 (thirteen years ago)

I liked the streak too!

Yeah going blonde or getting highlights always includes bleach and toner. Some lady a few years back didn't tone mine once and the results were less than ideal. Too brash!

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 28 September 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

lol I mean brassy!

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 28 September 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

Whoah, I come back and there is so much advice! Thank you, all.

I don't mind brassy, I'm not going for a natural look here. And if you know what you're doing, you can get the dyes and toners at Ricky's and just go for it. I'll get the cut and then see if there's a bit I want to emphasize like I did with my old streak.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Friday, 28 September 2012 18:53 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, it's not always bad. This was bad though - very bad.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 28 September 2012 18:57 (thirteen years ago)

i have naturally dark brown hair but it goes blonde with a $8 box of loreal preference. I never use bleach like the blue shite unless im trying to get another dyed color out.

BLOCKY 4 LYFE (sunny successor), Friday, 28 September 2012 19:44 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, but I think there's bleach in all dyes that lighten even home kits like that, no?

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 28 September 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

yeah I guess but I dont think its mad lethal like the straight blue stuff

BLOCKY 4 LYFE (sunny successor), Friday, 28 September 2012 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Ok don't laugh, but I've wanted to slick my hair back for years, but never have tried it. My grandfather slicked his hair back for years and when he was older it stayed that way, which is how I'd like to look when I'm older, like
http://www.journalpulp.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/andre-breton.jpg
What are good products that won't be too greasy? I think my grandfather had this bucket of hair grease he used. There has to be something better?

JacobSanders, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:22 (thirteen years ago)

my rec would be sumotech:
