I actually don't care if ppl use my name now and then, I just wanted things I said to be less google-able.
I like that bottom lash trick, it's more subtle than lining the bottom and it's not right in your eye like water-line products!
i just don't like hearing my friends talk about themselves in a negative way. it's a weird thing i have!
U smrt. But I don't hate my atonality, I just think it makes me look like a boy. A chubby boy. So I dye and line and try to get some sun. :)

xp I like that site because they often have some pretty great tips and tricks. I am going to rock those eyes and this hair tomorrow, I think: http://thebeautydepartment.com/2012/09/double-rope-braid-bun/
That's fair, L! It just feels so weird calling you Orbit all of a sudden, but I absolutely understand.

In Orbit, please. ;) (There used to be another poster named "orbit," something I didn't remember until after I'd registered.)

I have a colorless face. My lips aren't that red, my eyes are a muddy hazel, my brows are invisible, and my hair color isn't much different from my skin.
I didn't use to, but as I've gotten older, I've gotten more colorless. I blew a coworker's mind this morning by telling her that my natural hair/eyelash color is a sort of washed out light brown for the hair, and almost blond for my lashes (that's why I like the lash tint). I use a pencil for my brows because they aren't as light, but eyebrow pencil is one of those things I use every time I leave the house, even if I don't wear any other makeup.
― carl agatha, Monday, 10 September 2012 16:51 (thirteen years ago)
was it here that I read the tip about putting pencil in the waterline on your upper lashes?
I tried that this morning--maybe I just did it too much, since i felt like you couldn't really see it, but it totally smudges underneath my eye every time i close them. haha. maybe my eyes are not cut out for this kind of detail work.
― rayuela, Monday, 10 September 2012 17:05 (thirteen years ago)
i'm more colorless than i used to be too if it makes you guys feel betterreally though, fixating on it (or thinking about it at all) just makes me feel like i am slipping back into a familiar old way of thinking that, for me, was kind of harmful. (i'm this, not that. i should be ____, not ______, my ____ should be this way, not the way it is)
sorry for getting all emotional/tmi

xp - hah! No problem, In Orbit. :)
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 10 September 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)
xp No, no, that's what you should do, if that's how you feel. In a way, since this kind of talk has a profound effect on you and you're sensitized to it, you're sort of a canary in a coal mine--an early alert system that the tone is going self-critical and off track. My tendency is to be really flippant about self-criticism but often that lets it in the door disguised as a joke, which it turns out not to be.
― purveyor of generations (in orbit), Monday, 10 September 2012 17:17 (thirteen years ago)
It's kind of a tough line in a thread about how to change the way you look!

rayuela: I have the same problem - striped black eyeballs! So pretty! :P I have not discovered a solution but I did read this today which may be something to try (or may be even MORE annoying and irritating!)

I think that colorlessness is a common feature of getting older, especially for people with fair/light coloring to begin with. It used to really get to me as part of the larger set of issues about getting older as a woman in the patriarchy and how that impacts the value society places on me and all that crapola, but I'm dealing with it better now.

Arrggg "stamping" my waterline with black eyeliner seems like a HORRIBLE idea.
I do, however, like this technique on the top lid, which I think is v. similar to the mascara trick FFM posted - http://www.stuffiputonmyself.com/2012/08/lets-do-eyeliner.html.
― carl agatha, Monday, 10 September 2012 17:25 (thirteen years ago)
Err, black eyeshadow, I meant.
i know, that's why i realized i should be carefulit's just about the way we talk about it, i think
i prefer to see myself this way, so i do this thing to alter my appearancevsmy face is wrong and i need to fix it, so i do this thing to alter my appearance
i am totally 100% on board with the first, but alarms go off at the second

This is good. It's a thin line, but sometimes framing is everything.

― kinder, Monday, 10 September 2012 18:04 (thirteen years ago)
you know what? i have never lined my waterline!"waterline" also seems like a weird word for it. i feel like it would make my eyes look smaller?
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 10 September 2012 18:04 (thirteen years ago)
Hello! I haven't caught up yet because I've been away all day but I just had a pretty awesome exchange with my trainee whose jaw literally dropped when I told her how old I am. She thought I was 25! Direct quote "You look amazing!". I mean, I mostly don't have a problem with aging and I am proud of my nearly 35 year old self but it was still pretty sweet to be mistaken as an entire decade younger than I am.

that's nice!
36 is when the shit really goes down, just sayin/warnin
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 10 September 2012 18:09 (thirteen years ago)
In more topical err topics, I never line my bottom lash line because it always makes me feel like I'm wearing too much make-up. I actually rarely even use mascara on the bottom for the same reason. I will try it out the next time I do nighttime make-up.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Monday, 10 September 2012 18:09 (thirteen years ago)
x-post - Oh no! Don't say that! :(

btw if you're any indication then I beg to differ, lady
haha, aw, thanks. though i do feel like it was actually on my 36th birthday that i found my first grey hair and noticed wrinklesbut yes, i am kinda joking, obv. it's all relative! everyone has different skin that ages differently!

people in their late-40s (and up) refer to me as a "young person" pretty often and i am like, okay... i'm interested to see how long it will take before that stops.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 10 September 2012 18:20 (thirteen years ago)
i do think of myself as young still, but also not-young
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 10 September 2012 18:21 (thirteen years ago)
x-post Yeah, me too. My mom always looked at least aruond 10 years younger than she was until she hit 70 so hopefully I'll follow suit and be OK for a good while. I do stay out of the sun (or wear sunscreen when in it) but until very recently I was a smoker. I think that a lot of it is down to genetics.

I just found my first grey hair. RS tried to convince me it was just very blond but grey hairs have a very specific texture. I admired his trying to humor me though.
Young at heart helps too :)

yeah i'm interested in knowing the day i will no longer be asked for ID. idk about the US but in NZ cashiers etc. are told to ID anyone who looks under 25.

Hey, quick out-of-place question: Does anyone remember where we talked about those blackhead removal tools? I'm ordering some stuff and I might get one of those but I think there were specific recommendations.

So! I put eyeliner on my waterline! using MAC graphblack technakohl liner. it looks dramatic! but better than when i line the outside of my lower lid, which i hardly ever do because i feel like it makes my eyes look smaller. but this is working better for me. it actually looks kind of badass.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 10 September 2012 22:58 (thirteen years ago)
as i recall now, a friend who was taking a make-up course did line my waterline once. i just didn't pay enough attention.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 10 September 2012 22:59 (thirteen years ago)
doing this also makes me wonder why i have been afraid of wearing contacts. that's just putting yr finger near yr eye. this is putting a pointed stick almost on yr eyeball.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 10 September 2012 23:09 (thirteen years ago)
I've tried waterline eyeliner several times and yeah it makes me eyes look way smaller.
― kinder, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 12:09 (thirteen years ago)
Waterline makes your eyes look smaller unless you do it on the outer corner of your eye only.
Trick to get bigger looking eyes of course is WHITE eyeliner on the waterline.
I tend to do a lot of dark on the outer edger of my eye, then lots of light colors on the inside of my eye (near the nose).
I tend to... overuse all eye makeup. Last weekend I got carried away and tried to emulate Priscilla Presley's eye makeup from her wedding, but even I couldn't overdo it as much as she did.
