I think that being beyond disgusting is the single thing all ilxors agree on

kinder, Friday, 7 September 2012 16:38 (thirteen years ago)

I honestly don't know what I'd do if someone just kicked off their shoes and started clipping away on the bus. I mean besides die, of course.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 7 September 2012 16:38 (thirteen years ago)

x-post - There was one person who admitted to clipping their nails at work though I can't remember who. You're right though - it seems to be a universal no-no.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 7 September 2012 16:38 (thirteen years ago)

OH shit! Jeff saw someone BRUSHING HIS TEETH on the train a couple of weeks ago! He was wearing a bathrobe, too! (the tooth brusher, not Jeff.)

carl agatha, Friday, 7 September 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)

OMG WHAT

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 7 September 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

That's sort of amazing.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 7 September 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

He posted about it somewhere, I think. I'll see if I can find it.

carl agatha, Friday, 7 September 2012 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

ha, my favourite co-worker called me up the other day to tell me that another co-worker had kicked off her shoes while they were talking and starting picking at her feet (keep in mind, they were both IN one of our stores while it was OPEN) and then started eating some food without washing her hands.

just1n3, Friday, 7 September 2012 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

haha kinder knows how to get our goats! and jeff saw The Dude?!

foundation I could never fathom doing on a train because there's always some left on my hands and I wash them before I go onto any other steps! but I'm one of those people who wash their hands a lot.

There is talk of train-makeupping on the IA thread:

I sat next to a woman on the train this morning who was doing her makeup, which annoys me but I can cope, except that I swear it took her ten minutes to put on foundation. She just kept getting a teeny little bit out of the tube, and then rubbing it on her face, getting a teeny bit more, and rubbing it on her face, then a teeny bit more, and rubbing it on her face, and then a teeny bit more, and rubbing it on her face. I think it was more the repetitive nature of the motions than the actual make-upping that was making me batty but phew, I was on edge until she switched to eyeliner.

And then later!

Guess what? I was on the train with the make-up lady this time! I timed her foundation application and it was not ten minutes but it was a little over five, which is still a really long time to dab makeup on your face. I wasn't in the seat next to her so I could surreptitiously check out her technique and she puts on LIQUID EYELINER! On the train! Using a little hand mirror! I can't even begin to put on liquid eyeliner in a perfectly still bathroom with a big mirror and bright lights. I'm torn between still being irritated by how long it takes her to put on foundation/the impropriety of personal grooming in public (I'm sorry, sunny! I'm kind of stuffy about these things) and being completely impressed by her skill.

The person I was sitting next to was wearing earphones and also playing Words with Friends WITH THE SOUND ON. I don't even think she realized it.

I have things planned. I have wanted to blog about PRODUCTS forever!

PS my gel manicure that I got almost a month ago still is perfectly intact EXCEPT for my right hand index finger, which has been torn to shreds. Should I get a new one or just keep on truckin'?

/The person I was sitting next to was wearing earphones and also playing Words with Friends WITH THE SOUND ON. I don't even think she realized it/

how does that work? if you've got the jack in, don't all the sounds go through the earbuds?? now i'm worried i've been playing games with the sound on for folks while i listen to my music

rayuela, Friday, 7 September 2012 16:58 (thirteen years ago)

Hasn't it grown out some so that you can see your bare nails at the bottom?

xp IIRC she was listening to an iPod, playing Ww/F on her phone.

carl agatha, Friday, 7 September 2012 16:58 (thirteen years ago)

Yes it has, but I actually like the way it looks a lot because it makes my fingers look longer.

homosexual II, Friday, 7 September 2012 17:00 (thirteen years ago)

Hell, roll with it then.

carl agatha, Friday, 7 September 2012 17:01 (thirteen years ago)

A month is fuckign impressive for gel. The longest I've gone is 3 weeks but by that point they were getting pretty torn up. I just had gel and it lasted exactly 2 weeks. Sometimes I get antsy and want to change the color but I have to admit it's pretty damn sweet.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 7 September 2012 17:01 (thirteen years ago)

I think I'd always get gel but then I'd feel bad for the 30 some odd polishes I have at home.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 7 September 2012 17:02 (thirteen years ago)

I didn't buy all those btw. I won a blog give away last year and got about half of them from that.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 7 September 2012 17:02 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't worn nail varnish on my fingers in years but you guys are basically making me do it. Also all the cool girls at work do it too. (By cool I mean the lady who always wears amazing 60s style indiegirl outfits and my boss who is always wearing some kick-ass office dress)

kinder, Friday, 7 September 2012 17:17 (thirteen years ago)

Wearing nail polish for me started as a way to get me to stop biting them but now I just love the way it looks. I feel really weird without it on.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 7 September 2012 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

BUt only because I'm used to it now.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 7 September 2012 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

I like it too because it keeps me from fucking up my nails.

homosexual II, Friday, 7 September 2012 17:39 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah my cuticle are TOAST unless I pay someone to maintain them every couple of weeks.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Friday, 7 September 2012 18:17 (thirteen years ago)

i do my nails every sunday, fingers and toes. i own a million polishes and get new ones all the time. i just got some of the extremely narrow tip nail brushes to do detail work lol

I'm lazy about my toes but I tend to do my nail polish every Sunday too :) I bought some tiny stickers today with the hopes of using them as fun decals. Some are Bat signals! I also bought a few liner ones this week so this weekend's result should be fun.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 8 September 2012 02:27 (thirteen years ago)

Plane about to take off so can't post more than I AM SO IN! More tomorrow when I am back on land.

quincie, Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:42 (thirteen years ago)

Aww sorry for the disappoint on the nails dudes. Yeah I found those on pintrest which is a great place for hair and nail ideas. Also, can I be in on this blog????

carl agatha, Monday, 10 September 2012 14:41 (thirteen years ago)

you guys.

surm, Monday, 10 September 2012 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

the air conditioning was not on in my lobby this morning

surm, Monday, 10 September 2012 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

i'm feeling a little upset.

surm, Monday, 10 September 2012 14:43 (thirteen years ago)

I suspect that the AC was not on in my train car this morning, either. Three days in the 60s/low 70s and everybody acts like it's fucking winter.

carl agatha, Monday, 10 September 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

THANK YOU

surm, Monday, 10 September 2012 15:01 (thirteen years ago)

i promptly put in a work request for it. i was like, it's 75 not 50. stop being fuckin cheap and put your AC back on.

surm, Monday, 10 September 2012 15:01 (thirteen years ago)

anyway this has to do with my cosmetics bc i had a really good time with my makeup this morning and left the house feeling completely fresh-faced, til i was slapped with a no AC welcome to work

surm, Monday, 10 September 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

That is seriously the worst. I was just telling a coworker that I've turned into a eyelash tint addict because mascara just melts everywhere when it's hot.

carl agatha, Monday, 10 September 2012 15:42 (thirteen years ago)

totally. on hot hot days i use clear

surm, Monday, 10 September 2012 15:45 (thirteen years ago)

Is eyelash tinting legal where you live? It's pretty amazing. I've already decided one of my posts for IFP-N: The Blog will be about eyelash tint because I am 100% certain my brow lady would be willing to take a picture of me with the dye on my lashes.

carl agatha, Monday, 10 September 2012 15:48 (thirteen years ago)

I'm just about to re-order my dye that I use for eyebrows but is good for lashes too.

http://www.1000hour.com.au/dyekit.html

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Monday, 10 September 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

Have you used it on your lashes before? Getting them dyed at the salon is kind of stressful and messy and I'm honestly afraid to do it at home by myself.

carl agatha, Monday, 10 September 2012 16:02 (thirteen years ago)

I have but it really stings if/when it gets in my eyes and I have not been that successful at keeping it out but that's partly because I try to do one eye at a time so I can open the other one and still do stuff during the boring-as-fuck 15 minutes. If you have one or more people with you, you can at least TALK to each other for amusement, do both eyes at once and keep them squeezed shut, and avoid the pain.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Monday, 10 September 2012 16:04 (thirteen years ago)

If you really squeeze your eyes shut, the lashes are going to get dye all over your under-eye area so you might want to put a bit of stationary tape or something under there to keep it off the skin? Tape is the first thing that occurred to me but I'm sure there are other options too.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Monday, 10 September 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

At the salon, they smear Vaseline around your eyes and stick these contoured pieces of paper underneath to prevent that.
