It's like any blog, except people review makeup/skincare they purchased (and after they get enough followers, companies take notice and send them stuff! The new brand I am working on is scouting bloggers to offer product to for contests among their readers [and we'll send one to the blog writer too].) My friend has a book review one at http://bookbrothel.com, I swear when I lived with her/she moved home but I saw her often I didn't buy more than 10 books over 3 years because she got SO many things and would pass half onto me!

I get the concept, just didn't know what the writing was supposed to be like or if it was a type of writing I would be interested in doing. I guess the answer is fairly clear if I have never read one.
I'm sure y'all will do a better job than I would!

I know with my friend's book site she was never made to promise she'd review anything, and indeed never even read all the books she received (20-30 a month at one point! but a lot of debuts and ARCs).

I feel like there is room for smart criticism - I've never enjoyed a site where everything is perfect and recommended! I am sure E was envisioning this thread, in blog form with a picture or two. But, that's for E to really hammer out - I am just a sad penniless orphan standing outside the candy shop longingly, or something.

There are a lot of beauty product blogs, so I think (but if this is way off base tell me) to get readers we need to differentiate ourselves which would mean writing about makeup etc. in whatever way felt natural. So if you wanted to write about dumb product names, that would be great.

It's like, being flattering to products that you don't like isn't what makes this a success. Being different and interesting and getting readers is what makes it a success. (Success defined as "getting makeup companies to send us shit" in this case.)

I think that I just said what FFM said but using a whole lot more words.

I think this blog NEEDS a feature mocking product names. The world cries out for such a thing.

I can see it being fun for me for like 3 min and then I would run out of things to say and would turn into a grouch but que dios les bendiga, make it rain. If my current blogs are any indication, attracting readers is not my forte.

I'm almost in my 40s so I can be the "mature skin" correspondent. We also have different career trajectories and styles, which I think will be good, since a lot of makeup blogs seem to be run by young twee women. Are we all white ladies? I'm not going to focus too hard on the "diverse perspective" angle if that's the case.

Yeah, I think we're all white. I agree that different styles will be good too.

I would love to make a banner image to insert into standard blogger template or something if you guys are interested! I don't think I have the time/patience to re-teach myself Blogger coding or anything but I feel like a lot of templates nowadays are pretty customizeable in terms of colours and swapping our header images. At least that's the legacy *I* tried to leave with the design world! Bringing it back to the early days when I first met E by doing a design for her! <3
