It went up so light it's barely visible gray. Barely. Even right up against white walls, it is not a blue ceiling. It makes me so mad.
― in orbit, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)
my bf and i bought ecopaint and it was kindof a mistake since it went on p poorly and enough extra coats to make it p costly and i dont even really know how much better it is for the environment than other paint
― Lamp, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)
Oh, that didn't work: it was the Air.06. On-screen it's a pure light blue. Apparently it goes up like this (which I did not see before buying):

Living room lookin good! Too bad about those vertical blinds.
Reeeally like the ceiling drum shade in the top pic, too. Nice one, IKEA.
― purveyor of generations (in orbit), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)
i kinda like the vertical blinds, they match the 70s vibe of the place
what would you get instead?
― the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)
hello, turtle!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)
Anything. Not vertical blinds. But probably I don't have any vision.
― purveyor of generations (in orbit), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)
the blinds are not ideal perhaps but really not so bad - i think they do suit the decor in a way
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)
i like the general vibe of your home but i think you could use some more PLANTSbut i always overdo it with plants why because they are alive and green and planty
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:55 (thirteen years ago)
i mean if you really want to 70s it up, get some ferns
yeah plants are on my list ... for example the very top shelf of the wall unit is open for ... hanging ferns!
and in the space between the fake baha rocker and the speaker i want to put a little plant shelf, like a sawhorse type bakers rack deal
tobi turtle says hi!
my friend made this at the walker museum via some sort of generative artwork machine and brought it back to me, so i hung it over this ikea lamp to diffuse the light a little more
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8449/7977401380_c013c11794.jpg
the wall above this thing is empty precisely so i can start hanging plants
i am trying to do one thing at a time thoughi guess it's kinda egomaniacal but i think it still looks good
― the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)
does your dog worship his food/water/master in front of that thing? i hope so.
man i love plants, always want more. i have a couple that are kinda dying and i'd like to replace them but i have been told that i need to cut back on the plants :-/
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)
yeah those are his food and water bowls
really i mostly worship him though and the turtle though, tobi especially sucks up many more hours than i intended
he's on my lap with his head in my armpit right now
― the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 21:00 (thirteen years ago)
i would like to get a couple more plants (to join the two i have) for my place. like pets, plants help life.
i have been told that i need to cut back on the plants
Set them free at the botanical garden secretly, under a giant prehistoric fern leaf, and go visit them on the weekends?
I tried to grow plants in my kitchen and they all died within 2 weeks. I honestly don't know what it was. I tried to revive the parsley by putting it outside in the full sun but it still expired even with sun and water.
― purveyor of generations (in orbit), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)
yeah i feel like i need to be really careful, i'm trying to just make sure i can keep my outdoor plants alive first, plants are not really meant for indoors!
my ficus is doing well though
― the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)
wait, plants aren't meant for indoors?
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 21:32 (thirteen years ago)
well now that I said it I think there are some that do well indoors like ficus
my succulents though i feel like not really
― the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 22:21 (thirteen years ago)
OK, this is kind of bad but I have a tall metallic vase, the kind that they sometimes have fake decorative grass sticking out of in stores, and I have some "pet grass" I planted for my cat that he seems uninterested in. It's wheatgrass, iirc. Thinking if I can figure out a way to embed it at the top of the vase it may look not quite like a furniture store?
― your naïve bacon (mh), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 22:57 (thirteen years ago)
i don't get what you're saying mh?
i think the real issue is that a lot of small plants are built for partial shade, like the kind they get under trees, and that's hard to do in the house. also dust but that can happen outdoors too.
anyway this is what i want, just more broader and squatter, more modernist and less old-timey

New place is VERY MUCH a work in progress, but I'm liking the way things are shaping up with orange shelves + red rug (with some orange in it) + neutral couch + black table and chair.

TBH it's a hand-me-down rug from the inlaws that we just picked up, so I don't know exactly what kind. It does look kind of afghan in style to me though from what little I know of rugs.
― look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 23:25 (thirteen years ago)
I'm kind of against the plants and photo frame on top right now, but we're working these things out
― look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 23:26 (thirteen years ago)
afghan rugs are the ones with the very geometric black-and-white diamonds in a red expanse (or something like that), persian ones tend toward more rounded and floral forms
then again there are like 13 ethnic groups in iran, each w/ several variations of rug style, not counting persians who have one or more styles for each metropolis, and then there are transitional forms that people make too
i see some things about it that look afghan (the center diamonds and color scheme) and some things that look persian (the floral edges)

department of the interior: home decor
This is a great shop! I had tables on the inside of all of my windows overburdened with cactus and thorny succulents from this place as a home defense system. If someone tried to break in, they'd stick themselves on a cactus and be all "fuck this, I'm outta here" was my thinking. Possibly stupid, but whatever. And as a cool side effect I had a great indoor cactus garden.

I agree!I have no plants in my house. I'm just not capable. My grandma has won many awards for her garden and I kill everything that enters this apartment.

there's like a full-on tour upthread if you're interested, suffice to say i am a sad little houseproud man
i put time into this shit every day though, rearranging or reorganizing stuff until it's *perfect* in my head and then doing it over again, the living room in particular went through a few iterations before i was brave enough to post it here.

What?? I mean, thanks, but it's just a bookshelf/curio shelf and a distraction from the open-air garment rack on the other side of the room--nothing can make THAT look better, unfortunately. Except, I suppose getting rid of all my clothes that aren't neutrals.
