there are like 5000 shades of white!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:03 (thirteen years ago)

some of those shades are soft and non-clinical

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:03 (thirteen years ago)

or maybe i like clinical minimalism

My new bathroom vent fan takes the smaller variety of lightbulb and I purchased some CFs to fit but they're a little on the blue end of the color temperature spectrum. I either need to accelerate my bathroom remodel plans or get those 6500 ones.

yellow lite 4 life 2700k all the way

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

literally in my case since i have seasonal affective disorders

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

These don't look yellow at all in practice but put off pretty nice light: http://www.usa.philips.com/c/standard-led-light-bulbs/20011/cat/en/#filterState0=LED_BULB_SU_US_CONSUMER%3Dtrue

So I looked up Fallow & Ball paint colors. Just started breathing again after seeing $100 PER GALLON cost.

in orbit, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)

lol don't look at premium snooty paint, just find a nice comparable color at real paint prices

your naïve bacon (mh), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:03 (thirteen years ago)

take a pantone swatch to the hardware store and have them match it in dunn-edwards

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:05 (thirteen years ago)

gah shit i mean sherwin-williams for about 50/gallon or behr for 30/gallon, think dunn-edwards runs about 75

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:07 (thirteen years ago)

dunn-edwards: ace hardware
behr: home depot
sherwin-williams: own stores

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)

lowe's has a cheap one called "olympic" which is supposedly very low VOC content

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, home depot's higher end is behr, I was thinking lowes is valspar?

your naïve bacon (mh), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

olympic is like $116 for FIVE gallons of off-white

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:13 (thirteen years ago)

now that is some paint

your naïve bacon (mh), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

We used one x Farrow and Ball (Pelt, fyi) but the rest was copied - just Dulux or whatever. Cheat codes are the best bit about knowing people that do this for a living!

kinder, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:15 (thirteen years ago)

ime there is a huge difference in the paint colors achievable in different brands. Obv a huge part of what you pay for in $$$ paints is their ability to be on top of the "new" and designer colors--asking yr average attitudinal high-schooler Home Depot employee to eyeball something like that seems risky.

I was looking for a particular brick red last year and more than one of the lower-cost paint companies just DID NOT MAKE anything comparable. I settled for a red-orange that turned out to be horrible and I had to paint over it, never used it for anything.

in orbit, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:16 (thirteen years ago)

I have just learned that Home Depot has a paint brand called YOLO Colorhouse.

Hmm, yup.

your naïve bacon (mh), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:26 (thirteen years ago)

sherwin-williams and behr i believe have automated color-matching now

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:29 (thirteen years ago)

OH, I TRIED THE YOLO PAINT. It was the LOVELIEST COLOR on the internet, and I couldn't find the same light blue in any other paint line that I had easy access to. So I ordered it, and it's online ONLY, cannot see in stores.

When it came it was so pale it's almost not tinted. I used it because I needed a ceiling paint for that room but it is NOT what I ordered. Never been sure if it was a faulty gallon or just me not getting a color chip first like a responsible person.

in orbit, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:34 (thirteen years ago)

gfy

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:34 (thirteen years ago)

Also did not feel like carrying it BACK to my office to send it back in the mail, those things are fukkin heavy.

in orbit, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:35 (thirteen years ago)

http://www.yolocolorhouse.com/scripts/color-block.php?color=air06

It went up so light it's barely visible gray. Barely. Even right up against white walls, it is not a blue ceiling. It makes me so mad.

in orbit, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

my bf and i bought ecopaint and it was kindof a mistake since it went on p poorly and enough extra coats to make it p costly and i dont even really know how much better it is for the environment than other paint

Lamp, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, that didn't work: it was the Air.06. On-screen it's a pure light blue. Apparently it goes up like this (which I did not see before buying):

the late great, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:23 (thirteen years ago)

Living room lookin good! Too bad about those vertical blinds.

Reeeally like the ceiling drum shade in the top pic, too. Nice one, IKEA.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

i kinda like the vertical blinds, they match the 70s vibe of the place

what would you get instead?

the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

hello, turtle!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)

Anything. Not vertical blinds. But probably I don't have any vision.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)

the blinds are not ideal perhaps but really not so bad - i think they do suit the decor in a way

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)

i like the general vibe of your home but i think you could use some more PLANTS
but i always overdo it with plants why because they are alive and green and planty

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:55 (thirteen years ago)

i mean if you really want to 70s it up, get some ferns

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 19:55 (thirteen years ago)

yeah plants are on my list ... for example the very top shelf of the wall unit is open for ... hanging ferns!

and in the space between the fake baha rocker and the speaker i want to put a little plant shelf, like a sawhorse type bakers rack deal

tobi turtle says hi!

my friend made this at the walker museum via some sort of generative artwork machine and brought it back to me, so i hung it over this ikea lamp to diffuse the light a little more

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8449/7977401380_c013c11794.jpg

the wall above this thing is empty precisely so i can start hanging plants

i am trying to do one thing at a time though
i guess it's kinda egomaniacal but i think it still looks good

the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

does your dog worship his food/water/master in front of that thing? i hope so.

man i love plants, always want more. i have a couple that are kinda dying and i'd like to replace them but i have been told that i need to cut back on the plants :-/

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

yeah those are his food and water bowls

really i mostly worship him though and the turtle though, tobi especially sucks up many more hours than i intended

he's on my lap with his head in my armpit right now

the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

you have really good pets, tlg :)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:59 (thirteen years ago)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 21:00 (thirteen years ago)

i would like to get a couple more plants (to join the two i have) for my place. like pets, plants help life.
