actually there are no seasons here, just drier and warmer vs cooler and wetter

the late great, Friday, 31 August 2012 22:40 (thirteen years ago)

help!

i can't decide between

blue popover: http://www.reynspooner.com/shop/classic-collection/classic-SpoonerKloth/Mala%20Pua-1696.html

dusty blue popover: http://www.reynspooner.com/shop/classic-collection/classic-shirts/new-pihi-maze-5143.html

blue button down: http://www.reynspooner.com/shop/modern-collection/modern-shirts/new-mamalu-3141.html

i'm partial to the first one, both for price and also for authenticity?

the late great, Sunday, 9 September 2012 00:43 (thirteen years ago)

ha the third one is one I already posted upthread. keep in mind the "modern collection" runs a lot smaller than the "classic collection"

1st one is def a little more ~authentic~ but this hands down the most authentic reyn spooner shirt:

RAP GAME MARiSSA MARCHANT (gr8080), Sunday, 9 September 2012 16:51 (thirteen years ago)

lag∞n, Sunday, 9 September 2012 16:53 (thirteen years ago)

first season of stussy deluxe (which i think is now defunct) from like 7-8 years ago

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:20 (thirteen years ago)

i like them both but i think the idea of one basic pattern but with panels cut w/ different bias (am i saying that right?) is a dope idea (shirt at right)

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:21 (thirteen years ago)

i ALMOST bought the shirt at left when it came out but i chickened out

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:22 (thirteen years ago)

re: hawaiian patterns, i mean it's def nice to see large scale prints and esp floral patterns get the cosign from mainstream men's style but -- ugh, i feel like you can go all in crazy or just stay out, but half-assing is pretty ugly recipe for dad style

i mean is it just me or does this subdued hawaiian just look geriatric? in a bad way? the whole look, really

p sure i have seen that exact shirt in rayon at savers with a 'puritan' label

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:26 (thirteen years ago)

tlg: i like the bias cut panels on that (the bias is the 45 degree diagonal between the perpendicular warp / weft of the weave)

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

super otm.

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:32 (thirteen years ago)

ok so i'm using the word sort of correctly. does bias cut mean specifically 45 degrees or can it be any angle other than 90 / 0 degrees w/r/t warp and weft.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:37 (thirteen years ago)

i lost my navy hat at a bar last night :-(

oh well, my vintage dude has two authentic ones from particular ships, guess i'd better grab those while i can

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:39 (thirteen years ago)

tlg: srs question: isn't sporting a navy hat in such a huge navy town when you're not a navy guy kind of nagl?

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:48 (thirteen years ago)

no, because

1) my roommate was a gunnery sergeant

2) when i worked at scripps oceanography i was on a naval DARPA contract

3) tons of non-military dudes wear this shit as a "support our troops" kind of thing

4) actually there are a ton of navy guys who look even more weedy and nerdy than me so probably nobody can tell

5) i don't think i wear it "ironically" or have that look about me

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:51 (thirteen years ago)

i don't know, maybe i do look like a gigantic douchebag, but i wear a ton of military type shit (m-65s, fatigue pants, shirts with epaulettes, even some camo) and i have a fair # of military buddies and i am kind of a military tech nerd along tombot lines so it's basically in keeping with my personality

the other part of the srs answer is that being middle eastern has caught me 10x as much flak with military dudes as anything i've ever worn so i pretty much don't think about it

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)

fun hats

word, thanks 4 answers

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:55 (thirteen years ago)

i think of it like wearing a USC sweater, you don't have to have attended USC in southern california or even have a family member to support the trojans (fuck the trojans imo btw)

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:55 (thirteen years ago)

should read:

in southern california you don't have to have attended USC ...

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)

Trojans don't preserve our freedom tho

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:57 (thirteen years ago)

not unless you live in anatolia

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

i have thought about it though and i think if confronted on it i would go for #1, 2, 3 and then probably just take off the damn hat if that didn't make whoever happy

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

Nick Wooster is so dreamy

ouch

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:05 (thirteen years ago)

oh and i'm p sure bias is specifically 45 degrees -- you see bias cuts mostly in womenswear because they drape & move more fluidly that cuts on the grain

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

than*

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

ah, i know the bias cut dress idea but i didn't realize it was specifically 45
