i wore it out to a party and fell asleep in it and went to brunch in it and it kicks ass. what i realized is it's not supposed to fit like a guayabera which is how some fools are wearing it but rather like a polo, almost with padded sleeves because they hit so sharply at the shoulders. i just needed to stop slouching.

i like them both but i think the idea of one basic pattern but with panels cut w/ different bias (am i saying that right?) is a dope idea (shirt at right)

re: hawaiian patterns, i mean it's def nice to see large scale prints and esp floral patterns get the cosign from mainstream men's style but -- ugh, i feel like you can go all in crazy or just stay out, but half-assing is pretty ugly recipe for dad style

tlg: i like the bias cut panels on that (the bias is the 45 degree diagonal between the perpendicular warp / weft of the weave)

ok so i'm using the word sort of correctly. does bias cut mean specifically 45 degrees or can it be any angle other than 90 / 0 degrees w/r/t warp and weft.

tlg: srs question: isn't sporting a navy hat in such a huge navy town when you're not a navy guy kind of nagl?

no, because

1) my roommate was a gunnery sergeant

2) when i worked at scripps oceanography i was on a naval DARPA contract

3) tons of non-military dudes wear this shit as a "support our troops" kind of thing

4) actually there are a ton of navy guys who look even more weedy and nerdy than me so probably nobody can tell

5) i don't think i wear it "ironically" or have that look about me

i don't know, maybe i do look like a gigantic douchebag, but i wear a ton of military type shit (m-65s, fatigue pants, shirts with epaulettes, even some camo) and i have a fair # of military buddies and i am kind of a military tech nerd along tombot lines so it's basically in keeping with my personality

the other part of the srs answer is that being middle eastern has caught me 10x as much flak with military dudes as anything i've ever worn so i pretty much don't think about it
