what's a girl supposed to do?
Sun hats. Also I'm counting on Amanda to bring the parasol back into style.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:46 (thirteen years ago)
it seems they don't make that particular sunblock anymore thoughxpyep, hats!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)
i have already begun to use my parasol and so far no one has laughed at mei think it's rather attractive, reallymy only complaint is that it requires a hand so if i have dog on a leash in one hand and parasol in other, i can't carry a cup of coffee
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)
Did you get the one from Amazon? How is the quality? I would like one myself although Jeff has suggested that he won't go outside with me if I use it.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:52 (thirteen years ago)
He goes outside with me when I wear my most ridiculous of floppy sunhats, so I am not sure why the parasol would be any more embarrassing.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)
honestly though, my mineral make-up does a pretty good job of warding off the sun!xpi had an idea for a parasol handle-extender when at the beach earlier this summer. like to make a regular umbrella seem more like a beach umbrella. maybe there should be an extender that fits on a purse or an armband or something, haha.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)
I always get moisturizer with SPF and have never had any probs with it but I don't add any additional SPF on top of it or anything. I think right now I have Cetaphil with SPF 30.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)
No, it's Cerave.
I might have to try that instead.
I've also abandoned the clinique BB cream...it was only good for a couple of days before I was breakout city, and in natural light my skin looks kinda grey and dead looking which creeped me out.
this has been a baaad month for my face in general, lol
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)
You should return the bb cream and tell them it made you break out!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:34 (thirteen years ago)
Poor VG. It sounds like you need a break from everything for awhile, or at least bring it down to the bare minimum of products that you can get away with.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:36 (thirteen years ago)
when my skin is having crazy times, esp in summer, i rinse (not necessarily wash) my face at noon and again in evening and then again at end of day and that helps
i also live in (very minor) fear of them ever discontinuing Impruv moisturizer, which has basically been a skin saver for me
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:45 (thirteen years ago)
in cosmetics news, i've decided that my autumn present to self, aside from a new pair of cute shoes (my close-toed shoe situation is dire!), will be a new red Dior Addict lipstick yaay :)
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:48 (thirteen years ago)
(i had coffee this afternoon)
ive never tried anything in the entire dior line of makeup but its v attractive to me as a makeup line. they seem like they have a lot of interesting "gimmicky" things for lack of a better word. like makeup that DOES things besides sit on your face
― the most astonishing writer on ilx (roxymuzak), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:50 (thirteen years ago)
haha yeah srsly they're really into makeup that plumps and enhances and motivates yr face into another state of being or something
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)
though i've only ever used their lipstick, which i love, and mascara, which i was meh about compared to the clinique i've used for years. it's very $$ is the thing... but i think i will see if i can get a sample of an appropriate foundation just to see if it turns my face into a thousand tiny shining stars
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)
xxpost rrobyn - do you just rinse with water? that might be a good idea.
the cerave cleanser/moisturizer has been p good overall, it's just all the other shit that's been slathered on my face that's giving me a hard time.
I feel weird taking the BB cream back -- I've had it for like a month.
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)
Did you get it at Sephora?
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:02 (thirteen years ago)
take it back if you have time - think about it in terms of them needing to know that it made you break out, even if they don't really care. a month is not that long when it comes to skin stuff.
yes, just rinse with tepid water, like to get sweat and dirt off
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:05 (thirteen years ago)
I seriously returned shapewear and pierced earrings to Macy's last week. I was sure I was on a fool's errand but they took everything back without blinking.
I've taken stuff back to Sephora that I had for about a month. They have a good return policy. Hell when I bought the foundation yesterday the lady told me that if it turned out to be too dark for me once summer was over, I should take it back.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:07 (thirteen years ago)
I got it at Macy's and I don't have the receipt or the box anymore.
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:13 (thirteen years ago)
Oh well you're probably screwed.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)
shrug
At least now I know I should keep the receipt for a while at least -- I never thought I could return opened cosmetics. Good to know!
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:16 (thirteen years ago)
yeah i got the one with battenburg laceit's black doesn't offer the wide coverage i was expecting, but it does the trick
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 17 August 2012 22:11 (thirteen years ago)
B0urj01s is sold at Sephora
Not anymore :(
― tokyo rosemary, Saturday, 18 August 2012 03:54 (thirteen years ago)
I can hardly tell you how happy it makes me that someone else knows what Battenburg lace is.

I have to say - I got a lip liner that is clear/silicone and it works like a charm. I had a bunch of lip glosses that I never used because of smudging and now that I have this, I just outline the outer edge of my lips, slap some lipgloss on and nothing runs! Finally the tube of MAC's Russian red is getting some play. To be fair, I never really experimented much with standard lip liner (the dark brown lines of the 90s still haunt me).

Oh what a neat idea! That makes so much sense.
FYI, I love this Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation. It took me a couple of days to figure out the right amount to use but I got it and now I'm a foundation convert.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Thursday, 23 August 2012 14:21 (thirteen years ago)
ahathe right amount! that's an important thing.
laurel will remember when i tried some bb cream at her place and at first it was like an extremely thick weird almost waterproof grey kabuki maskthen i fixed it, but wow that stuff was weird.
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Thursday, 23 August 2012 14:31 (thirteen years ago)
TARTE DISCONTINUED my foundation :(
However, I have discovered Estee Lauder Double Wear - THIS SHIT IS THE BUSINESS. Best foundation I have ever used by a long shot.
I got bored today and did crazy makeup.

LOVE your eye makeup (well, the whole thing, but hell yeah on your eyeliner in particular)!
― quincie, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 01:52 (thirteen years ago)
Oh and ELDW gets major kudos on makeupalley. Hence the fact that I know it is known by acronym.

lipstick is Ben Nye "Pink Tart" - they are only about $9.
― homosexual II, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 04:52 (thirteen years ago)
I have a gigantic Sephora palette that I got for Xmas last year. I get one every year. They are worth the money (and are only like $50!)
All over the lid I used a really light blue. In the crease, a bright copper. In the outer corner of the eye a darker copper brown. Then shit tons of eyeliner (Liquid on the top, a pencil on the bottom and along both the water line and underneath the eye)
― homosexual II, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 04:54 (thirteen years ago)
ooooooh what do you use on you waterline? I can't get anything to stay there :(
― quincie, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 14:31 (thirteen years ago)
Some cheap Revlon thing... I have trouble getting eyeliner to stay there for very long, too.
― homosexual II, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 20:01 (thirteen years ago)
revlon colorstay always stays on my waterline
― the most astonishing writer on ilx (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 20:42 (thirteen years ago)
Love mand33's makeup too!
Work is hosting a video contest for new product, I said what the hell: behold my cheesy self, low production skills and utter lack of talent! Ran out of light so had to do with the best of a few shitty closing shots. Sigh. But there aren't many entries iirc so maybe I'll win anyway.
