That 90s bob is the same exact style that my mother cut my hair into when she cut it short as a punishment, so it's kinda not for me, thanks.

You definitely should not ask your hubs for Punishment Hair, I agree.

I am actually in the corner facing the wall right now--because I'm piggybacking off of someone's wi-fi and it's the only place I can get reception.

My hair is cut!
― just1n3, Thursday, 16 August 2012 20:24 (thirteen years ago)
do you like it? what does it look like??
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 16 August 2012 22:41 (thirteen years ago)
oh nothing v exciting - still long, lots of layers, bangs (properly cut) - just a better, nicer version of what i already had!

i went to an aveda salon, which was kind of pricey, and i had a senior stylist, but the whole thing felt very... uninspired?? like, she didn't really talk to me about my hair (or anything else) or ask more than 2 questions. i felt like i could've got pretty much the same quality of cut, for a quarter of the price, at super cuts.
it def still is an improvement, tho.
― just1n3, Thursday, 16 August 2012 22:47 (thirteen years ago)
I've probably mentioned this before but I haven't had my hair cut by anyone but me since 1987. I'm sure it was the combination of having naturally super super curly hair and the attitude of suburban Sydney hairdressers that finally broke me. It seemed like if I was interested in a style they would scoff and say 'It would never work on you!' and then proceed to cut my hair just like theirs which was usually that horrific girl mullet where the top of your head is short and curly while everything from the ears down is straight. i mean WTF. Here is the closest I can find through a quick GIS:http://portraited.com/wp-content/uploads/girl-with-mullet.jpg
I have had my hair styled though. One guy, at my request, teased my hair up to look exactly like the dark haired girl from Bananarama which was just fantastic:http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_RtMJ-VAHcnQ/THnqaujTNKI/AAAAAAAAA_A/nPjuCqfsgAs/s1600/Bananarama.jpgsame dude did my prom hair and it was so wack i washed it out and did it myself. Also someone did my hair for my wedding which was eh, you know, wedding hair.

do you know how long it takes to grow out a fucking girl mullet?????
This is saaaad! I don't know, maybe Aveda is an "institution" where people go because it's famous & expensive and not because they want to have a great rapport w their stylist? I've tried a lot of places and I only settled on this one stylist about two years ago. What's weird is I think I had to know my permanent style and know my SELF before I could help my stylist do my hair?? I take her lots of pictures, too, and then we talk about why my hair will or won't do the things in the photos.

i've cried in the chair before -- once because the haircut was bad and there were too many people standing around me trying to fix it, and once because my stylist was giving me straight talk about thinning and extensions.

Oh, I have totally cried in the chair. My hair has settled a bit and I like it a lot more now. Three different strangers told me they loved my haircut over the weekend and one made me give her the name of my stylist so I'm thinking that's all a good sign.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Monday, 20 August 2012 18:15 (thirteen years ago)
i love my hairdresser. I started seeing her about 8 years ago and from the first appointment she's always just known the way to make my hair look the best. and she's really cool and chill and not super hairdrsser-chatty/gossipy which I love.
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 20 August 2012 18:19 (thirteen years ago)
I had a really bad three years of haircuts when I lived in NC because no matter what I asked for, I always ended up walking out with some version of the 00s flipped out layered bob look.
http://www.hairfinder.com/hairstyles3/triple3.jpg
I would even say, "Please don't give me the flipped out hairstyle" and that is what I would always walk out with.
Somebody even did this to me once, color and all:

Is there an acceptable version of this cut in 2012?
― ljubljana, Monday, 20 August 2012 20:35 (thirteen years ago)
Home-dyeing my hair for a 90's party on Saturday. (It's taken me all month to get over the IDEA of a NINETIES party goddammit they weren't that long ago *cries*)
Aimed for that 90's cheap blue-black color that I used to love so dearly. Goddamn high quality hair dyes now, my "violet-black" looks salon-dyed! Even the cheap dyes aren't cheap-looking anymore, lol. I remember when I could reliably pay $5 for my hairdye and have it look like it cost $5 to boot, lol
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 14 September 2012 02:26 (thirteen years ago)
Resolved to dye from box due to new poor student status, looked at boxes, tried to match colour, became haircolourblind, gave up, pulled some greys

I will admit to kind of liking the "washed out and washed up" ennui-laden rattiness of the pink ones.

i wish i could find a stylist in little rock that bonded hair extensions with cold keratin fusion but it seems impossible not to mention impossibly expensive.

I remember the "geometricks" ad so clearly, it must have been in Seventeen a lot or something. So jeal.

I don't know if it was a geometricks but I had one of those crimper/waver things with interchangeable plates. I loved it at the time but I'm pretty sure it didn't actually work very well.

A couple months ago I found Salon Selectives on sale in Walgreens (must have relaunched it) alongside some Finesse. Smelling those two brands put me back about 25 years. SO WEIRD.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 21 September 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)
They're not the same scents though!! Both Finesse and Salon Selectives changed their scents iirc. The one I miss most is original Pantene.
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 21 September 2012 18:54 (thirteen years ago)
Huh. These were in the same old school bottles and they smelled exactly the same to me and I have a really good scent memory. Maybe they were special through back editions?
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 21 September 2012 18:55 (thirteen years ago)
maybe -- remember my shampoo archive (RIP)? i did some tests about 11 years ago and they were different then, but who knows?! RIP orig Pantene and Pert Plus too.
