Got hairs cut today. I like it, I think. Maybe she cut it a bit too short and it hits at a weird length. Idk. I think my face looks strange even though I like the actual cut. I am sick and probably just grumpy.

That's pretty! Classic E. your face does look a little funny - but self portraits do that sometimes!

GORGEROUS, full stop.

quincie, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

ummm GORGEOUS is what I meant, but GORGEROUS is even better.

quincie, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

Looks kind of like gougere, which are fucking amazing puffs of cheesy deliciousness and I love them like I love your hair cut!

quincie, Friday, 10 August 2012 22:10 (thirteen years ago)

lol. Thanks, lady! I am liking it today esp after washing an drying it myself. I just didn't like that partic pic.

Also realized I never posted about loving Laurel's new do, which I do.

i got the angled bob and it is a technically correct cut in every way but i think it might be a little shorter than i was prepared for? i mean, that's good, because it will grow out a little before school starts. i basically have been staring at it for the past hour, though. sometimes i wonder whether i might be the most narcissistic person in history.

horseshoe, Monday, 13 August 2012 23:28 (thirteen years ago)

at some point every haircut became an existential crisis for me--maybe i should work on that.

horseshoe, Monday, 13 August 2012 23:29 (thirteen years ago)

Pics or you didn't happen.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Monday, 13 August 2012 23:37 (thirteen years ago)

omg but she put all this MOUSSE in it i just don't know if the internet is ready

horseshoe, Monday, 13 August 2012 23:38 (thirteen years ago)

i need a drink

horseshoe, Monday, 13 August 2012 23:39 (thirteen years ago)

haha I'm sure it's awesome. Every haircut is an existential crisis for me too. It's OK. I put too much mousse in mine this morning and wile I love mousse a lot, too much is not a good thing.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Monday, 13 August 2012 23:40 (thirteen years ago)

I'm going to go buy beer around the corner and by the time I get back you better have at least located a bottle of wine and emailed me a photo.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Monday, 13 August 2012 23:41 (thirteen years ago)

Maybe you'll like it better once you wash out all the mousse!

I wore my hair down for the first time in like a month today and now I'm thinking I want to get it all cut off. Haha.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 13 August 2012 23:50 (thirteen years ago)

I have a dilemma (well two)

1) Booked a cut/color for Saturday. But am now not in quite the same financial position I was when I made the appointment and I need to decide on one or the other.
Hair's getting a bit long, not as curly as I like it.
BUT my color has almost entirely grown out and I'm very salt and pepper...it'd look super shiny with the color.
AGH I'm torn. I don't know which to choose? cut is cheaper obv.

2) Inexpensive shampoo recommendations for fine curly hair? Help! I normally use B&B thickening, but that $$ is just not gonna fly.

I'd probably go with cut and I say this as someone who gets antsy when I have a centimeter of "phantom roots" that nobody else can see but I know are there. A good cut can make a not ideal color situation a lot more palatable.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)

Also if it comes to it, you can always color it yourself. I mean you could cut it yourself, but speaking personally, my home color success rate is much higher than my home cutting success rate.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)

good call. I am def more comfortable with home coloring than cutting.

I used to cut my own bangs for years until I saw pictures of me with these terrible jagged bangs and commented on how bad they looked and Jeff was like, "Yeah, your bangs always look fucked up like that when you cut them. You really should stop doing that."

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:06 (thirteen years ago)

I love it when spouses keep that information under their hats for years. It's like a great surprise of 'oh yeah that thing looks really dumb fyi, I always thought that'

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

i got that talk about my bangs once too

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:20 (thirteen years ago)

All that time I thought I was being awesome and frugal and DIY and "Who needs hair cuts more than twice a year? I cut my own bangs!" Nope. Just looked like a fool who cut her own bangs with drug store hair scissors.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)

an old roommate and i used to cut our own hair in college. years later, we were like man, it's way better when someone else does it for you. in the interim i had several hair stylists who were like umm, who cut your hair?

rayuela, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)

(because in a quest to save money, i would sometimes cut it myself, sometimes go to the salon)

rayuela, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:23 (thirteen years ago)

God yes, my college roommates and I would cut each other's hair. We were all a bunch of long hairs so it was mostly just trimming the ends but still. I'm just grateful I'm a professional person with a salary who can afford a salon cut and color every eight weeks and has the gumption to go in for my complementary bang trim in between.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:25 (thirteen years ago)

My housemate just used to tip her head upside down over the bathtub and go at it. I never could cut my own hair for fear of snipping off an ear or soemthing

i am so often tempted to chop off my ponytail, even though it's just a nascent ponytail that i'm trying to grow out into a full ponytail

rayuela, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)

i hate to think what my hair would have suffered at my own hand if during my impoverished years one of my best friends hadn't been a great hair stylist

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:52 (thirteen years ago)

she did show me how to cut my own bangs properly but i tried it a couple of times and just, no...

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:53 (thirteen years ago)

oh. i did cut my hair once. in 1988 I took kitchen scissors and cut 3 fake 'razor stripes' into the side of my short haircut.

everyone in the whole world lol'd at me including my mum.

screw them all, I thought I looked badass.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 18:57 (thirteen years ago)

Haaaaaaaaaaa I shaved a ~ 2 inch patch over my ear once, kind of like this - http://www.z103.fm/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/rihanna-black-hair1.jpg - but 1000x more timid because I was a 13 year old living in a trailer in rural Delaware and not Rihanna and my mom was definitely not amused. I also think of the time I put a bunch of blue mascara in my hair to go see Mr. Mister at the Delaware State Fair and thought I looked TOTALLY BADASS. (spoiler: I looked like an idiot.)

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 19:04 (thirteen years ago)

delaware! i grew up in delaware.

rayuela, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 19:06 (thirteen years ago)

What? WHAT? Where???!?!? When?

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

SORRY I get a little excited when I meet people from Delaware.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

from first grade, till i left it all behind for college! newark than wilmington. you?? (i am not super familiar with the rural areas of DE since my mom never let me go anywhere or do anything)

xp ME TOO because no one is ever from Delaware, it's all, i drove through it on my way to x.

rayuela, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

my family has since moved away so i have no reason to ever return, and i think i have all these complicated feelings about delaware cuz i hated it so much when growing up but now it's like this place i'll never go back to.

rayuela, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

Southern DE, mostly Rehoboth Beach but a few other towns, and then I went to college at UD and continued to live in Newark until I finally got out for good in 2000 (minus three years living in California and Colorado, and nine horrible months living in Rehoboth again after I moved back from Colorado).

My family still lives there. My mom and step dad are from families that have lived in Delaware since white people came and took it from the Lenape, so they will never leave. I really don't think Sussex County has anything to offer me, and I definitely could not live there ever. I have more complicated feelings about Newark because I spent most of my 20s there and have some good memories, but I have intentionally disconnected from my friends there for ~reasons~ and haven't been back since I was in a wedding in 2005.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

ahh, memories

rayuela, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 19:40 (thirteen years ago)

My boyfriend in HS was from Newark - his dad was a professor at U of D. I went down there to visit a bunch of times and liked the town a lot in general. I have a lot of fond memories of it and the people I met there. That said I was probably stoned about 90% of the time I spent there so it might not have been as cool as I remember it being.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

Funny you say that, because I was definitely an enthusiastic user of substances during my time there. A couple years after I moved away, Jeff and I stopped in on the way back to the airport from my parents house because I wanted him to see this town that had taken on such mythical proportions and... it was kind of boring and a little dirty and there was nothing going on. I don't know if I was because I was sober or because I saw kind of seeing it through Jeff's eyes but it was edifying.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 21:33 (thirteen years ago)

for some reason the image of Jeff deadpannily and belatedly telling Jenny her homecut bangs are nagl is cracking me up a lot! (sorry Jenny!) I think it's because I wouldn't have predicted Jeff as a bangs connoisseur

horseshoe, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

I've been cutting my own hair for a couple years now (one super cuts-cut somewhere in the middle) and its starting to look pretty terrible. I think I've done an ok job of maintaining side swept bangs, but the grow so damn fast.

I want to go see robyns friend but she's so faaaaaaar away and I'm so lazy. I just wish there was a great stylist in my hood.

just1n3, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

My husband trims my hair, and it looks fine.

My hair's faded to orangey gray. I'm going to be taking some things in to the flea market, I'm hoping that I can sell enough to get a box of dye--I want burgandy this time.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 21:54 (thirteen years ago)

horseshoe, looking back (I went back and looked at the pic that prompted the revelation), he didn't have to be a connoisseur to notice that there was a problem there.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 21:58 (thirteen years ago)

aw I think I must have missed this era of Jenny bangs, because your hair always looked great ime!

horseshoe, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 22:05 (thirteen years ago)

justine you need to make a pilgrimage, like go to the beach and then get your hair done :)
i guess you guys don't have a car? sf seems somehow both more difficult and easier with a car

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 22:08 (thirteen years ago)

i need to go visit again; i like it there a lot
