Just got feet, don't got SHOES

i will rep for eccos (as always). they're kind of hit or miss (mostly miss), style-wise, but you might find something cute in there.

this is where i just defer to brand names -- ime clarks and born are both comfortable enough for all day and have some versatile cute options

i'd probably wear some kind of oxfords?

I have a bunch of friends who are mad about Merrells, super comfy apparently

also will rep for naturalizer in this deparment too (aerosoles maybe but their styles are more dressy/heely than casual walking)

I have 3x pairs of Merrells and they've all worn very weirdly. Like in two months it's OBVIOUS PRONATOR TERRITORY. I guess the heels wear fast? I'm still wearing them years on but I hate them. If you like hating yourself they're good. I would rec Borns any day over them. I have had a pair of Bornh boots for seven years and they're still my favorite.

Mands: Get classy oxfords, put insoles in 'em for distance walking, break them in before you go. Done.

None of this "comfort" shoe nonsense. Maybe that flies at home but not abroad. I don't care what Europeans do, do YOU want to have self-respect in London? You are a fashion icon! The Antonoff designs are pretty great, I've longed for several. I have it on good authority though that the transparent plastic ones are sweat factories (I know, plastic shoes? Who could have guessed?!) but the others are adorbs.

My Bass loafers which I love are kind of a losing game for me, sadly. They're made for narrower feet than I have so it took ages to break them in, and then they were broke down so fast afterward and now they give me terrible pains to stand in. So sad.

Laurel, you know me too well. I looked at Born, Merrells, Ecco and Clarks and everything was just too conservative for me. I have a pair of Bass heeled saddle shoes that are super comfy. So I bought these:

People have different feet. Mine are really needy if I'm going to be using them for like 9-11 hours a day.

^^^ i envy anyone who can wear a pretty shoe with just an insole added. i can't even get an insole into a pretty shoe, along with my foot.

I have very un-needy feet. My sister, though, has huge shoe woes so I get what y'all mean. I can trudge around for hours in a pair of flimsy Converse all-stars and be fine for the most part.

i'm ok with tennies, it's dress shoes that i can't deal with. i have to buy heels with built in padding toe to heel if i want to wear them for more than an hour. kinda sucks, but i like lots of other kinds of shoes so i can live with it. sometimes i'd like to look a little more oomphy though, and i just suffer through a long night, but NOT if i'm dancing.

my justin lacers have been very very very good to me in that regard.

She likes vintage-y skirts and wrap dresses, but pairs them with... Teva sandals for sort of a hippie college student look.

She doesn't really like shoe shopping in thrift stores, hates malls in general, and hasn't shopped much online. I think she kinda just doesn't know what to wear with them. Any recs? She used to have some black oxfords, but wore them til they disintegrated.

There are lots of cute oxfords for sale these days -- have her just try to look around on Zappos and see if anything's appealing. They have a good return policy too, so if they don't fit there's not a penalty.

Will she wear even a slight heel, or do they have to be sensible walking flats?

I would suggest she needs both, her shoe closet is pretty barren!

She actually did shop Zappo's and didn't find much; I think she's looking at <$100, which narrows it.

I just found these in the $60 range. She'll prob think they're too much like saddle shoes tho.

Those are cute! Maybe not comfortable enough for everyday wear (if that's what she's looking for) but if you're buying one pair of shoes to wear every day, going for a $$ shoe is probably your best bet. More wear per $1.

they need some breaking in BUT i can vouch for the quality of these boots if anyone would like to purchase some period footwear (not menses period, time period). also pretty comfortable and plenty roomy. a little big for my ankle actually, but i figure that time will wear them in properly and they'll be less stiff/fit better. i seriously cannot wait to wear them.

is the leather quite soft? they look really well-made

Not super soft, but soft enough. I think time will be kind to these boots. It's just weird because they are so white and NEW.

I just got some sweeeet fluevog boots I paid too much for in the mail. And they put another pair in the box, which was OMG FUN SURPRISE, but someone else's name on the receipt. SO I called them and I have to send them back. They were my size, too! Too good to be true.

I have some granny boots with that curvy heel – buckles instead of laces. I mostly wear them around the house playing dress up.

no way dude, I love those first two black pairs (brown shoes don't do it for me)

guh if I wasn't being so good about not spending money I would put those babies on my feetses

i got the ones with the western heel for maximum wearability -- the curvy heel is appealing to me, but i can't see myself having the wardrobe to wear it all the time
and if i am going to spend on these shoes they have to go with pants, be ok for work, etc.

i think i can wear these white boots to work under the right (modest) circumstances, right? i don't know why not.

totally. i dress pretty conservatively for work, but not so conservatively that i can't find a way to work these boots into the mix
