Oasis is killing it right now imo. Tried on both of these today, both looked nicer in person but not quite the right fit for my body shape:

Returned a skirt, received credit for entire $150 gc I'd used to purchase said skirt AND two dresses, heh. Shopping before they catch on, just in case..

I've just been to pick up my dress. I have no idea what other people will think, but I really really like it.

The designer I work for is doing a 30% off sale until end of August. To avoid being unforgivably spam, anyone who is interested can reach out to me if you'd like for details.

going to a silly girls' night out in a few weeks where we must all wear ridiculous animal prints, I bought this "leopard" one:

wowzers

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 19:45 (eleven years ago) link

it's weird but i like it
i find that wearing dresses like that is kinda hard with shorter hair because there's a surprisingly lot more skin showing if hair isn't distracting the eye/braion from everything else on display

maybe that's just me being self-conscious though

my god i am really on top of the typos today

My hair is pretty long now! It touches my shoulder blades. But yeah, I have definite ideas about which looks work with short hair and which with long. I am going to hair spray it up like I'm in Ratt.

I figure I should step it up after only being 1/2 sparkly during the Sparkle Party:

this is my other option which is more demure but I'm worried that belted bit might not be stretchy enough, damn the beer belly

http://www.forever21.com/images/model_front/00049287-05.jpg

I might actually wear that one again though

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 20:09 (eleven years ago) link

i'm just thanking the stars that my friends don't tell me what to wear
i don't even know people irl who do that, i don't think?! is this a bachelorette party or something?

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 20:12 (eleven years ago) link

Although it is not a thing I would wear, I quite like that first dress. Especially if you work some metal hair.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 20:20 (eleven years ago) link

no, it's just for fun. No one's forcing me to go and as you can see, last time I went kind of low key about my sparkles. I felt underdressed though, so this time I thought I'd go for it!

The last time this happened was February, and I see most of these ladies at pub nights and whatnot, but sometimes I just want to wear something ridiculous and dance. And my shy husband(/most of them in our friend group) takes a LOT of convincing to go dance :P

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 20:30 (eleven years ago) link

I hope I can get the metal hair to work! I'm a fidgeter so my hair always ends up smoothed down by constantly touching it.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 20:32 (eleven years ago) link

My hair is ridic long right now. Almost to my waist. And I need new dresses. The ASOS one was too big for me and looked like a sack. :(

homosexual II, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 17:08 (eleven years ago) link

that's too bad, it was so cute!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 17:49 (eleven years ago) link

I'm thinking of stocking up on Asos. Looking at petite dresses on sale and they are lolsome SHORT. Maybe cos the sale stuff is the summer merch. But has anyone tried their petites? I am quite short from waist to shoulder so non-petite dresses normally bag around my arm height.

Tall people: do Asos regular sizes fit you in height and length?

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Monday, 27 August 2012 20:42 (eleven years ago) link

I am not tall (5'6") but I find their regular size dresses fit me in length as expected. I'm also talking Asos Curve.

carl agatha, Monday, 27 August 2012 21:02 (eleven years ago) link

Whoah BUMMER, their Asos Curve clothes are on the whole WAY better than the reg sizes.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Monday, 27 August 2012 21:04 (eleven years ago) link

I mean, in style. Although I would say that because 2/3 of their regular dresses have cut-outs so large and numerous that half the dress is missing.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Monday, 27 August 2012 21:05 (eleven years ago) link

use code 'extra10' at checkout for 10% off, although not sure if that's just sale items.

Thank you ASOS Curve for having a bunch of Sharon Stone-esque Erotic Thriller clothes right when I am conserving every extra dime for my UK trip in two weeks. :(

That link goes to the front page! I must see the dress.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:31 (eleven years ago) link

that herringbone/floral dress is pleasantly 90s imo

the most astonishing writer on ilx (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:23 (eleven years ago) link

lotsa cute dresses on asos, but i don't really need any more special occasion wear because i don't have that many special occasions
where do you guys wear these dresses? are people getting more dressed up to just go out on a normal weekend than they used to?

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

maybe i am a slob?

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

yeah I think the reason I never ordered from ASOS is that everything seems too fancy for office, and because I have worked in offices for so long 98% of what I buy is office appropriate and maybe one crazy, sparkly NYE dress a year. but then I wear all those office clothes out at night too. basically, I am boring.

oh I got that crazy leopard print dress in the mail and it looks pretty great in a terrible way. bringing my inner drag queen out!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:33 (eleven years ago) link

I think I may be. I just bought a New Order shirt. I am too old to be buying this shit! It's very pretty though and will be nice under a cardigan with jeans. No more casual stuff though - I need nicer adult clothes. They're all so expensive and I just hate trying things on. I'm a shitty shopper. I still have teh ASOS dress I bought in the spring sitting in the top of my closet. I never returned it or had it tailored to fit so it has just sat there unworn.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:34 (eleven years ago) link

My office is pretty causal too. I'm wearing a denim pencil shirt and a cute top today with flat sandals. It would be strange if I came in any more dressed up than this. People would think I had an interview or something.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:36 (eleven years ago) link

Some of the dresses on Asos Curve are fancy but not uniformly so. I bought this dress to wear to a wedding this weekend, but I'll totally wear it to work once it's sweater weather (to cover the back, which I think is not entirely work appropriate).

Basically any dress that's at the knee or longer and not sequinned or body con I'll wear to work. Tights, a cardigan, and flats can take the shine off just about any dress.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:36 (eleven years ago) link

i guess part if it is that i
* cannot dress sexy for work (carl is right though, cardigans/flats are like sexy dress antidote)
* do not go clubbin
* do dress to impress my date, but my date has known me for 13+ years now and has never paid much attention to my clothes anyway so that's kind of a lost cause
* if i am going to a show alone: no sexy dress; if i am going to show with male friend (this is usually the case): no sexy dress

when am i supposed to wear more than one sexy dress per year? i usually save it for the annual christmas party but i would love to manufacture more opps because those dresses are cute!
