i was just looking for something on this thread and came across these posts and lolled for real:
I've never waxed or tweezed my eyebrows. Never seen the need to do so. Is it still common nowadays?

A girl at work was asking what my favorite stores were and when I mentioned Sephora, she said "oh I don't see you wearing a lot of makeup and being into it."
Um.

I just learned this -almost all makeup has a little jar logo on it and a figure representing the number of months it's safe to use a product - I have a blush that's 36M, mascara that is 6M, etc. Not that I really pay attention to these things (I used my Mom's blush from the 70s in the 90s) but it's still cool & boggles me that I've never noticed.

You're blowing my mind.

Haha I'm afraid to look.

I just bought another drugstore mascara. It sucks less than my last drugstore mascara?
― check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:17 (thirteen years ago)
Whyyyyyyy do they make the TUBES so CHUNKY? I don't have unlimited room in my make-up bag!
― check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:18 (thirteen years ago)
I agree, the chunky tubes are so annoying. I definitely used to use mascara for a year at a time - living life on the edge! Now I have too much so I don't need to anymore. Once I start needing to buy this stuff again I'll go back to my miserly ways.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:21 (thirteen years ago)
What kind, Laurel? I still rep hard core for Voluminous. Bought one of those Maybaline the Falsies or something last week just to see and nope - Voluminous still wins.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:23 (thirteen years ago)
Maybelline, rather
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:24 (thirteen years ago)
also, I read a trick last week about declumpifying mascara once applied with a clean toothbrush. I have been using this to moderate success, might buy a "straight across" toothbrush for further experimentation as the one I have now is the multi layered kind? I think the bristles don't all hit my lashes.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)
Covergirl Lashblast Fusion. It's...adequate, and the brush actually seems to cover and separate well, and the formula doesn't give me black spider clumps. So actually I should probably be more positive about it. I might just be really tired.

Wherever I read that women in their late 30s shouldn't wear powder anymore, I have really internalized that as a Truth, so I bought some Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation last night. I don't feel like I'm wearing foundation, so that's good, but I don't know if it's doing anything. I refused on principle to buy the expensive "buffing brush" recommended by the Sephora person. Also she sold me a shade that was a lot darker than I thought I needed. I need one of you to come look at my face outside in the direct sunlight.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:50 (thirteen years ago)
Other than a couple of free samples of Benefit foundation, I haven't bought foundation since I can remember so I had to throw myself on the mercy of the Sephora woman who stood there telling me she hated the feeling of heavy foundation on her face while wearing so much foundation that it was visible from space.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:52 (thirteen years ago)
Hah! Some of those Sephora people really scare me. I will never give up my powder; society can pry it from my dry, wrinkled hands. I have Shiny Nose Syndrome and even powder barely helps, but it makes me feel better.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)
I have recently noticed that powder makes my shiny nose shinier. If I wear that Tarte primer I was going on about a few weeks ago, or nothing, I might use blotting papers (I fucking love blotting papers) once if I'm going somewhere after work. If I wear powder, I use them two or three times throughout the day. My crackpot theory is that it dries my face out a little and makes it produce more oil.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)
Which isn't to say that is the case for you, I should add. It's just a thing I've noticed about myself lately.
jenny, do you think of me as a person who wears a lot of foundation? (y is an ok answer, no feelings hurt)
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:59 (thirteen years ago)
the Sephora woman who stood there telling me she hated the feeling of heavy foundation on her face while wearing so much foundation that it was visible from space.
hahahaaa! i know, right!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:00 (thirteen years ago)
the sephora mask, i call it
It's quite possible! I should give blotting papers a try. I always wear foundation though.. I load my face up with shit applied in such a way that, I hope, it looks like I barely wear nothing at all. :) Addictions..
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:01 (thirteen years ago)
xp
Someone is going to have to pry my Covergirl pressed powder from my cold dead hands one day. I"m weirdly obsessive about powdering my nose.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:03 (thirteen years ago)
Amanda, I honestly had not about your foundation habits prior to this very moment, so I am going to say no. Also good job - whatever you're doing looks very natural! (What are you using? And also let's go to the costume store sometime soon and you can look at my face outside in the sunlight and evaluate my foundation.)
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)
E - that's the stuff that hooked me! Love that little green disc.
oh, hilariously, I've been asked to put together my top 5 recs for one of our marketing department's FB pages. Luckily I love the brand (B0urj01s - not in the US afaik) but it's going to be weird seeing my smiling face pushing product!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)
I was wearing foundation for a while because I thought I had some red blotches but I think I'm going to stop. It was making me look too pale and the blotches have faded enough since using the Retin-A that I can use just concealer again now.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)
B0urj01s is sold at Sephora here but not in drugstores.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:05 (thirteen years ago)
My favorite lipstick ever was a B0urj01s one called cinnamon kisses (but all fancy and french like) and I think they discontinued it because I couldn't find any in the UK last time I looked. It was a sad day.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:06 (thirteen years ago)
oh wow, cool! I rec their foundation then. Beige tube, red lid, so creamy and covery and velvety. Will see what kind of substituion we have for cinnamon kisses! (tx for googleproofing with me :)

OK!! And yeah, I wear foundation almost all the time I am in public with people I know (out socially, at work). If I am going to the market, def not. If I am sitting around the house, no. I use Clinique superbalanced, whatever that means. for some reason i am finding this conversation really embarrassing but i can't quite figure out why
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:12 (thirteen years ago)
wait it wasn't cinnamon kiss it was cinnamon pink! I think this is it: http://www.amazon.com/Bourjois-Pour-Plumping-Lipstick-Cannelle/dp/B003O54OOG
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:13 (thirteen years ago)
My favorite lip thing ever is Cover Girl Wetslicks Amazemint in Red Riot. It's difficult to find (is it even made any more?) but I found some in a bargin bin a couple of weeks ago.
I've been wearing regular powder (LA Colors, the only thing I can afford) instead of powder foundation for a while. It doesn't work as well, but it's better than nothing. I wear it (and any powder) only on the T-zone.
My therapist thought that yesterday was the first session that I had with her where I was wearing lipstick. I've been wearing lipstick (lip gloss, actually) to every session. (She also thought that this was the first session where my hair was clean. I've been showering and washing my hair before every session.)

i swear to fucking god, if someone doesn't start naming affordable women's cosmetics with a little dignity we are going down a dark road
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:16 (thirteen years ago)
lol
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:16 (thirteen years ago)
xp Maybe wearing foundation felt like an open secret or something you're, not ashamed of, but not comfortable acknowledging? Like now we know you don't have naturally flawless skin or something? I don't know. It's okay though! We don't have to talk about it! You're great!
Hahaha dignity in cosmetics naming yes please.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:16 (thirteen years ago)
LASH BLAST always struck me as a particularly unfortunate name for a product. LASH BLAST!!!!
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)
I felt pretty ridiculous typing the words "lash," blast," and "fusion" in proximity to one another as if they meant something. So, otm.
xp LLLOOOOOLLL
― check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)
xp phew, I was having trouble finding cinnamon kiss on google, hah! who knows how close I am depending on monitor settings etc but it loks not too dissimilar to SweetKiss #43, I have a few unused ones at home, maybe we'll get lucky and I'll have that shade! http://alipstickeffect.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/bourjois-sweet-kiss-43-rose-pomponne.jpg
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:19 (thirteen years ago)
hueg sorry!
The naming dignity is a good point - but I also kind of like how ridiculous the names they can come up with are. My lipgloss today is called BLAZE. Sounds tough!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:20 (thirteen years ago)
Hmmmm maybe! Does that have sparkle in it? It was definitely a flat color. Not matte as in dryed out matte but it didn't have any shimmer or sparkle. Probably worth a shot though. :)
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:20 (thirteen years ago)
I held my tongue for Lashblast Fusion, but Lipslicks sent me over the edge.
Honestly this is why I can stomach buying Sephora store brand over drugstore because I feel so gross after being in the cosmetics aisles at Target.
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:21 (thirteen years ago)
My lipcloss today is called Blistex original formula because the entire area from my upper lip line to the bottom of my nostrils is so chapped from being sick that my skin is cracked and bleeding. Yep, it looks just about as hawt as it sounds.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)
could have a slight shimmer, or I sit in a sunny part of the office. I rubbed it on my hand and it looks fairly matte! Will speak to the BJS marketing girl when she's back on Monday, she may have other ideas!
awww the blistex days. at least those chapped lips are probably red! haha
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:25 (thirteen years ago)
xxp Flat like in eggshell paint, not matte paint?
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 17 August 2012 15:28 (thirteen years ago)
man I'm out of my element! I only wear lipgloss or lip markers.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:29 (thirteen years ago)
Christine I know nothing about paint but that sounds like it might be a reasonable comparison.
