So I bought 2 eshatki (sp ) dresses and my god the fabric feels horrific. The cut on the bodice of both is perfection though. I will say the skirt seems a lot longer than predicted and has maybe twice the required material. May have to get some kind of sewing/tailor type person to remedy this

My fabric is usually okay but my most recent one was also weirdly long! Company of giants I suppose?
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 7 July 2012 13:16 (thirteen years ago)
The fabric on the one I have is fine but it's definitely an unfortunate length. I will be taking it to be shortened before wearing.

target has some super cute dresses right now - i bought 3 today, including a maxi dress, which i never thought in a million years i would ever own, but it's kind of not as unflattering as i imagined!
― just1n3, Sunday, 8 July 2012 00:59 (thirteen years ago)
and lol @ ytth: he was with me while i was looking through the dresses, pointing out ones he liked, and bc he is v helpful and remembered things i have told him about clothes and what i like and dislike, he helpfully pointed out that the dress i was looking at had an "emperor" waist. so many lols.
― just1n3, Sunday, 8 July 2012 01:01 (thirteen years ago)
vowed today to buy more dresses...my mission this week, should I choose to accept

lol @ emperor waist

In love with Modcloth's 100% cotton dresses.

Mission: Dresses was a success! I haven't purchased any summer dresses in over 3 years so this was my splurge.
This one is more of a night-time dress than a day dress, but omg so simple and flattering I had to have it. http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/calvin-klein-dress-sleeveless-pleated-a-line?ID=536330&PartnerID=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc=LINKSHARE-_-4-_-34-_-MP434&LinkshareID=q5QZHUbCIj8-YFgHnbVRvKlR2sUh3FdTog

I also got a black lightweight jersey dress, with a summery pattern around the hem to disguise the fact that YES I bought another black dress...I'm just not quite ready for ALL color all the time.
And one longshot. A pale green sheath dress covered in tiny sheer fluttery ruffles. The whole thing moves so beautifully when it's on, I couldn't resist. No idea where I'm going to wear it. But it was so cool looking and so on clearance I couldn't help it. Lol.

Can I also just: RAGGH plus size clothing designers WHY are 99.9% of your prints so UGLY and loud and big and awful? Why is it so hard to find simple dresses?
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 9 July 2012 02:53 (thirteen years ago)
I know! I was thinking yesterday though it would be amazing to have a website that let you select prints (possibly upload your own?), cut, fabric, etc. Because I have a bunch of print ideas in mind, but I hate depending on the whims of the designer or buyer!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 9 July 2012 03:24 (thirteen years ago)
Also that those are all beautiful, I wouldn't have been able to resist the red dress myself. but I would wear that to work!
You know, I might wear it to work actually...the closed neckline would make me feel a bit less exposed than my other summer dresses. I have some bejewelled sandals that'd go nicely.
I like your website idea ffm!
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 9 July 2012 03:57 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah! Too bad I have no imitative in taking THAT on! :)
And the red dress seems plenty appropriate and just the delicious amount of fancy for work wear.

The skirt is quite full, has a lovely swing to it :D

hahaha, sigh, it does seem like there is some sort of strange hivemind that shares the belief, "large ladies want to dress like dental assistants." also, carl agatha's lane bryant rant to thread.

eShakti is pretty much stalking me buthttp://img.eshakti.com/bannerimages/mailer9-7-12.jpghttp://img.eshakti.com/bannerimages/mailer5-7-12.jpg
good chance you can combine; i've combined similar offers in the past

words i never expected to type in my life: i am officially a maxi dress convert
― just1n3, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:40 (thirteen years ago)
me TOO! I got an eShakti dress that was way longer than I expected but I felt like a princess all day in it!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 12 July 2012 02:35 (thirteen years ago)
i don't know if this actually works, but the idea is blowing my mind (found on pinterest):
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and — ta da! — static is gone.
― just1n3, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 04:28 (thirteen years ago)
whoa
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 04:29 (thirteen years ago)
omg I wonder if I could weigh blowy skirts down in the same manner. A+
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 04:35 (thirteen years ago)
Just pin them directly to your legs
― kinder, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 17:51 (thirteen years ago)
owww
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 18:20 (thirteen years ago)
why would you suggest that? that really hurt!
Wait, pantyhose under slacks?
― tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 22:44 (thirteen years ago)
I was wondering that too! That's too much work for me.
I think I have Stockholm syndrome from eShakti, they ship me dresses late and I have a few I have to get fitted and like sunny(?) upthread said, they manage somehow to use way more fabric than you think they need.. but then they go and give me a $45 gift card to apologize for it taking a month for me to get my dresses.
Also I think they are trolling me:http://img.eshakti.com/clothImages/CL0024164P.jpg

Want!!
― kinder, Thursday, 19 July 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)
Me too, kinda! But I think they WANT me to want it, then won't send it to me for six months or some BS.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 19 July 2012 17:59 (thirteen years ago)
have been wearing my new dresses to work
although I will admit to being TERRIFIED of showing so much skin at work with my strappier dresses and covering up with a zip up top (also I sit under the AC duct and my cubicle is like antarctica)
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:23 (thirteen years ago)
but still, it's nice to feel pretty :D
for sure, yes!office AC does wreck the summer-dress look, but taking the sweater off after leaving work is some clark-kent-to-superman business

new favourite http://cache.theoutnet.com/images/products/325926/325926_ou_l.jpg
I am also one of those who sits under an office a/c duct. Coworkers don't seem to understand how cold it really is when the thing blows directly on you, mine tend to be scornful of people who complain about it (the French woman, who also sits under an a/c and who everyone already thinks is strange, is so bold as to actually turn the a/c off). I just put on a jacket, but then I get made fun of. 'But you're Canadian!' they say. 'That doesn't mean I like being cold,' I grumble.

oh that dress is A+++
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 30 July 2012 12:54 (thirteen years ago)
I don't like eShakti. It's all so cutesy. I want trampy. I want a Bebe dress. Why the fuck don't they make fat sizes. ;_;
― homosexual II, Monday, 30 July 2012 17:50 (thirteen years ago)
does asos curve make any trampy dresses? or is it just another kind of subpar plus line?
― horseshoe, Monday, 30 July 2012 17:52 (thirteen years ago)
i don't know if this is exactly what you have in mind, mandee, but i bet you'd look amazing in it: http://images.asos.com/inv/media/4/6/4/8/2408464/black/image1xl.jpg
― horseshoe, Monday, 30 July 2012 17:53 (thirteen years ago)
okay this pencil skirt! ://images.asos.com/inv/media/9/3/1/8/2238139/image4xl.jpg
might be veering more into my taste than yours. also the dresses do seem more demure than their straight-size line, which is a super-annoying thing about plus lines in general.
― horseshoe, Monday, 30 July 2012 17:56 (thirteen years ago)
whoops http://images.asos.com/inv/media/9/3/1/8/2238139/image4xl.jpg
I just completed another eShakti survey (that's why they give me those monthly discount codes) and this little number is coming in the fall and I MUST HAVE IT:
http://www.eshakti.com/cpanel/ProductView.aspx?Id=CL0024142
ironically, very similar to the skirt horseshoe just posted ;)
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 30 July 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)
this was another of their new ones which I might also be up for except they want to price it at $90 :P http://www.eshakti.com/cpanel/ProductView.aspx?Id=CL0024007
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 30 July 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)
I love both of those things!
Yeah, the plus size line is far more demure than the straight sizes. So I guess if I lost 30 pounds and was able to fit into a UK18 it would then be okay/suitable for me to wear skimpy clothes. NOT COOL.
― homosexual II, Monday, 30 July 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)
mandee: so so otm; i do not want to look like Maria from the Sound of Music, i want foxy dresses.
Lex FFM: those two are rad. would shop w/u!
― sarahell, Monday, 30 July 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)
i'd be thrilled to wear a dirndl every day to work, but that's a work uniform lookwhen it's time for foxytime, i wanna look foxy too!
speaking of dresses, i wore a white lace trapeze dress the other day and someone shouted "call me babydoll" OR possibly "call me maybe, dog" at me from a moving car
― nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Monday, 30 July 2012 23:14 (thirteen years ago)
Sarahell: I haven't been shopping in months because it's so hard to find size 16 anywhere for decent prices. I'm all online. So I guess we can, heh!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 30 July 2012 23:39 (thirteen years ago)
it's so hard to find size 16 anywhere for decent prices
my problem as well
― sarahell, Tuesday, 31 July 2012 00:50 (thirteen years ago)
Then we are competitors, we can't shop together. ;) Alas!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 01:24 (thirteen years ago)
we can join forces and lobby for more awesome size 16 options
― sarahell, Tuesday, 31 July 2012 02:05 (thirteen years ago)
True! Purchasing power! But I'm lazy and get "close enough" cute dresses from eShakti :)
