xp hm not sure it's the same brand but must basically be the same stuff

kinder, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:55 (thirteen years ago)

xp the brand is GOSH? i might check it out, even though i recently resolved to use up my hair products before buying any more. saltwater hair sounds too tempting.

i just recently bought eye primer after the discussion here, just a cheap one from the drugstore, and hey, it totally works! thanks everyone :)

rayuela, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:56 (thirteen years ago)

xp I looked at that stuff too! There were two different varieties of that same brand and I couldn't tell if they were difft colors or just minutely different formulas. Went for the GOSH one because it had less packaging, in the end.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 6 July 2012 18:57 (thirteen years ago)

ive used that got2b stuff too, its great for volumizing. i always use too much though

I got some of this Matt Fat stuff in England at Christmas and it was pretty effective.

http://www.britstore.co.uk/photos/Lee_Stafford_Matt_Fat_Hair_Powder_10g.jpg

Unfortunately it was too effective on 1st day hair and not effective enough on 2nd day hair so I wound up tossing it.

The powder to liquid thing was pretty great though - it was like playing around with a science project.

oh aveda has some of that powder that turns into lotion craziness, it does work pretty well but I am definitely interested in something less expensive!

omg i finally went to the Sephora in downtown Montreal today! it opened about a month ago - flagship store for Canada, so the saleswoman told me. it was so chill in there, like no other Sephora I've been in. maybe just because it was Thursday early afternoon? i don't know, but, eesh, i kinda wish i didn't love Sephora so much... lol

i bought:
- new mascara (the kind i always get: clinique naturally glossy jet black)
- Dior addict lipstick in this really pretty bright pink colour (762) that goes well with my newly darkened hair. yaay pink! :)
- clinique city block, because i need a water-resistant spf for my face and i've always liked this one, so hey
- clinique airbrush concealer/illuminator - i was thinking about getting touche eclat but didn't feel like spending $50 (o_O) and i liked the feel of the clinique one more. WHY have i not used an illuminator before??? wow

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:31 (thirteen years ago)

I went to Nordstrom Rack yesterday and they had Urban Decay Primer Potion in the old-style packaging for wither $8 or $9, I forget which. Sweet deal imo.

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

That is a very sweet deal.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

well, i think i didn't use illuminators because i thought they'd cause shine and sparkle and i didn't want that look. but brightening! is a good look

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

wow super good deal
xp

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

How do you use an illuminator? Innarested.

I got some tinted moisturizer – closest I have ever come to foundation or anything. I can't tell if I like how it looks or not. It does even out my skin tone but it highlights all the scars on my face I think, and skin flakes. I can't really tell which is better.

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:35 (thirteen years ago)

I got the Mayebline BB cream. It's OK but I think maybe I liked the Garnier better. It's SPF 30 though which is good.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)

i was sort of a fan of tinted moisturizer with SPF when i was in my teens and early 20s and my skin was young and constantly glowy anyway. but i still preferred moisturizer + a sheer foundation with SPF in it (i used Clinique Almost Makeup for so many years - I don't think they even make it anymore? i didn't see it at sephora anyway, though i looked). I think with separate products you have more of a chance of getting something suits your skin best. even though the double-duty thing is appealing. but to me a moisturizer needs to sink in, whereas a foundation shouldn't so much.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:40 (thirteen years ago)

I think foundation just makes me neurotic! I walk around worrying my face is melting off or something. I had a dream the other night I was wearing it and I looked in a mirror and it looked like I was wearing crackle paint.

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:20 (thirteen years ago)

I'm finding since I switched to the Cerave face cleanser/moisturiser that I break out for a few days after I've worn makeup

wondering if I need to switch makeups, but idk what to switch to.
using smashbox primer and clinique super-balanced (clinique has a nice green tint to their cream chamois that counters my flushed face)

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

I hate foundation. I can't even cope w/ tinted moisturizer. I feel like as I get older I'm going to have to dealwithit.gif since I'm going to be too dried out for powder but it's hard to imagine not feeling like I have... stuff on my face.

I did find a face primer that I think is the best face primer ever (when it's hot I use primer instead of powder, which somehow doesn't make me feel gross and face-suffocated? I don't know it's weird): Tarte 12 hour pore something clean slate primer whatever - http://www.sephora.com/clean-slate-poreless-12-hr-perfecting-primer-P310018. Even as hot as it's been, I use it in the morning and I don't have to blot! All day! I keep blotting papers in my junk bowl on my desk (the usual - blotting papers, gum, post-it notes, bobby pins, tape flags, rubber finger) and normally blot once, sometimes twice if I'm going somewhere after work. It's so great. And it feels goooood.

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:25 (thirteen years ago)

How long have you been using the smashbox primer? That breaks some people out, IIRC.

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:25 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i can't use primer at all

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:26 (thirteen years ago)

I only just started using it again within the last month or so

hmm maybe that's my problem

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:27 (thirteen years ago)

I feel like silicone is a bad thing to put on one's face, but man it does exactly what I want makeup to do, which is even my face out without making me look like I'm wearing makeup. It's hard to give up.

I also FINALLY found a red lipstick I like. I think we talked about this before? True reds tend to look fuchsia on me (LL witnessed the iconic Cherries in the Snow turn into some weird pink purple on my lips a few Halloweens ago) but I picked up Revlon's Lip Butter in Cherry Tart and it's really perfect. I think the secret for me was going for something on the berry end of red since "berry" colors tend to look pretty good on me.

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

or at least i can't wear it for very long or my pores get clogged
xp

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

hurm maybe I'll try sans primer for a while

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

i'm totally going to sephora tomorrow for my annual binge. i've been looking forward to this for MONTHS!
going to get some fun stuff, some stuff to make going to work tolerable

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:29 (thirteen years ago)

Ooo will you tell us what you get?

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

loreal's color riche in true red (I *think*) is the best red I've come across so far, personally.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:31 (thirteen years ago)

indeed i will. am thinking of some more interesting lipwear since it has been a few years since i bought actual lipstick. that and something new for the eyebrows?

my skin has also been a real mess lately, so i gotta do something about that :(

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:32 (thirteen years ago)

The last red that even came close was a Loreal of that make, but on the orange end of things. I had to go orange red to avoid the bizarre fuchsia effect, and it looked okay, but not what I wanted out of a red lipstick, you know?

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:33 (thirteen years ago)

Oh wow look at the first Makeup Alley review on True Red:

Wow! True Red is........truly red! Red lipstick usually turns out to be a dark shade of pink/purple on my lips so I am VERY pleased! I also love the smell of L'oreal lipsticks and find they leave a nice stain behind even after the lipstick has rubbed off. Will definitely re-buy!

I am not alone!!!

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:33 (thirteen years ago)

Wow, a lot of reviews are saying the same thing. brb going to the drug store

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

Wow I am full of Wow about lipstick WOW Wowwowowowowow

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

I bought it for my halloween silent movie person costume and was like WHOA this is really red and then started using the 'put it on with yr finger' technique and voila me and my kissable red lips wee

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

I wish I could wear red. :/

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:45 (thirteen years ago)

why can you not?

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:47 (thirteen years ago)

or can't you, or w/e

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

prob for the same reason I can't wear foundation

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:49 (thirteen years ago)

It draws attention to my big bottom lip which becomes comical and I wind up looking like a tarted up cartoon.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:50 (thirteen years ago)

ENBB don't you dare spend another $50 on bb ever! We distribute BB cream & my coworkers are all still ordering $15 bottles of the original Korean stuff on eBay. :) I have the name at work so I can find that out tomorrow.. I mean to order some when the freebie I got from work runs out.

I wear primer, foundation and powder all the time, heh. But I am a junkie.

Also fyi I get a 50% disc on s4mshb0x (lol google proofing) so if anyone had a big ticket item I could help. :)

chanel lipstick smells like cucumbers

the most astonishing writer on ilx (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 July 2012 02:14 (thirteen years ago)

true!

i have a very pale pink chanel lippy -- I bought it online and thought it would be much darker so I don't wear it much, but it's gorgeously hefty like my grandma's old lipsticks, I love it.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 20 July 2012 02:39 (thirteen years ago)

I love cucumbers. I just ate one for breakfast.

carl agatha, Friday, 20 July 2012 12:31 (thirteen years ago)

I have fallen in love with pricey but fabulous Chanel Vitaluminaire foundation. Bastards better not discontinue it! Srsly stuff is magical imo.

quincie, Friday, 20 July 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

this is the BB cream I mentioned upthread that my (imo, knowledgeable) coworkers swear by, fyi.
