We were always watched very carefully to make sure that we were doing things just like the instructor did.

I spent most of my Special PE time helping the coach/physical therapist with the other kids since I was far and away the most physically capable one in the classes--I was usually the only one that could walk unassisted, forex.

Have we discussed the national aerobics competitions? And Alan Thicke singing the theme song?

tokyo rosemary, Thursday, 14 June 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

Mum was an aerobics nut. We had Jane Fonda workout albums, the original Jazzercize albums, a vhs tape where you did dog-firehydrant lifts to Counting the Beat by the Swingers....and classes 3 times a week with Berlin's "No More Words" & The Cars "I Know Tonight"
Her instructor had the best leotards, she was amazing.

if i can imagine counting the beat before target destroyed it would be a great workout song for sure

we had denise someone or other who looked so insanely high it was at first a distraction then a much easier solution than watching her video

It's jarring. I also am annoyed by the "women can't drive" subtext.

carl agatha, Monday, 2 July 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

that's just awful in every possible way

i wonder how many are caused by JUST DOING OTHER SHIT BESIDES CONCENTRATING ON DRIVING in general. infuriating

UK has a few of these violent 'please use your seat-belt' type ads so this is fairly in line with that sort of thing. e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKHY69AFstE

kinder, Monday, 2 July 2012 20:59 (fourteen years ago)

that scared the crap out of me

sidebar: I had a roommate who used to do her nails in traffic, I yelled at her a lot for it.

kinder, Monday, 2 July 2012 21:00 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I was going to say that in context I don't think it's a big deal. I've seen ads about texting and driving and I don't really see how this is different. It is a thing that I see a lot of people doing while driving which is bad news. I feel like a PSA is totally appropriate if a bit shockingly graphic.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Monday, 2 July 2012 23:33 (fourteen years ago)

but it's a volkswagon ad!!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 2 July 2012 23:49 (fourteen years ago)

that's more my ish with it

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 2 July 2012 23:50 (fourteen years ago)

It's not a commercial. I think it's a PSA that was funded by Volkswagon. I don't have a problem with that.

this one made me choke up a little!

chupacabra seeds (Abbbottt), Tuesday, 3 July 2012 00:26 (fourteen years ago)

Whoah holy shit that VW ad.

Uhhhh NEW TOPIC PLEASE.

I just bought the WEIRDEST product! I was looking for dry shampoo and ended up with GOSH "Pump Up the Volume" hair powder. It shakes out of this little container looking like a white powder but when you rub your hands it gets...WET. I'm not kidding! I think the "powder" is tiny bubbles of something! It's a very weird sensation, to be sure. About $10 at drugstore.

Seems to have worked great, though? My hair is on 2nd day after washing so it was getting a bit oily & limp and I wanted big, messy, saltwater hair today. Success!

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 6 July 2012 18:50 (thirteen years ago)

Oh wait, that might be the stuff my hairdresser was showing me the other day! It seemed kind of miraculous! Sculpts/fixes the hair pretty well I think?
I did say it seemed like the only hair product that's ever worked on me i.e. hawaian sea water :)

kinder, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:54 (thirteen years ago)

I tried something similar – with terrible teenagery packaging
http://feistyfrugalandfabulous.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Got2b_Powderful.jpg

goet 2 be

But it works p well! Only $6. Nice for fuffing things back up after I take off my helmet. It makes a minor difference really but I'm blaming that on my hair, which loves gravity.

chupacabra seeds (Abbbottt), Friday, 6 July 2012 18:55 (thirteen years ago)

xp hm not sure it's the same brand but must basically be the same stuff

kinder, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:55 (thirteen years ago)

xp the brand is GOSH? i might check it out, even though i recently resolved to use up my hair products before buying any more. saltwater hair sounds too tempting.

i just recently bought eye primer after the discussion here, just a cheap one from the drugstore, and hey, it totally works! thanks everyone :)

rayuela, Friday, 6 July 2012 18:56 (thirteen years ago)

xp I looked at that stuff too! There were two different varieties of that same brand and I couldn't tell if they were difft colors or just minutely different formulas. Went for the GOSH one because it had less packaging, in the end.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 6 July 2012 18:57 (thirteen years ago)

ive used that got2b stuff too, its great for volumizing. i always use too much though

I got some of this Matt Fat stuff in England at Christmas and it was pretty effective.

http://www.britstore.co.uk/photos/Lee_Stafford_Matt_Fat_Hair_Powder_10g.jpg

Unfortunately it was too effective on 1st day hair and not effective enough on 2nd day hair so I wound up tossing it.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 6 July 2012 20:23 (thirteen years ago)

The powder to liquid thing was pretty great though - it was like playing around with a science project.

oh aveda has some of that powder that turns into lotion craziness, it does work pretty well but I am definitely interested in something less expensive!

teeny, Monday, 9 July 2012 00:10 (thirteen years ago)

omg i finally went to the Sephora in downtown Montreal today! it opened about a month ago - flagship store for Canada, so the saleswoman told me. it was so chill in there, like no other Sephora I've been in. maybe just because it was Thursday early afternoon? i don't know, but, eesh, i kinda wish i didn't love Sephora so much... lol

i bought:
- new mascara (the kind i always get: clinique naturally glossy jet black)
- Dior addict lipstick in this really pretty bright pink colour (762) that goes well with my newly darkened hair. yaay pink! :)
- clinique city block, because i need a water-resistant spf for my face and i've always liked this one, so hey
- clinique airbrush concealer/illuminator - i was thinking about getting touche eclat but didn't feel like spending $50 (o_O) and i liked the feel of the clinique one more. WHY have i not used an illuminator before??? wow

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:31 (thirteen years ago)

I went to Nordstrom Rack yesterday and they had Urban Decay Primer Potion in the old-style packaging for wither $8 or $9, I forget which. Sweet deal imo.

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

That is a very sweet deal.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

well, i think i didn't use illuminators because i thought they'd cause shine and sparkle and i didn't want that look. but brightening! is a good look

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

wow super good deal
xp

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

How do you use an illuminator? Innarested.

I got some tinted moisturizer – closest I have ever come to foundation or anything. I can't tell if I like how it looks or not. It does even out my skin tone but it highlights all the scars on my face I think, and skin flakes. I can't really tell which is better.

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:35 (thirteen years ago)

I got the Mayebline BB cream. It's OK but I think maybe I liked the Garnier better. It's SPF 30 though which is good.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)

i was sort of a fan of tinted moisturizer with SPF when i was in my teens and early 20s and my skin was young and constantly glowy anyway. but i still preferred moisturizer + a sheer foundation with SPF in it (i used Clinique Almost Makeup for so many years - I don't think they even make it anymore? i didn't see it at sephora anyway, though i looked). I think with separate products you have more of a chance of getting something suits your skin best. even though the double-duty thing is appealing. but to me a moisturizer needs to sink in, whereas a foundation shouldn't so much.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 20:40 (thirteen years ago)

I think foundation just makes me neurotic! I walk around worrying my face is melting off or something. I had a dream the other night I was wearing it and I looked in a mirror and it looked like I was wearing crackle paint.

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:20 (thirteen years ago)

I'm finding since I switched to the Cerave face cleanser/moisturiser that I break out for a few days after I've worn makeup

wondering if I need to switch makeups, but idk what to switch to.
using smashbox primer and clinique super-balanced (clinique has a nice green tint to their cream chamois that counters my flushed face)
