'curated' is a stretch but thats actually doable

Lamp, Thursday, 29 March 2012 05:01 (fourteen years ago)

i have a set of stroboscopic image viewing books too, shit like crystal structures of gemstones and photos of minerals and fossils, i should break that shit out too

the late great, Thursday, 29 March 2012 05:02 (fourteen years ago)

tell me which ones you're looking for and i'll try to hook you up

the late great, Thursday, 29 March 2012 05:03 (fourteen years ago)

late great, do you own or rent? If the former, I can think of alot of ideas for the kitchen. I can tell you're American because of the oversize-but-space-inefficient appliances that are ubiquitous here, like those over-the-stove microwave ovens that combine a feeble exhaust ventilation fan with a microwave that's wide and yet too shallow to fit a pizza box into.

Glass blocks around the shower quite nice imo.

everything else is secondary (Lee626), Thursday, 29 March 2012 06:54 (fourteen years ago)

microwaves gonna go, gonna put in better hood

the late great, Thursday, 29 March 2012 06:58 (fourteen years ago)

I love your house, dude! I also now want that cactus dream house.. I have no plants. These were my 'if I lived here I'd do it like this' thoughts as I scrolled through, no criticism really because I think you have great taste!:

I could see a couple low, wide cupboard or bench under this window

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6039/6879328320_915c117c59_z.jpg
I would put both black chairs side by side and move the little side table, possibly beside the bucket chair

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6232/6879518826_ea8d90ba73.jpg
cool vase would upgrade that tree - or paint/collage over top of the terra cotta one.

Scrubbing Bubbles is pretty decent at getting shower junk out! Might work on the rusty bits, too. Or steel wool!

Trippy bathroom pictures ARE trippy - that's so beautiful! But outside the shower they are not quite as stunning. Maybe framed, hung horizontally? If it were me and I were not super attached to the images (I can't really tell what they are, you might be of course!) I would cut each picture in half, top and bottom, then hang three wide, two tall. Or split in half vertically if you can find 6 frames to match! You could then even scatter them a little, i.e., not necessarily hang the pairs together.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7060/7025429131_c3439a4c8a_z.jpg

I feel like the framed picture is maybe a little too high, but I know it's a PITA to change that (always easier to add another hole that will hide the previous! Heh. I am a lazy tenant) and of course you know I'm frame crazy so I would frame that cute little blue picture.

Still jealous and love the home tours! Please to show how other ILXors live!

three weeks pass...

I think I really want the new tubular-frame couch IKEA is putting out in August. Not that I have anywhere to put it in my little rooms, but maybe I can work out a deal w roommate where I put it on his side just so I can have it for the future....

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 19 April 2012 16:52 (fourteen years ago)

That's so Jetsons! I wonder how comfortable it would be though - if you were to lean on the arms, would they crush down since the support only goes halfway?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 19 April 2012 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

I'm not that hard on furniture...I dunno? But it has the summer house/porch-furniture quality of lightness and a lifted-up structure that makes it not monolithic...I like to be able to see under things. Sure, there are couches that you can actually sit on the arms of that I would love, but they won't fit up my stairs and cost more than $250.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 19 April 2012 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

Oh wait I lied, it's going to be $900. Rule that out, then.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 19 April 2012 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

I hear your pain - when we moved into this apartment we had to ditch our couch because it wouldn't fit up the stairs either. Glad IKEA has collapsible stuff (which is sturdy as long as you don't collapse it too often). $900? Holy shit. Our L shaped replacement couch was $1400 but at least that has the decency to give us 12 feet of couch!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 19 April 2012 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

i have a feeling that IRL that tubular couch is gonna feel really creaky and flimsy and rock back and forth when you sit in it.

the late great, Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:36 (fourteen years ago)

I'm sure you're right, but probably not moreso than that bamboo porch furniture that everyone had for a while? Which would have been worth it if it were a few hundred bucks. But not for a grand.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:38 (fourteen years ago)

And by "a while" I mean like 1964, at least in the case of my grandparents.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:39 (fourteen years ago)

the quality of the IKEA stuff is generally as good as what you pay for, so I'd imagine the $900 sofa would hold up MUCH better than their $200 one.

I DIED, Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:43 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, the other stuff in the new PS collection is priced extremely reasonably so I figure the $900 sofa must actually have cost that much more to make than the cool bamboo-frame cube tables that are only $35. I just don't have a thousand bucks.

craigslist a nice used one

the late great, Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:50 (fourteen years ago)

that's my solution to everything, i just buy shit that was expensive when it was new 30 years ago and is now beat to fuck (aka PATINA)

the late great, Thursday, 19 April 2012 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

which of these task lamps do i need

robin's egg blue?

a cute white tensor?

schoolbus yellow luxo?

canary yellow luxo?

fake jielde signal from pottery barn teen? but yellow or blue? also it kinda looks like a cheap POS and takes chandelier bulbs.

for reference, my desk

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:07 (fourteen years ago)

the first one

Lamp, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:10 (fourteen years ago)

i am leaning toward the canary yellow luxo right now

here are two others that i'm on the verge of ruling out

this beast here weighs 20 lbs, shipping from montreal is $100 on top of $150 price tag, takes some weird type of bulb that i'm not sure they make anymore?

this thing is rather awesome but looks too small to really be practical. but really awesome.

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:13 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i guess my fear is that the canary yellow will overwhelm the room, i think the robin's egg blue will look nice w/ the wood desk and wood floor and the map and orange table accents etc etc

there is also this lapis luxo but it's a "real collector's item" and so a little more expensive than the appearance justifies

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

how do i know you know anything about lamps, lamp?

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:16 (fourteen years ago)

i think there some pix of my apt itt, other than that, idk

i like the lapis a lot but i dont think its quite the right color, there robins egg feels more period appropriate for the vibe yr place has

Lamp, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:18 (fourteen years ago)

i'm just making a bad dn joke

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:19 (fourteen years ago)

i think you're right about the lamp, lamp

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:19 (fourteen years ago)

robin's egg or school bus

I DIED, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:20 (fourteen years ago)

canary yellow so cheerful though

this thing is rather awesome but looks too small to really be practical. but really awesome

probably would make a good bedside table lamp

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:22 (fourteen years ago)

the canary yellow photo seems to have a bit of a greenish cast to the yellow I'm not into, but who knows whether that's just the photo/monitor/whatever else.

I DIED, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:24 (fourteen years ago)

yeah the photos look a little off

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:28 (fourteen years ago)

Schoolbus is my favourite but I don't think it works so well with the room. Egg-blue would fit better - more contrast.

NSFW Australia (seandalai), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 01:15 (fourteen years ago)

im down with either the blue or green PB

fine with 49 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

and ive never seen a canary that color ever

fine with 49 (sunny successor), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

http://www.picgifs.com/bird-graphics/bird-graphics/canary/bird-graphics-canary-919911.jpg

OH SNAP NOW WHAT YOU GOT PWND

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

i don't actually know if i've actually ever seen a canary IRL, the color does look strangely fluorescent

think i'm going to go w/ robin's egg blue task lamp, it just looks sturdier than the PB teen one and takes regular bulbs, thanks all for the advice

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 19:24 (fourteen years ago)

i am going to buy the pbteen one for my gf

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

i think it would be cool to have all three pbteen ones set up like that on your desk

the late great, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

haha that canary is pretty fucking yellow

fine with 49 (sunny successor), Thursday, 26 April 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

so what kind of rugs do i need

the late great, Thursday, 26 April 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

rugs are a real headache. i think i only like your proper old style persian/turkish ones but they are expensive and hard to find a good one that doesn't overpower the rest of your room.

jed_, Thursday, 26 April 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

i am eventually going to inherit an entire house worth of those so i'm not in a rush - but yeah, crazy expensive if you want a good one

what do you all think of cowhide? i like the idea because they don't stain and a dog can't ruin one by peeing on it.

the late great, Thursday, 26 April 2012 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

Too everywhere.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 26 April 2012 21:12 (fourteen years ago)

you mean like too trendy and overdone apartment therapy midcentury style

the late great, Thursday, 26 April 2012 21:22 (fourteen years ago)

I've been on the lookout for a rug for two years :( Not that I've been overly proactive about it but still...

NSFW Australia (seandalai), Friday, 27 April 2012 00:16 (fourteen years ago)

I like this thread and I like your pics, late great.

I just want to show off one of my prized possessions, which I got for a steal (I've posted this to another thread, but a year later I'm still in love w/ it)

That's a pic from the store. It cost me only $375!

Pita Malört (Je55e), Saturday, 28 April 2012 15:23 (fourteen years ago)

Oh that's stunning! And are those highball glasses? We have similar ones if so ..

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 28 April 2012 15:24 (fourteen years ago)

Oh haha. Damn zing / invisible xposts!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 28 April 2012 15:25 (fourteen years ago)

Oh!! Those are from the store, BUT, I have similar colored/gold accented glasses that were a WONDERFUL spur-of-the-moment Xmas gift from our own carl agatha! I love them. We were browsing Macy's one day at lunch and next thing you know, I was the happy new owner of those glasses.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Saturday, 28 April 2012 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

My big cat sleeps on the bottom shelf, under the drawers. When she's upset over a scolding or nail trimming, she flees there and glowers at me.
