this made me lol so hard

horseshoe, Friday, 17 February 2012 03:17 (fourteen years ago)

imagining all kinds of song lyrics with illuminati replaced by illpoominati right now

horseshoe, Friday, 17 February 2012 03:17 (fourteen years ago)

two months pass...

I was just using my usual hand mirror to put makeup on, then switched to the one that comes with the Naked pallette. Jesus Christ! The Naked one shows me the truth! The bags under my eyes jumped out like some kind of 3-d imax effect! I need a new hand mirror.

Natalie Dee's makeup blog is cute!
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gVZDojC9yis/T5BKUXHZOrI/AAAAAAAAAAc/HP-RFqfAhtE/s320/passage-of-time.jpg

back in school they called blondies who dyed their hair black & left roots "skunks"

D'oh the first post on Natalie Dee disses the SBX primer I gave to E & Bene_Gesserit ;_; no one paid $60 though so its okay

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 23 April 2012 03:37 (fourteen years ago)

I dyed my hair near-black for years but that gradual 'glowing' effect and the amount of time I spent resenting it was the reason I'm now happily blondie again.

this is not the right thread, but since we're talking about it, how do folks get their eyeliner to not smudge? without fail, every day, some smudging! i look at the cool stuff on the eyegraffiti page but then my very next thought is, if i wore that it would all be smudged to pieces...

― rayuela, Thursday, May 3, 2012 3:52 PM

I don't think there's a secret except try another kind of eyeliner? Mine not only doesn't smudge, it actually peels/flakes off in, like, CHIPS. Maybe it's a gel?

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 3 May 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

This is the only thing I've used for many years:

That's what my mom used to use forever, it's pretty good! I'm using a kohl pencil lately. Protip = PRIMER.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 3 May 2012 16:19 (fourteen years ago)

Either Urban Decay Portion Primer or the lovely Smashbox one that FFM gave me. Both are great.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 3 May 2012 16:19 (fourteen years ago)

Stila waterproof liquid eyeliner is great for long-wearing non-smudging eyeliner but I find the applicator a bit unwieldy. ymmv.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 3 May 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

I've been working on this and I've found that in addition to a good no-smudge eyeliner, you should put foundation and powder on your eyelids first, before applying any eyeshadow or liner.

I dunno if that's something that everyone does and I am the last to learn, but it seriously has helped my eye makeup steez

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

Phoo I don't do that. I put a little shadow on my lids and then line away.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 3 May 2012 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

for me it's the bottom lining that ends up smudging all the time...

rayuela, Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:07 (fourteen years ago)

Glad you like the primer, E! Would that I could ship a goodie bag to every lady on here!

Rayuela: I have tiny little eyes and lining the bottom makes me look shifty, so I have little experience with that, but I really enjoy felt tip eye liner - it draws on like marker and doesn't smudge for me. I use Bourjois' Liner Feutre.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:16 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I don't put anything down there because it ends up all over my face.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

Whoa out of context…

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:18 (fourteen years ago)

ha!

rayuela, Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:18 (fourteen years ago)

I have deep-set eyes though, so my eyelids tend to get weird and sweaty during the day, my eyeshadow/liner doesn't seem to last all day, hence the makeup/powder combo.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

lol carl

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

VG: you may wish to try some primer! Makes even the least pigmented eyeshadows pretty great.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

i've never heard of primer. must investigate.

rayuela, Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:32 (fourteen years ago)

Oh I use primer all the time too, yes

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

also xp to laurel's initial post -- i use gel liner on my upper lids and it's pretty great! (a recent discovery)

rayuela, Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

I love Lineur Intense! I use it even after years of using Laura Mercier liner (with their $24 brush dear god... it has like 3 bristles)

superpussy, Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

I just wish I could train my hands to *stay away from my face*
what is it with me and poking at my eyes all day long while I'm wearing makeup
I mean really

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

Me too. I'm trying to be more conscious of it. Now I tap my skin if itchy around the eye area; seems to work a bit.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

Eyeshadow primer changed my life. I'm not kidding. My eye makeup stays perfect all day long without fail. Like I said both UDPP and the Smashbox one are great. My last tube of UDPP lasted over a year btw.

for me it's the bottom lining that ends up smudging all the time...

Oh, I don't line my bottom lids at all because it supposedly makes eyes look smaller. This probably isn't true but I read it somewhere years ago and it's stuck with me.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)

I just use regular foundation primer. There's eyeshadow primer too?

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)

Hell yeah there is.

I also used to use the Lineur Intense but the felt tip one in Mineral Grey which was my favorite eyeliner color ever but I haven't been able to find it in months and think they discontinued it. So sad!

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:59 (fourteen years ago)

I clearly need to get on the eyeshadow primer train then

then again I only recently discovered wtf a crease brush is for so, what I don't know could fill a book haha

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:00 (fourteen years ago)

I've had good luck with the ELF eyeshadow primer, but it makes blending a little difficult. SO CHEAP though.

superpussy, Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

I know people say brushes are a game changer too and they probably are but I normally just use my fingers.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

I bought some ELF stuff a few years back, blinded by the price and ugh such garbage

I have a couple of really soft nice Sonia Kashuk brushes for eyeshadow now and it's made a difference I think.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I have a couple of those too and they are v nice but I just never remember to use them.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:08 (fourteen years ago)

so it turns out there are like a gajillion vids on youtube showing you how to keep your liner from smudging. maybe i'll do some experimenting tmr morning...

rayuela, Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:15 (fourteen years ago)

And then let us know! :)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

I really like the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer. I also have a handful of those cheap ass Eco Tools brushes that they sell in Walgreens and Ulta and I think they're great (although I've never owned brushes that cost any more than those do so I can't really compare).

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:45 (fourteen years ago)

I like brushes for eyeshadow, powder, and blush, but everything else I put on with my fingers. I think my fingers, which I wash a lot and specifically right before I put on makeup, are going to be a lot cleaner than a concealer brush, which I would probably wash once every couple, three of months (because I am apparently cheap and disgusting w/r/t makeup brushes).

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:47 (fourteen years ago)

yeah I'm bad at washing brushes

I did a foundation brush for a while but I prefer fingers too

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:49 (fourteen years ago)

Anything that's not powder just seems like a very messy proposition, brush-wise.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

I switched to Bobbi Brown cream blush just so I could avoid using a brush. They say you can also use it for lips, but it doesn't seem to be v. moisturizing and I normally wash it off in frustration when I can see it sinking into my cracked lips.

Does anyone else reuse sponges for foundation until they're too gross? Brushes inevitably leave streaks on my face (so I just used them for powder), but using a new sponge every time for stippling wastes so much of my product.

superpussy, Thursday, 3 May 2012 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

Eyeshadow primer is the business and absolutely essential for my oilpit eyelids. I didn't wear any makeup except mascara yesterday and the mascara from the tips of my eyelids had blurred onto the non-primered oil magnet of my eyelids. Insane! The Urban Decay one is my favorite.

Dale, dale, dale (Abbbottt), Thursday, 3 May 2012 22:22 (fourteen years ago)

clearly I need this magic tool

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 22:25 (fourteen years ago)

i too have oilpit eyelids

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 22:25 (fourteen years ago)

seriously without it nearly everything has ended up in the crease in 2-3 hours; faster when it's hot

Dale, dale, dale (Abbbottt), Thursday, 3 May 2012 22:26 (fourteen years ago)

I got this cute little primer set from Sephora for $10, the Benefit one with a face primer and eyelid primer and pore balm thing. The eyelid primer is p cool but my eyeshadow still creases after a while.
