I feel pretty--NOT! THE COSMETICS THREAD

I got a sample of the Nars stuff too and didn't really like it but I'd try it out like R suggested. I lot of people online seemed to love it. Just didn't do anything for me.

I have that Benefit mascara too! Only thing is it's quite tough to remove. Oh, you said that already!
I found it got to that slightly drying-out in the bottle stage quite quickly, although I seem to be finding this w/ many mascaras recently, maybe it's living in a warmer climate? idk.

oh man illuminator is so fantastic. i think people have trouble with them sometimes because they use the wrong color. Anyway, illuminator application pro tips:
1. if you use a base like foundation, powder, concealer etc always put the illuminator on last.
2. never put it over your whole face. some people recommend mixing it with a sheer foundation but unless they're going for a full moon face, they're wrong.

i think i need some now...

How do you know what color to get? The sample I got came in "orgasm" (peachy) and "copacabana" (light pinky). I went for the latter bc rose/pink/berry colors tend to look best on me.

I used it today buy I honestly need a second opinion re whether I did it right.

j3nny, make sure you're using the *lightest* touch when you apply it, too - it's really easy to over-apply and end up looking... wacky. i've got shell highlighter from mac, it's okay but a little glittery.

Yeah, a little seems to go a long way. I don't think it looks bad but I don't think I've quite unlocked the secret.

Oh man I would buy a whole set of sunny's makeup instruction cards in bold marker shades.

i got ooh la la lift which i guess is eye illuminator and i think it helps but maybe it's all psychologicalllll

maybe i should try it out in other places. it's not as shimmery as glowy liquid things.

I really like Ooh La Lift.

i can't tell how well it works really bc i ran out of contacts and glasses probably ruin the effect but i just ordered some more contacts so soon i will feel appropriately brightened/lifted.

I was just using my usual hand mirror to put makeup on, then switched to the one that comes with the Naked pallette. Jesus Christ! The Naked one shows me the truth! The bags under my eyes jumped out like some kind of 3-d imax effect! I need a new hand mirror.

D'oh the first post on Natalie Dee disses the SBX primer I gave to E & Bene_Gesserit ;_; no one paid $60 though so its okay

I dyed my hair near-black for years but that gradual 'glowing' effect and the amount of time I spent resenting it was the reason I'm now happily blondie again.

this is not the right thread, but since we're talking about it, how do folks get their eyeliner to not smudge? without fail, every day, some smudging! i look at the cool stuff on the eyegraffiti page but then my very next thought is, if i wore that it would all be smudged to pieces...

I don't think there's a secret except try another kind of eyeliner? Mine not only doesn't smudge, it actually peels/flakes off in, like, CHIPS. Maybe it's a gel?

That's what my mom used to use forever, it's pretty good! I'm using a kohl pencil lately. Protip = PRIMER.

Either Urban Decay Portion Primer or the lovely Smashbox one that FFM gave me. Both are great.

Stila waterproof liquid eyeliner is great for long-wearing non-smudging eyeliner but I find the applicator a bit unwieldy. ymmv.

I've been working on this and I've found that in addition to a good no-smudge eyeliner, you should put foundation and powder on your eyelids first, before applying any eyeshadow or liner.

I dunno if that's something that everyone does and I am the last to learn, but it seriously has helped my eye makeup steez

Rayuela: I have tiny little eyes and lining the bottom makes me look shifty, so I have little experience with that, but I really enjoy felt tip eye liner - it draws on like marker and doesn't smudge for me. I use Bourjois' Liner Feutre.

Yeah I don't put anything down there because it ends up all over my face.

I have deep-set eyes though, so my eyelids tend to get weird and sweaty during the day, my eyeshadow/liner doesn't seem to last all day, hence the makeup/powder combo.

VG: you may wish to try some primer! Makes even the least pigmented eyeshadows pretty great.

also xp to laurel's initial post -- i use gel liner on my upper lids and it's pretty great! (a recent discovery)

I love Lineur Intense! I use it even after years of using Laura Mercier liner (with their $24 brush dear god... it has like 3 bristles)

Me too. I'm trying to be more conscious of it. Now I tap my skin if itchy around the eye area; seems to work a bit.

Eyeshadow primer changed my life. I'm not kidding. My eye makeup stays perfect all day long without fail. Like I said both UDPP and the Smashbox one are great. My last tube of UDPP lasted over a year btw.

Oh, I don't line my bottom lids at all because it supposedly makes eyes look smaller. This probably isn't true but I read it somewhere years ago and it's stuck with me.

I also used to use the Lineur Intense but the felt tip one in Mineral Grey which was my favorite eyeliner color ever but I haven't been able to find it in months and think they discontinued it. So sad!
