those are CUTE! really like that sort of cuban heel on them

just1n3, Wednesday, 4 January 2012 06:28 (fourteen years ago)

Yes, those are A+.

They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Wednesday, 4 January 2012 13:21 (fourteen years ago)

sooo cute
the last pair of shoes i bought were actually giant boots (40% off yaay!) - my first pair of truly warm winter boots - and it only took me 10 years of montreal winters to finally buy. lol...

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 4 January 2012 14:57 (fourteen years ago)

they're not actually all that giant compared to sorels or keens or other big winter boots. and no zipper! i am so tired of zippers breaking due to lots of walking + salt damage. and i can wear these snowshoeing :)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 4 January 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)

Was thinking this morning, since it's 17 degrees out, that this weekend might be the time to hit an Army-Navy store, unless I can find some awesome on-sale Sorels or something.

It means why you gotta be a montague? (Laurel), Wednesday, 4 January 2012 15:22 (fourteen years ago)

La Lechera, Thursday, 5 January 2012 21:10 (fourteen years ago)

Those are something.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 6 January 2012 00:02 (fourteen years ago)

i only look at that site for abominations these days. they have some ok stuff MAYBE but mostly it's just high heel platform fake docs with cats on them.

La Lechera, Friday, 6 January 2012 00:04 (fourteen years ago)

lol whoa but i still somehow have a certain respect for those

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 6 January 2012 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

bene, are those shoes from the brand ALL BLACK? I've been eyeing a few of their looks for a while...

homosexual II, Friday, 6 January 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

oh that's so funny - no wonder i like them too! i have a pair of All Black shoes i bought a couple of years ago in brooklyn - they are exactly the same shape except the leather isn't textured and has little cutouts in flower pattern. they are really comfortable too. i recommend, wld buy again.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 6 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

I have a strange aversion to peep toes because my toes are not long enough to peep. I have short toes.

homosexual II, Friday, 6 January 2012 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

haha i kind of have the opposite prob - i don't want the peep hole (um...) to be too big because it makes my long (but not really all that long!) toes appear longer.

mookieproof, Friday, 6 January 2012 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

so I have to gab about those Bass heeled patent leather saddle shoes again... I don't think I've worn a pair of shoes that's received this many compliments, EVER. They are totally amazing. And go with A LOT of my wardrobe. Pretty comfy, too. A+++++

homosexual II, Sunday, 8 January 2012 20:44 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, I should check the Bass outlet this week.

I had a pair of saddle shoes about 15 years ago.

tokyo rosemary, Monday, 9 January 2012 00:36 (fourteen years ago)

yes they are all black! i got them on mega sale from a store in maine that was going out of business. they are super comfy.

bene_gesserit, Monday, 9 January 2012 01:11 (fourteen years ago)

bass, $79

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:20 (fourteen years ago)

My Bass loafers are pretty rad, but they were EXTREMELY tight over the instep until I stretched 'em. Clearly made for someone with a lot less arch than my poor feet. May not be as much of a problem with an oxford style?

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:23 (fourteen years ago)

florsheim, $90

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:24 (fourteen years ago)

i have low arches so prob less of a problem in general for me

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:25 (fourteen years ago)

i have those cole haan saddle shoes in a different color, i like them quite a bit

a friend of mine bought the bass ones last year and they fell apart really quickly, like they barely lasted the summer

Lamp, Friday, 20 April 2012 15:29 (fourteen years ago)

i am kinda smitten with the cognac color on the cole haans which is the only reason i am entertaining them as an option, idk if that's worth more than double the price of the others

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:30 (fourteen years ago)

yeah for s.thing like saddle shoes you probably dont care about getting 10 years wear out of them so i can understand that. i have superhigh arches and cole haans fit me much better than other midrange stuff and even most high end mens shoes

Lamp, Friday, 20 April 2012 15:34 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i would just be adding them into the casual s/s rotation with a couple pairs of suede bucks and some canvas sneaks, probably not gonna get heavy duty wear

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:37 (fourteen years ago)

might go florsheim, i think the brick red sole looks nice. i kinda worry about them looking like golf shoes tho? esp if i wear em with shorts

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:39 (fourteen years ago)

I love those red soles too but they wear down and no one replaces them anymore. Get something w a leather bottom and then have it recovered with extra leather or some rubber, is my advice. The heel of that all-foam sole is going to wear out unevenly and fast.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

I have to send my Fryes back to the company over the summer--they need to be resoled FOR REALS and not just what cobblers do today, which is put another layer over the old layer. I mean actually unstitched and resewn onto a new bottom. I have no idea how much this is going to cost me. Can you still send them back? It's not for free anymore, I imagine.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:50 (fourteen years ago)

I like the way saddle shoes look unto themselves but I wouldn't really know how to wear them. Maybe I'm not 'metro' enough.

i don't believe in zimmerman (Hurting 2), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

on yr feet, thats my advice

Lamp, Friday, 20 April 2012 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

BTW can't a good cobbler actually re-sole shoes? North 11th Shoe Repair in Williamsburg does good work, maybe call them. There was also a russian guy in a dry cleaners on Livingston St. in Downtown Brooklyn that seemed to do good work.

laurel: http://frye.ecommerce.createthesoftware.com/UploadedFiles/2c6cb230-689c-40dc-8b7e-05df71f253ed.pdf

looks like $50 for leather soles, $40 for rubber

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I got to that. It's going to be like $100 for resoling and general conditioning and the heel taps being replaced, etc. That's like half the price of the damn boots. But sigh, I will do it.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

i would prob wear those saddle shoes w/ tan or olive chinos or dark jeans with a madras, chambray, or oxford button-down

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

maybe too gimmicky & def too spendy for me but i like the look of these despite my general dislike of allstars

http://media-cache7.pinterest.com/upload/282671314081852448_rceeydTQ_f.jpg

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 20:15 (fourteen years ago)

Kind of feel like too many casual sneakers have fat white soles like that. Something about that just doesn't look good on my feet.

i don't believe in zimmerman (Hurting 2), Friday, 20 April 2012 20:19 (fourteen years ago)

personally i don't really mind as long at the shoe has a low footbed / profile. chunky white outsole & tall footbed is kind of a skater look and i am anything but that

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

you know if you want saddle shoes that strikes me as the sort of thing you could really easily find a nice vintage pair of

the late great, Friday, 20 April 2012 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

i know, right? i haven't seen any, but not for want of thrifting. i am v cautious abt ebaying shoes, tho.

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Friday, 20 April 2012 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

i have purchased 4 pairs of new shoes in the past month, and 3 of them have been heels! this is v unusual behaviour for me but i am v happy.

the second pair look way better on than i expected AND they're ridic comfy.

just1n3, Monday, 23 April 2012 02:14 (fourteen years ago)

i feel like when i go to buffalo exchange i always see many many pairs of saddle shoes

are you in LA elmo or am i imagining things

the late great, Monday, 23 April 2012 02:36 (fourteen years ago)

Just1n3 those are great shoes!
I want to get some flat oxfords or something for teaching but not have them look like "teacher shoes," this is probably crazy.

does Red Stripe work like poppers? (Abbbottt), Monday, 23 April 2012 02:41 (fourteen years ago)

v, you must be imagining things because i am in rhode island!

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Monday, 23 April 2012 12:33 (fourteen years ago)

where are those florsheims selling for $90?

i've posted these before but these are my saddles

http://di1-2.shoppingshadow.com/images/pi/8e/2c/28/97947698-260x260-0-0_Johnston+Murphy+Brennan.jpg

johnston murphy google search will find you them somewhere.

just bought the below brogues today, most i've ever spent on a pair of shoes but have wanted grensons for ages and they are so nicely made.

http://www.weaversdoor.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/270x405/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/g/r/grenson-5190451ftan-sidalpinebrogue-tan-4.jpg

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 April 2012 21:26 (fourteen years ago)

I have kind of coveted Grensons since I first saw them at Soula in Brooklyn a few years ago, even before I think they had much market presence in the US.

i don't believe in zimmerman (Hurting 2), Monday, 23 April 2012 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

a few weeks ago they had a concession in selfridges in london and i got talking to the attendant who recognised me from trying on a pair of boots in this tiny grenson shop which is near where i live. had a long conversation about shoes... then she offered me discount. <3

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 April 2012 21:33 (fourteen years ago)

What are they priced like in London? They are still kind of prohibitively expensive for me here.
