:(

i tried the revlon one but i felt like the color was too bold for me to use on a regular basis :(

tehresa, Thursday, 10 November 2011 02:57 (fourteen years ago)

Cover Girl makes one w/out a balm on the end that is more purse friendly. In fact I opened up a purse i hadn't used in 18 months recently and one was still chilling in there and it still worked just fine. It & the Revlon & the Smashbox one all seem basically the same to me. I like them all. The psychological trick of feeling like drawing with markers really works for me, they're the only lip product I feel totally ok with. They don't spread everywhere and they look normal or even still good as they fade.

ghost grapes (Abbbottt), Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:26 (fourteen years ago)

I really like the color of the Cover Girl one I have. In fact when I went to buy another one I picked it out again a second time. It's like a deeper shade of my regular lips.

ghost grapes (Abbbottt), Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:28 (fourteen years ago)

lol I just checked what it's called and there's no name but the number is 420

ghost grapes (Abbbottt), Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)

to blab more about how great they are I rode to work in the rain Monday (mistake) and my scooter helmet does not cover my chin. I had just put on red lip stain (Revlon "gothic" also lol) and was worried I would look like some melting fuchsia nightmare when I arrived. BUT after 25 minutes of fucking cold rain on my lips it had faded only a little and was not messed up at all. It was a relief!

ghost grapes (Abbbottt), Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:32 (fourteen years ago)

I always put lip gloss over it because I find that it makes my lips look a little dry. Or am I just not getting the point of what it's supposed to look like?

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:45 (fourteen years ago)

I don't lip lip stains like that at all because they've always seemed too drying for me.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:46 (fourteen years ago)

i find them drying, and i feel like they exacerbate the lines in my lips, too.

tehresa, Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:48 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah. I love them in theory but have never found one that actually looked good on.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:50 (fourteen years ago)

i find them drying, and i feel like they exacerbate the lines in my lips, too.

Anything with a matte finish will do that, just like it does with house paint.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:51 (fourteen years ago)

which is why i usually wear sheer colors! if i do a lot of work and prep my lips w/ concealer and/or powder then apply lipstick w/ a brush matte colors look better. but it's way too much effort for every day.

tehresa, Thursday, 10 November 2011 03:53 (fourteen years ago)

I should note my lip color preferences derive solely from laziness. So
– hardly ever need to reapply it
– shouldn't make kissing feel too different (I've never been much of a lipstick wearer)
– doesn't go everywhere or get in my hair (lip gloss & regular lipstick right out)
– in fact shouldn't require lipliner at all (have never figured out how to do it w/out painting on some ridic hyperbolic Clara Bow thing which just feels weird if I'm not dressed equally costumey)
– should actually make me look like I have a mouth in photos and IRL (so tinted lip balm is out)
and the little markery lipstains fit the checklist for me ymmv obv

ghost grapes (Abbbottt), Thursday, 10 November 2011 04:07 (fourteen years ago)

Have you ever tried using clear lip liner? Works just as well as the tinted kind, and you don't need any fine motor skills to use it (which is good for me, since mine are pretty bad).

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 10 November 2011 04:34 (fourteen years ago)

I feel like I can't put on regular lipstick symmetrically at all
Like I seriously feel like these lip stains work for me mostly because I was raised by a pack of 8 Crayola markers

ghost grapes (Abbbottt), Thursday, 10 November 2011 04:36 (fourteen years ago)

hahaaa i think this is prob true!
my reasons for wearing lipstain are very similar to yours - i find the smashbox and revlon ones don't dry out my lips, whereas so much other lip colour doesn't just dry my lips but causes an extreme-dryness allergic reaction of sorts - blargh!
that said, the lipstain colour doesn't last all that long for me. maybe i talk to much or subconsciously bite/lick my lips too much, but i don't think so. maybe my lips just wanna be free.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 10 November 2011 13:04 (fourteen years ago)

i would like to investigate this clear lip liner bizness

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 10 November 2011 13:04 (fourteen years ago)

I am pro-lip stain for all the reasons Abbot listed, although I do need to reapply it. The Revlon kind doesn't really dry my lips out BUT I say this on the morning of the first truly cold and dry day we've had in Chicago so get back to me in a couple of weeks.

– doesn't go everywhere or get in my hair (lip gloss & regular lipstick right out)

This part about the hair, oh god, is so OTM. Standing at the bus stop while the wind blows my hair onto my lips and then it sticks because I'm wearing gloss or something... bleurgh. I also hate lipstick transfer onto my work coffee mug, because I generally wash it at the end of the day so I have to live with a lipstick lined rim which is skeevy.

They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Thursday, 10 November 2011 13:18 (fourteen years ago)

Still lolling at normal eyed people <3 I love you guys

I just got back from a dream attack (sunny successor), Thursday, 10 November 2011 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

I have noticed that with the lipstain i have* i tend to underfill my lower lip and then stare in the mirror trying to work out why i look funny. and then once i've managed to actually follow the shape of my lips i feel like i have too much on and blot like a maniac.

but yeah, a world in which i have coloured my lips and it doesn't transfer onto stuff is a world of which i approve.

* just bitten, in 'twilight', because i had to (also it was the best colour)

i like the sephora brand lip stain
i cover with cherry chapstick and it's not glossy, but is moist

the MMMM cult (La Lechera), Thursday, 10 November 2011 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

OK so apparently there is a new thing called BB cream and we all need it???

Will do more reasearch and follow up.

quincie, Thursday, 10 November 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

I am getting an "ancient chinese secret" vibe:

quincie, Thursday, 10 November 2011 17:13 (fourteen years ago)

haha did you just watch that sali hughes on primers? i'm fairly sure that's where i just heard about bb cream. but i couldn't face looking it up, given that i barely even wash my face every day.

"some newer ones will have functions of primer, foundation, moisturizer, sun block, pore minimization and skin refining together which can save time and money in make-up.[citation needed]"

hahahahahahahahahahaha hm no.

Yeah they're supposedly all-in-one miracle creams. There are a couple marketed in the US (Dr. Brandt and Clinique make them iirc) but most are Asian ones that people buy on Amazon. I've heard that ppl sometimes have a hard time matching the skin tones which are designed for Asian women but if they find one they like people tend to love them. One of the properties a lot of them claim to have is "skin lightening" which freaks me out. What the hell is that? Bleaching? Brightening? idk. I've obviously read up on them and thought about trying one but, tbh, they make me weirdly nervous for some reason. No one product should do that much! It's just not right. lol.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Thursday, 10 November 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, I think that Garnier makes on that's available in the UK but it hasn't been released here yet.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Thursday, 10 November 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

I'm always late to the convo. I loved my CoverGirl Outlast for years, and the Smashbox one is fun too (IME less drying than Outlast, but I used it for so long I got used to it.. one coat of gloss on top and I was good for the whole day). I will now begin living in fear that my SBX one's cap might fall off :(

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 10 November 2011 20:44 (fourteen years ago)

I wear 'Guava' and it's insanely bright but I love it. I'm insanely bright! Or in my head I am!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 10 November 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)

Guava is the Smashbox one I own and I love it! I think orangey lip colors look good on me. idk maybe it's all that Sonoran Desert seeping into my brain, gotta look good against all those sage green saguaros and fuchsia sunsets and turquoise kokopellis ;)

ghost grapes (Abbbottt), Friday, 11 November 2011 02:12 (fourteen years ago)

woahhh that bb article mentioned missha and i got all sad when it closed but then i googled and apparently missha has online shopping!!!!

tehresa, Friday, 11 November 2011 02:31 (fourteen years ago)

oooh what is it?

Also, which birchbox did you get?

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Friday, 11 November 2011 02:33 (fourteen years ago)

Yay Abbs! Guava power! My hair has some orange in it now so I like the effect. Who knew - I only ever went for red redddd lipsticks before.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 11 November 2011 02:43 (fourteen years ago)

missha was a store in nyc - some asian skincare store that was ridiculously cheap. they had this really great after shave soothing stuff for your legs, and those fun asian face mask thingies. it looks like they have changed their product line a bit.

birchbox: bracelet, scrub, eye makeup remover, nail polish, protein mist for hair, chocolate that looks insane

tehresa, Friday, 11 November 2011 02:46 (fourteen years ago)

I got the same one. I like it! The hair stuff smells divine. I just ate the chocolate. It was insane, insanely good.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Friday, 11 November 2011 02:48 (fourteen years ago)

Oh and you know who else has that bracelet? Check out the as seen on right here:

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Friday, 11 November 2011 02:48 (fourteen years ago)

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

tehresa, Friday, 11 November 2011 02:50 (fourteen years ago)

I KNOW!!

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Friday, 11 November 2011 02:51 (fourteen years ago)

A bracelet?!?

Ahh...could one of you hire me? Please? I want to start buying all of this stuff!

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 11 November 2011 03:12 (fourteen years ago)

this $10/month is my indulgence to keep me from buying $40 eye creams tbh

tehresa, Friday, 11 November 2011 03:15 (fourteen years ago)

lol yeah

I have a lot of points now. Might use them to get a nice cream soon. I stopped smoking (mostly stopped) so I justify this because it's small change compared to what I was spending on cigarettes before.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Friday, 11 November 2011 03:17 (fourteen years ago)

ok i feel kind of ridiculous saying this but i got a $5 eye cream from garnier that i actually really liked :/

surm, Friday, 11 November 2011 14:14 (fourteen years ago)

been using estee lauder lately tho

surm, Friday, 11 November 2011 14:14 (fourteen years ago)

I see your Garnier eye cream for $5 and raise you a travel size Lumene face cream for $3.99

ljubljana, Friday, 11 November 2011 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

The eye cream I was using for a while came free in a bag of samples a few years ago.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 11 November 2011 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i get a lot of mine for free from my mother in law

jana that sounds nice!

surm, Friday, 11 November 2011 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

oh hai I am wearing monostat anti-chafing gel on my face!

kinda liking it!

quincie, Friday, 11 November 2011 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

wait can you guys explain why you are putting monistat on your face? i've missed something here...

the MMMM cult (La Lechera), Friday, 11 November 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

loll

surm, Friday, 11 November 2011 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

LL it isn't the yeast-infection treatment product from monistat; it is an anti-chafing product that contains silicones and is pretty much a cheap drug store version of cosmetic "primer" products. It is a really thin, clear gel (almost a straight-up liquid, really) that feels really nice on; I think it maybe makes my pores a little less noticable under my foundation.

quincie, Friday, 11 November 2011 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

I forget who told me about the Monistat antichafe stuff (someone here I'm pretty sure), but it's the same main ingredient as the spendier primers.

I got dried up like a mummy from not drinking enough water in Las Vegas and have been drenching my poor chapped lip with as much Blistex as humanly possible. Once it's back to normal I've got two of the Just Bitten stain colors to try (Twilight of course and some other more neutral one)
