You are vvvv pretty, q!

Aw thanks! I'm glad I did my own makeup because I felt like a polished-up version of me rather than "GAH so not me!"
I even put on false eyelashes! But not the uber-dramatic type; just demi lashes on the outer half.
― quincie, Saturday, 5 November 2011 19:52 (fourteen years ago)
just1n3 otmso pretty!

Aww, sweet old cat. I've got a 16 or 17 year old tabby who's starting to look bedraggled in a similar way. So far, she hasn't needed a lot of home health interventions, which is good because she's the nicest cat on the planet until you try to make her do something (like take a pill), at which point she attempts to eat your face.
But back to the topic - that is great eyeliner. What did you end up doing with your hair? I guess that goes in the hair thread.

So I've had the Naked palette for about a week now and I LOVE IT!!!! It's so amazing. I realized tonight that I'd used every color except the greys so I tried out a sorta smokey eye and then went to the supermarket feeling very tarted up. lol. Anyway - this was the result: http://i54.tinypic.com/k46m4o.jpg Thank you so much to those who recommended that palette. I am so glad I got it!

gorgeous makeup, gorgeous q, gorgeous home! looks like a lovely day :)

Ooh I haven't looked here forever. I'll also rep for voluminous mascara.Have we talked about the new smash box palette?? I think it's exclusive to QVChttp://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.CM_SCID.coll.item.A217751.desc.smashbox-Photo-Op-Mega-Palette
Want!

Switched to that Voluminous mascara stuff a day ago. Got raccoon eyes yesterday, but not today.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 6 November 2011 02:54 (fourteen years ago)
Do you wear concealer? I think it was Quincy who mentioned having problems with mascara smearing when she wears concealed.
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Sunday, 6 November 2011 03:18 (fourteen years ago)
I wear eye cream, something from Dove.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 6 November 2011 04:34 (fourteen years ago)
I could see that making the mascara run, actually.
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Sunday, 6 November 2011 12:05 (fourteen years ago)
I can't not wear concealer (this is their undereye brightening cream) because I have deep dark near-Anne-Frank level allergic shiners.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 6 November 2011 14:37 (fourteen years ago)
Should I try a powder concealer instead? I also have allergic creases under my eyes (there's a formal name for them, but I forgot it), and I'm worried that the powder may make them look worse.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 6 November 2011 14:40 (fourteen years ago)
I wear concealer every day, too, and don't have that problem so I don't know. Could just be the mascara? I'm just kind of brainstorming.
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Sunday, 6 November 2011 14:51 (fourteen years ago)
My trick has been to do one coat of Voluminous, then a second coat of Lash Exact waterproof. The Lash Exact on its own doesn't really give me as much oomph as I would like, but putting a layer on over the Voluminous seems to prevent the Voluminous alone+concealer raccoon eyes.
― quincie, Sunday, 6 November 2011 15:23 (fourteen years ago)
ooh i think i will try this! i have always liked the look of voluminous but was not able to deal w/ the smudging.
― tehresa, Sunday, 6 November 2011 16:24 (fourteen years ago)
and i used to like lash exact but it wasn't enough oomf.
I'm already using waterproof mascara.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 6 November 2011 16:27 (fourteen years ago)
Do you rub your eyes a lot? That used to cause the problem for me when I first started wearing makeup.
― despite all my rage I am still just a Latter Day Saint (Abbbottt), Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:02 (fourteen years ago)
Never. That's why I can't figure out why this is happening.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:13 (fourteen years ago)
I think I mentioned it, but I always get a little smudge of mascara under my left eye in the same place and I have no idea why. I just chalk it up to the quiddities and agonies of wearing mascara. (insert shrugging emoticon here)
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)
Christine do you wear any eyeliner? If so, maybe that is transferring and not so much the mascara? This happens to me--I would like to tightline my top lash line in super-black eyeliner, but it ends up transferring to under my eyes :(
― quincie, Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:43 (fourteen years ago)
I wear white (or sometimes gold) eyeliner when I do wear it, so that's not it.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:47 (fourteen years ago)
Oh - have you tried an eyeshadow primer? I read on a blog somewhere that there is a good, cheap one for sale at Target although I can't remember the brand. If your eyelids are kind of oily the primer will control that, and this might keep your mascara in place.
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:49 (fourteen years ago)
Maybe worth doing the experiemnt to see what happens if you just do the very tips of your lashes with the mascara, and not swipe it down closer to the roots? And then vice versa. Maybe it is a placement issue?
― quincie, Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:51 (fourteen years ago)
Oh and ime there are plenty of waterproof mascaras that give me raccoon eyes because they shed little specks down below my eyes :(
― quincie, Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:52 (fourteen years ago)
(just musing here but it's kind of bullshit that the potential solution to a make up product not working as promised is to buy yet another make up product. Ah capitalism/oppression through beauty standards/etc etc)
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:54 (fourteen years ago)
Maybe just get your eyelashes tinted?
― I just got back from a dream attack (sunny successor), Sunday, 6 November 2011 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
Re the Naked palette: I just saw the greys in person. Granted they were on ENBB, who has lovely eyes, and I have not seen them on an ordinary-eyed person as a control. Nevertheless, off to find that voucher code...
― ljubljana, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:02 (fourteen years ago)
Awwww, shhhh! :) Also, get it! I'm seriously in love with all the shadows.
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:15 (fourteen years ago)
The only color in that palette I have a hard time with is sidecar bcz of glitter all over my face.
― despite all my rage I am still just a Latter Day Saint (Abbbottt), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 23:28 (fourteen years ago)
it shedsand then for the next 5 monthsI am still finding all the glitter
― despite all my rage I am still just a Latter Day Saint (Abbbottt), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 23:29 (fourteen years ago)
Another problem is a couple times I tried too many dift of the colors at once and it looked like my eyelids had gone to a steampunk convention without me, but that was a problem with ME and not with the palette.
― despite all my rage I am still just a Latter Day Saint (Abbbottt), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 23:30 (fourteen years ago)
lol!
Yeah, glitter is tricky. I haven't worn that one yet because of it but, yeah, thanks Abs!
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 23:33 (fourteen years ago)
imo it's a really pretty shade and it looks great on my eyes but it thinks it looks great everywhere else too >:(
― despite all my rage I am still just a Latter Day Saint (Abbbottt), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 23:38 (fourteen years ago)
I have been watching Lisa Eldrige on the yootube and now I am thinking about primer. Is primer ridic or???
― quincie, Wednesday, 9 November 2011 00:02 (fourteen years ago)
Um Eldridge, sorry Lisa, you are v pretty fyi
I like primer but I don't wear foundation so I kind of great primer like foundation that doesn't feel like foundation, if that makes any gd sense at all.
I love Benefit That Gal. Every other one I've tried has been no better than Monistat Anti-Chafing gel, incl the stupid expensive Arbonne stuff I posted about long ago.
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Wednesday, 9 November 2011 00:22 (fourteen years ago)
That Gal is my go to makeup on "god I hate my face" days.
I shall investigate this product! Does it have any, er, "coverage" like a foundation does?
― quincie, Wednesday, 9 November 2011 00:29 (fourteen years ago)
Not really? I think primer works by reflecting light or something making it the portable make-up equivalent of that soft focus filter they used on Joan Collins in Dynasty. But not that obvious. Or maybe it's a self esteem placebo?
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Wednesday, 9 November 2011 01:08 (fourteen years ago)
I'm sorry, this Sephora review is cracking me up:
I feel like this product does absolutely nothing. I can see no difference. I even wore it on only half my face one day to see if anyone else would notice - and they did not.
That is serious dedication!
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Wednesday, 9 November 2011 01:10 (fourteen years ago)
Ooh Sali the makeup guru just did a feature on primer: www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/nov/04/primers-sali-hughes-beauty
I am still dubious but I ordered a $10 Benefit primer sample set thing from Sephora just cos it was $10.
― kinder, Wednesday, 9 November 2011 01:13 (fourteen years ago)
Although my skin can get oily in places so I looked at the Urban Decay one she recommends on the Sephora site (guess who just signed up for the 'beauty insider' account) and it had lots of reviews saying it made skin even oilier. Ppl seem to rave about the Smashbox ones though.
― kinder, Wednesday, 9 November 2011 01:15 (fourteen years ago)
You can just wear a primer without anything over it? I've got this sweet sample of the Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Primer Potion that's been neglected in a drawer bcz I don't wear foundation/powder/etc.
― despite all my rage I am still just a Latter Day Saint (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 9 November 2011 01:16 (fourteen years ago)
OTOH the last thing I need help with is oilier skin, I really inherited my parents' Republican glands.
― despite all my rage I am still just a Latter Day Saint (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 9 November 2011 01:17 (fourteen years ago)
(this meaning my skin is oily and I don't want it to catch the extra oil kinder alleges will happen)
I don't allege! A small proportion of these people allege!
― kinder, Wednesday, 9 November 2011 01:21 (fourteen years ago)
haha sorry
― despite all my rage I am still just a Latter Day Saint (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 9 November 2011 01:21 (fourteen years ago)
make sure to smooth it on, not massage it in, Sali says.
