just1n3, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

Getting a haircut that you like the best feeling ever. I am counting the days.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

Short hair gets SO greasy. This is distressing.

WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Saturday, 29 October 2011 14:09 (fourteen years ago)

I have to wash my hair more often when it's at that length, like every other day. I can get a third day out of it if I pull it back from my face.

They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Saturday, 29 October 2011 14:38 (fourteen years ago)

I've been thinking about length vs. oil for awhile. When I first stopped daily shampooing, my hair was short and after the initial days of greasiness, I felt the need to shampoo once every week or so. That continued for as long as I kept getting it cut and trimmed. Once I let it grow out to where it is now (past collarbone by several inches), it's gradually changed to once a month or so. Is there an optimal length the sebaceous glands produce for? idk. Have also been thinking human carb cravings are plants' way of taking over the planet lately, so might just be turning into a crackpot.

Jaq, Saturday, 29 October 2011 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

jaq, do you use a boar bristle brush? i tried buying a cheap one but i'm not sure i like it. or do u use powder?

i've cut down to once a week, which gets greasy at the end, tho not unclean feeling like it used to be. my hair is pulled back anyway.

JuliaA, Saturday, 29 October 2011 14:50 (fourteen years ago)

I got 2 different natural bristle brushes - one is way too soft and doesn't get through to my scalp, but the other one is stiffer. I detangle with a nylon ball-end bristle brush I think of as a blowdryer brush (though it isn't really - too small and not curved), then do the 100 strokes thing with the boar bristles once or twice a week.

When I was doing the initial no-poo experiments, I made up a bunch of different dry shampoo formulas: baking soda, cornmeal, cornstarch, ground oats, cocoa, cinnamon, all mixed in various proportions. I liked oats and cocoa the best with a little baking soda, but they all made my head itch so I don't use them any more.

Jaq, Saturday, 29 October 2011 15:08 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I think maybe your head just produces the same amount of oil but since the stands are shorter the oil gets deposit is more concentrated? idk. Also I feel like you can just pull unwashed hair back and you can't do that with short hair. I feel a little bit better hearing this from others - at least I know it's not just me!

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Saturday, 29 October 2011 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

Probably gross but with really short hair, I could go a long time without washing it because the oil was just kind of like texturizer or styling product. Longer hair - yeah, I just put it up in some configuration and nobody's the wiser. I'm telling you - chin length to mid-neck length is the hardest to leave dirty. For me, the ends would look really ragged and limp and stringy, too. This doesn't happen when it's longer, or if it does, I can fix it by just brushing it.

They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Saturday, 29 October 2011 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

anyone tried Mason Pearson brushes? not sure i could ever drop $50-250 on a hairbrush.

just1n3, Saturday, 29 October 2011 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

Whoa. I couldn't spend that much money on a hairbrush without building it a little shrine in the bathroom.

Jaq, Saturday, 29 October 2011 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

i considered MP brushes, but yeah whoa with teh price. could not justify that expense, tho the reviews are glowing.

i bought this for $14 instead. orig got a cheaper one but it was too soft. (diane boar bristle brush at amazon)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41CieMX67EL._AA300_.jpgamazon link

haven't used it much, mostly because i can't be bothered. i dunno. seems a good brush tho.

JuliaA, Saturday, 29 October 2011 16:56 (fourteen years ago)

I got mine from Amazon too - this set of 2: link. I had got a spendier one from Ulta at one point, but it fell apart the first time I washed it. I've had this set for over a year.

I started using some argan oil every once in awhile - either stroke it onto my wet hair after detangling with a wide comb, or put a drop or two onto the brush bristles and go to town on dry hair. Seems to keep the frizz and static factors down.

Jaq, Saturday, 29 October 2011 18:16 (fourteen years ago)

i got my hair cut i got my hair cut! and 'glossed' darker! and...

despite all my rage I am still just a Latter Day Saint (Abbbottt), Thursday, 3 November 2011 01:13 (fourteen years ago)

does it make your hair soft? it looks really soft!

horseshoe, Thursday, 3 November 2011 01:16 (fourteen years ago)

from what i understand, it's semi-permanent and doesn't have ammonia in it and fades out differently than a permanent colour - something about adhering to hair differently, i don't know, but i won't have such extreme roots as with a permanent colour when hair grows. it's also really glossy! which my hair needed/"needed"
xp
very soft, yes! but that's also because it's been straight-ironed o_O might have to invest in a pro-quality straight iron - he said he'd order one for me if i wanted! aw friends with small salons :)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 3 November 2011 01:19 (fourteen years ago)

but he also said that he cut it so my natural curl/wave would work well and i'm to go back on friday for any adjustments

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 3 November 2011 01:20 (fourteen years ago)

That looks great! I want to see it with the curl/wave. I bet that is going to look pretty awesome, too.

They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Thursday, 3 November 2011 01:37 (fourteen years ago)

bene_gesserit, Thursday, 3 November 2011 13:25 (fourteen years ago)

bene_gesserit, Thursday, 3 November 2011 13:26 (fourteen years ago)

You're going under the scissors tomorrow, sister, don't speak too soon.

Yasmine Teeth (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 November 2011 13:57 (fourteen years ago)

It's an epidemic!!

WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Thursday, 3 November 2011 13:58 (fourteen years ago)

my hair is a total abomination right now. a lady at work was like "but a! you look great, you shouldn't be so hard on yourself" and i was like "lady, i am not trying AT ALL. i can do much better than this." it's like a cycle -- i give up on my hair, it looks like shit for ~ 1 yr, i realize that, i try harder, i get tired of trying, repeat.

currently in must try harder mode, starting next friday. cut AND color. ready for drastic change.

Yasmine Teeth (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 November 2011 14:11 (fourteen years ago)

"I can do so much better than this," hahaha, awww you're awesome.
I hate my stupid hair right now. Cutting off the dead ends was very necessary but I hate the length, kinda hate that it's not layered, hate the way my bangs fall.. a big MEH to my current cut. Grow, grow!

I wish I had the guts to do a shaved side! But my hair is VERY thin anyway, so probably a bad idea.

(I think it looks fantastic on your, Robyn!)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 3 November 2011 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

that errant R - I meant "you" obviously - but clearly you are meant to be "rRobyn"!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 3 November 2011 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

loooooooool Amanda. She's right, though, that lady.

WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Thursday, 3 November 2011 14:53 (fourteen years ago)

no way man -- she's not right. it's like my head is wearing the equivalent of sweatpants to work and she was trying to tell me that i should be proud? seriously.

Yasmine Teeth (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 November 2011 14:58 (fourteen years ago)

What she's right about is that you shouldn't be so hard on yourself, my little cabbage.

WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Thursday, 3 November 2011 15:08 (fourteen years ago)

I can accept that, but she's plum wrong about my hair looking "good" like this though :D

Yasmine Teeth (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 November 2011 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

i can't wait to see everyone's new haircuts! i guess it is haircut season!
finefine, yes, hair will grow, but i also feel like if you don't like your haircut, go get another one that is more interesting/you, because, yes, hair will grow anyway!

i have quite thick hair and so the shaving really works to tame it a bit and not have to blow dry all the time (because it is not only thick but kind of dry), so, like, shaving is actually a practical solution for my hair woes! lol.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 3 November 2011 15:37 (fourteen years ago)

That profile shot is album cover material imo.

WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Thursday, 3 November 2011 15:39 (fourteen years ago)

roobyn: I'm cheap! I already paid for this one - I'll wait a while to let it grow a little more (basically I get my hair cut every 2 or so dyes.. though she trims for free everytime) and then maybe get some layers cut back in. I'm just bitching and moaning for no good reason ;)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 3 November 2011 15:48 (fourteen years ago)

lol "roobyn"

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 3 November 2011 15:48 (fourteen years ago)

I am not planning any drastic haircuts but I do have my hair in a clip today. I had to replace my work ID and in the photo, taken 4 years ago, I have longish hair. My hair is longish now for the first time since I had that photo taken. The dumb, mean lady at the ID place kept insisting I needed a new photo because I had changed my hair. I actually pulled the clip out and shook out my hair (and whipped off my glasses and said "Is it hot in here or is it just you?" (just kidding this lady is an asshole)) because for some reason, "It's the same length. It's just up in a clip" was not registering.
