its actually darker than that but still muted
Well the magnetic effect isn't IN the polish, it's in the cap--right? Did I understand that correctly? The polish probably just has miniscule iron filings in it or something.
― WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Monday, 10 October 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)
Yes correct. But nailpolish doesn't travel sans cap
― I just got back from a dream attack (sunny successor), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:51 (fourteen years ago)
Oh I see I have not understood the situation: my nail polish doesn't travel. it lives in my make-up bag until I throw it away after a few years, practically unused.
― WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:57 (fourteen years ago)
im chip-a-phobic so it travels
― I just got back from a dream attack (sunny successor), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 16:36 (fourteen years ago)
um.. this is now the third time i've received a hair oil in my birchbox. are my preferences too narrow?
― tehresa, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 01:49 (fourteen years ago)
I would maybe try that. Also, if I were you I'd email them and ask not to receive a hair oil for a while. Just explain the situation and see what they say. Their customer service is supposed to be pretty great so it can't hurt. Right?
I after I review this month's box I'll have nearly $30 in bb points to spend. Can't decide whether to get a perfume or to get that crazy facial peel stuff. Hmmmmmmmmmm.
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 14:50 (fourteen years ago)
yeah i unchecked 'dry' from the hair prefs. how do you review? i can never find the place to review!
― tehresa, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 21:57 (fourteen years ago)
Oh man - T, you have to review! You get 10 points for every review and every 100 pts is $10 towards a purchase. You go to where it says "box" and your items for that month are displayed. If you click on the individual items it'll take you to another page where there's a description. There's a big pink "add to cart" button sort of near the top of the text (under the product name but before the description) beneath which it says "give feedback". If you click there a little survey will pop up. Unfortunately you can't review things retroactively - only for the current month. Let me know if that all makes sense.
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 22:26 (fourteen years ago)
grr! i tried to review something in current month (laura geller bronzer that is NOT for all skin tones! too dark for me!) but i couldn't find it.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 22:55 (fourteen years ago)
sweet i can still review last month's stuff.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 23:02 (fourteen years ago)

Here's one from my box. I circled the feedback link. You definitely have to go through the "Box" page and then click on the individual item in order for the link to show up. I remember having trouble finding it at first? Does that help?
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 23:03 (fourteen years ago)
ahhhhhh ok cool - you found it!!!
I didn't get the spackle btw. I was worried it would be too dark so I'm kind of glad but sorry it didn't work for you. :( All skin types my ass.
no i'm talking about the laura geller baked bronzer compact i got over summer. i wanted to review it right away to say it did NOT work for all skin types as advertised and i did not see a link anywhere. oh well... so i've now gotten 2 bronzing products from laura geller! weird.
i tried out spackle on my hand and it migiht be ok used very lightly but i haven't seen how it works on face yet. i just wish they had an option for VERY FAIR DON'T GIVE ME BRONZING PRODUCTS, PLZ under skin tone.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 23:08 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, the typical bronze-coloured bronzers and really fair people do not get along - i've tried bronzers and they do not make me look sun-kissed, they make me look like i have weird bronze make-up on my face!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 13 October 2011 02:11 (fourteen years ago)
they make me look dirty!!
― tehresa, Thursday, 13 October 2011 02:14 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, it didn't work for me either which is a shame because the powder itself is lovely. It just makes me look dirty rather than tan. I actually tried it again last week just to see and it was still awful. Wish we'd gotten one of the baked blushes instead. Oh well.
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Thursday, 13 October 2011 02:16 (fourteen years ago)
haha, yeah, like i have mud on my face! or fading bruises
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 13 October 2011 02:19 (fourteen years ago)
i have some bronzer in my Halloween make-up kit for those purposes, should they arise, however
Oooh, good call on the Hallowe'en makeup kit - I have a few bronzers from work and they make me look dirty too :( Bourjois has a spray one that worked to create the mildest of glows, but powdered face bronzer - I just don't understand it!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 13 October 2011 12:43 (fourteen years ago)
Tried the Syrup Mac lipstick, love it in theory, but have decided that lipstick in general makes me look about 15 years older :-(
― ljubljana, Sunday, 23 October 2011 19:47 (fourteen years ago)
All through high school, I was the only girl who wore lipstick.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 23 October 2011 20:14 (fourteen years ago)
I did my nails last night AND THEY'RE ALREADY CHIPPED.
― tokyo rosemary, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 15:42 (fourteen years ago)
i ordered the laura mercier tightline activator fluid from sephora bc of 20% off code (ty enbb) but not the eyeliner because sephora doesn't have the shade i want! so lol now i have fluid and no eyeliner. but it's motivating...
― tehresa, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 23:15 (fourteen years ago)
also i think i left my jouer lip stuff from last month's birchbox in my hotel room in michigan and i am v v sad now.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 02:31 (fourteen years ago)
I gave up on having long nails; I've gone back to cutting them down close to the quick like I was doing before. They still peel, but not as much as they were peeling. I'm assuming that there's some sort of genetic or environmental deficiency that makes my nails permanently fragile. I do paint them, but I'm worried that painting my ultra-short nails may make them look childish. What do you all think?
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 02:51 (fourteen years ago)
I love paint on short nails, really really glossy paint so they look like Chiclets.
― WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 02:52 (fourteen years ago)
I say paint them!
T I bought the full size of that stuff. I love it.
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 02:55 (fourteen years ago)
xp - I always keep my nails really short, close to the quick just like you, Christine. I type all day for a living so I can't stand having long nails. But I think nail polish looks just fine on short nails. I don't do it often, but when I do, I really like it.
You know what? I never told you all about Mascara Search 2011. Anyway, here are all the mascaras I tried:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-OKQvnxxb8bE/Tqd0vlcznSI/AAAAAAAAAkE/7MdfNbXtP-g/s640/photo.JPG
Most of the problems I had with the mascaras were that they were too clumpy, too huge, or they smeared all over my face by lunch time. In the end I went with Bobby Brown, which is a really natural looking mascara and just what I wanted to wear every day. However, I did buy some Voluminous waterproof to wear to a wedding (quincie's comment that it wears like iron kept running through my head) and I really like that for a special occasion mascara when I want big lashes.
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 02:56 (fourteen years ago)
That Nature Luxe mascara is complete shit, btw. That and Great Lash barely stayed on long enough for me to get to the train. My second favorite (and near winner) would have been Voluminous Million Lashes but it's scented! It's really off putting.
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 02:58 (fourteen years ago)
SCENTED? For when you really need your eyelashes to smell like...I can't even decide where to take this joke.
― WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 02:59 (fourteen years ago)
I'm married to various permutations of Voluminous. I bought waterproof mascara for the summertime and I'm still using it, but it's impossible to wash off and my make-up remover isn't cutting it.
It kind of smelled like honeysuckle. Seriously. I used it for a long time because every time I wasn't using it, I couldn't believe that it had a smell. Then I'd put it on and be like, "Yup. That mascara smells vaguely like honeysuckle."
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:00 (fourteen years ago)
Yay voluminous! I didn't notice a scent but I didn't like the million lashes one.
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:01 (fourteen years ago)
I only use the waterproof voluminous. Olive oil is a good remover btw.
I may have said this before, but jojoba oil is good, too.
― They're coming to get you, (Jenny), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:02 (fourteen years ago)
I solved the running mascara problem I had by stopping putting it on my lower lashes. I loved the doll-eyed look it gave me, but not having raccoon eyes was more important.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:05 (fourteen years ago)
guys did we have a big blush conversation at some point? help me! i have decided blush will complete my life if only i can figure it out. what do i do? which do i buy?
― horseshoe, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:07 (fourteen years ago)
talk to me like i'm a small child
nothing is too basic
I would start with some cheapies if I were you so you can figure out which sort of shade you like without spending a lot. Milani has some really nice ones. They're swirly - I think they're called "baked blush"es or something like that and they're probably < $5 a pop.
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:09 (fourteen years ago)
Don't necessarily be scared by something that looks really bright in the package either. A lot of times they're sheer and buildable once on the brush.
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:10 (fourteen years ago)
you are so smart that seems right! i will do that! if you happen to see a brown lady walking around and think "that shade of blush looks awesome on her!" please describe it for me itt!
xp i think my tendency would be to go overbright to be honest. i am tacky. but good to know.
― horseshoe, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:10 (fourteen years ago)
I'm careless with make-up; if I wear blush AT ALL, I just dab on whatever lip color I have around that's not too sticky.
― WE DO NOT HAVE "SECRET" "MEETINGS." I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND (Laurel), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:10 (fourteen years ago)
milani! i am so excited!
― horseshoe, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:11 (fourteen years ago)
I am not a Bobby Brown stan (I hate their powder, for example) but god damn do I love this Bobby Brown blush that I bought. I think the key is finding the right color and for that you probably need to talk to a makeup counter person.
I find that more expensive blush has more pigment in it and so a little goes a lot further. I have a similar color blush in some Mabelline line and I have to put on tons to even be able to see it. The BB blush I just kind of touch on my face and THERE IT IS.
That last bit is an XP. I'm kind of ridiculous when it comes to my willingness to spend $ on makeup, so take my advice with salt.
Christine, I never put mascara on my bottom lashes because you're right - it just goes everywhere! What's weird is that when my mascara does smudge, it only smudges on my left eye and always in the same place.

okay this blows my mind but OKAY! i can do this!
x-post - I used to do that. I wore a tiny bit of bright red Jane brand lipstick as blush for years. I remember my college roommates being like are you putting lipstick ON YOUR CHEEKS!?
― Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 03:12 (fourteen years ago)
i have a bobbi brown foundation that i mix with moisturizer to make a tinted moisturizer and i love that, so i am willing to believe her blush is good. maybe i can work up to that once i know a thing or two about a thing or two.
