max, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:09 (fourteen years ago)

max did you end up on that site because you like websites with miniature animated dudes who interact with you/wander around onscreen?

it would be a nice gesture if she laughed all the way to the bank and then drew out some money and bought you one.

gant rugger varsity jacket -- it's a nylon body instead of wool but it's p similar and it's on sale for ~$200 less than the ervell:

http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=20320982&CAWELAID=1003495375

elmo argonaut, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i like the wool though! also everything ive gotten from UO falls apart really fast

also real talk i cant really even afford a $100 jacket so while were *daydreaming* i might as well go for PE

max, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:25 (fourteen years ago)

also as i said i already have 3 different fall jackets + two sweatshirts + a number of flannels so its like the last thing i need

max, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

max, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

caek, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

max, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

so...... move to new york!

max, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

oy!

caek, Friday, 16 September 2011 14:49 (fourteen years ago)

I ordered that Weekend by Max Mara (secondary line, still $$$ but not ridiculous for something I will wear every day, every winter, for at least a decade)! It is shipping from the UK from a place called matches that looks like my kinda store. Crossing my fingers that the UK 12 was a good call. Anyhow, thanking u ilx for recommending max mara and thus drastically streamlining my search for a camel coat.

(Note: the coat is 49% wool, 33% alpaca, 12% nylon, 6% angora. Should be very warm with the alpaca in there!)

quincie, Friday, 16 September 2011 15:41 (fourteen years ago)

how much was shipping?

caek, Friday, 16 September 2011 15:50 (fourteen years ago)

forty five US bucks!

quincie, Friday, 16 September 2011 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

coats man. heavy shit.

caek, Friday, 16 September 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

yay q! hope it works out! i bet the UK 12 is right? i would have the same issue with uk size (10 or 12) and i usually err on the side of sizing up because if the shoulders don't fit, it's no good

also can i just make a comment: people are crazy. missoni for target? i know some of the crazy is just hype and marketing strategery but people! the stuff is still target quality and imo hideous! if you are going to troll ebay to buy missoni at a couple hundred a pop, dang, buy the real thing

daria-g, Friday, 16 September 2011 16:48 (fourteen years ago)

japanese teenagers gotta do SOMETHING to bide the time

max, Friday, 16 September 2011 16:49 (fourteen years ago)

the missoni thing is kinda funny, i had a friend who rapturously facebooked about the missoni lounge pants she scored. i mean. missoni lounge pants. c'mon.

Lamp, Friday, 16 September 2011 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

I kind of hate Missoni to begin with so I haven't understood this mania at all.

Octavia Butler's gonna be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised (Laurel), Friday, 16 September 2011 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

*sighs deeply*

max, Friday, 16 September 2011 17:54 (fourteen years ago)

Quincie: UK sizes are US+4 so US 6 = UK 10; US 8 = UK 12, etc
But my feeling is the actual fit depends on the store and usually on their range of sizes (so if the smallest they have is a size 2, that's likely to be similar to a size 4 in another shop where that's the smallest they run to).

With coats it's really hard anyway because I find sizing is often all over the place and depends on how thick it is, the cut, etc. 12 is probably fine!

kinder, Friday, 16 September 2011 18:03 (fourteen years ago)

UK sizes are US+4 so US 6 = UK 10; US 8 = UK 12

It's so weird because some websites state what you said and others say it's +2 which is what I said yesterday. So inconsistent. US 6 = 8, US 8 = 10 and so on. I've definitely found that +2 to be closer most often. Nearly everything would be way too big if I went by the +4 thing.

your mom the burrito (ENBB), Friday, 16 September 2011 18:08 (fourteen years ago)

For instance these two both do the +2

http://www.onlineconversion.com/clothing_womens.htm

http://www.asknumbers.com/ClothingWomensConversion.aspx

Whereas this one does the +4

http://www.fashion-411.com/Size_Conversions.htm

I guess though is we can't have standardized sizing across the industry within the country it would be ridic to expect international conversions to be consistent.

your mom the burrito (ENBB), Friday, 16 September 2011 18:12 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I checked here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clothing_size#Women
and 'dresses and suits' and 'women's clothes' are different! It's so dumb. Same as Quincie, I have managed to narrow my 'size' down to about 3 :-)

Hm, maybe that is why I've been finding clothes here generally too big, although I usually just look for the smallest size and that's often too big (and I'm not exactly a skinny waif) - I guess a lot of stuff is designed to be drapy or loose right now.

kinder, Friday, 16 September 2011 18:17 (fourteen years ago)

Thinking about it I probably learned the +4 thing solely from H&M labels...

kinder, Friday, 16 September 2011 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

how convenient that so many clothes are drapy and loose -- this means they don't have to actually "fit" and more people will buy them.
dislike.

some lady (La Lechera), Friday, 16 September 2011 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

Hm, maybe that is why I've been finding clothes here generally too big

No wait that doesn't work because I'm sizing back from US to UK sizes... ¯\(°_o)/¯

kinder, Friday, 16 September 2011 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

isn't this, like, one of the perks of dating same sex? sharing clothes?

yeah, sure, its more as elmo sd theres a weird territory btw 'want to smash' and 'want to dress/look like' thats sorta a queasy masturbatory thing going on a bit idk sorta outside the purview of this thread

Lamp, Friday, 16 September 2011 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

ya, i get that. i always think it's weird when you see twinsies walking down the street

jaxon, Friday, 16 September 2011 18:52 (fourteen years ago)
