elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

yeah they are expensive! but a good pair should last at least 3 years right?

dayo, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 21:22 (fourteen years ago)

Do they come in silver?? I might have those!

Octavia Butler's gonna be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised (Laurel), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 21:47 (fourteen years ago)

I don't think so :(
or at least not at Maryam Nassir Zadeh

homosexual II, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 22:35 (fourteen years ago)

I 'went for it' and got the iron rangers. surprisingly comfortable - from everything I read I thought I would have had to compression bandage my ankles for two weeks. now I am never going to buy shoes ever again

dayo, Monday, 12 September 2011 23:53 (fourteen years ago)

awesome! i want tough well-made shoes/boots like that too right now

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:12 (fourteen years ago)

Those are good looking boots.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:14 (fourteen years ago)

they really are.

i think i'm gonna break down and finally buy a pair of rubber boots, possibly Boggs?, i mean, they're just really practical for mucking around farms and fields and forests and places i seem to be finding myself in a lot (and destroying shoes in)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

aw thanks guys! they just ~feel~ really well made, the smell of full-grain leather is so intoxicating (yes I am losing a million veg points for saying that). wanted to get them in oro russet but I think that was a limited edition color run so I got them in 'amber' (deep brown) instead.

robyn maybe get some bean boots for mucking around in?

dayo, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)

also pro tip I got them from amazon for 20% off - no free return shipping so I kind of gambled, but even if I had to return them the discount would still have been worth it

dayo, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:40 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think i can wear bean boots - i grew up in the pacific northwest, man! and so have an aversion to them, like, they remind me both of little old ladies, cool ones mind you, gardening and stuff, and dudes who don't own work boots but have bean boots and go half-assed camping sometimes. i am unfair, i know.

my farmer friends and their farmer friends are all about the boggs - and you can get ones that are good in the winter cold! they are not the most stylish but damn i hate having cold toes.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 01:47 (fourteen years ago)

I'd really like a pair of the Hawthorne/roughout Iron Rangers, but the wide sizes stop at 12. Screw U Red Wing

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 02:04 (fourteen years ago)

these are supposed to run half a size to a size larger than usual - maybe go to a store and try them out?

dayo, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 02:10 (fourteen years ago)

I have wide-ish feet (never have to go to an EE but I can't wear most Adidas, for example) and I sized down half a size and these fit perfect

dayo, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 02:10 (fourteen years ago)

I tried on a pair of the brown ones - I'm a true 13EE in Red Wings and other boots, unfortunately.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 03:54 (fourteen years ago)

tempted by the red wings, a little higher than my current budget will allow though. really i ought to be going for some black boots i can get away with at the office/with a suit as well as out and about/with jeans.

Yo wait a minute man, you better think about the world (dog latin), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 10:16 (fourteen years ago)

Yo wait a minute man, you better think about the world (dog latin), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 12:09 (fourteen years ago)

Mandeez, I'm wearing my Lorenzo Masiero oxfords just like those gold ones but they're distressed crinkly silver. :)

Octavia Butler's gonna be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised (Laurel), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

i want to know what dog latin did with his boots

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

the zipper on the side got misaligned and just ran off it's track and won't go back on. Zips are the worst FTR.

Yo wait a minute man, you better think about the world (dog latin), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:48 (fourteen years ago)

seriously. i promised myself last year that i wld never buy a pair of winter boots with a zipper again - no matter how good the boot, the zipper never seems to last through winter's snow and salt and road crud.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:50 (fourteen years ago)

replacement zippers haven't lasted long either because the boot itself is already warped to yr walking ways or something i don't know :/

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:52 (fourteen years ago)

I have the ugliest winter boots and I hate them and the zipper is never going to break so I can get new ones.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 16:44 (fourteen years ago)

” accidentally” leave them on your door step overnight

just1n3, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe the boot fairy will exchange them for money?

StanM, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 19:46 (fourteen years ago)

Gilt.com has some awesome women's shoes today at seriously discounted prices! Get on it!

but not sure i can justify spending £210 or £325 on footwear in this economy.

you've got male (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 21:25 (fourteen years ago)

But just think, you'd not only be richer by all that money, but you would have spared yourself from owning incredibly ugly shoes.

Octavia Butler's gonna be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised (Laurel), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

pssssh

you've got male (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 21:34 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i'm sorry, those loafers are pretty bad but those boots are just horrible

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

q for those who have broken in boots before:

so just walking around at home in them they seem fine, comfortable, although I get the slightest bit of discomfort on my pinky toes because the boot may be a tad narrow. there's plenty of room in the toebox lengthwise. I've read that these boots will get slightly wider and shorter as they break in. is it worth it to order a half size up just to see the diff, or should I just 'deal with it', build up the callus on my pinky toes. they are comfortable in all other respects in the limited walking i've done in my home.

dayo, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 23:52 (fourteen years ago)

ah hell, it's not that big of a deal. just doing a little bit of online fretting. I'm gonna #DWI.

dayo, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 00:05 (fourteen years ago)

If the length is correct, order a wider size - you'll be way more comfortable in a EE. Wider boots can be laced tighter, narrow boots are probably never going to stretch enough to be really comfortable.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 00:43 (fourteen years ago)

tho if it's only on yr pinky toe and not the side of your foot, well, i've had that before and the shoe has stretched pretty quickly after some walking around

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 03:13 (fourteen years ago)

also OMG I LOVE those carlos campos shoes! i want them for meeeee

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 03:13 (fourteen years ago)

and those moccasins are great, jim, but i would say that - i actually really now have to find a new pair of the clark's moccasins i bought in the spring bc i was wearing them all the time and then somehow they became my camping and rain shoes and i have a feeling are teetering on the edge btwn acceptable and decrepit

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 03:17 (fourteen years ago)

i have boot angst

because my #1 desire right now are rag and bone harrow boots, but I do not have $550 to blow on such loveliness

http://www.rag-bone.com/store/productimages/regular/1885_black_fa.jpg

i might just get these from topshop, which are like $100...

i like how these are modern-looking yet you could probably go in a time machine to almost any time in the last 400 years and not look out of place
