Oh man guys that sucks. I wear a 10 and it's pretty bad but I know 11 is worse just from looking at selections. :( Weirdly though I've been fitting 9.5s in some shoes lately. idk. Anyway I was in an Office store in London once and asked to see the most excellent pair of mary janes I've ever found in my size and the fucking asshole of a sales clerk looked at me and said, in the most snotty voice imaginable, "We don't even make that size".

ladies love draculas like children love stray dogs (ENBB), Friday, 5 August 2011 13:40 (fourteen years ago)

Argh, kill kill! I hate snotty clerks. Like, there is NOTHING I can do to change my shoe size, don't judge me! Jenny.. you've scared me. I hope that mine don't get too much bigger!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 5 August 2011 13:43 (fourteen years ago)

I had bunions and then I had bunion surgery but I also have tailor's bunions so between the bone deformities and the hardware in my feet to correct the bone deformities, it's a wonder they aren't the size of loaves of Wonderbread. So don't worry!!! Unless you are full of bunions.

ENBB that clerk is the worst! What a snot. I got a similar "We don't carry ANY shoes in wide!" pile of snot from a clerk at one of those shoe stores that carry Danskos and Naots and Merril and whatnot. I mean, fuck you!

two weeks pass...

Jenny I got a new pair of Culture Phit mary janes for my cumpleaños and I wanted to see if you have been enjoying those red ones you got for the wedding. Mine are shockingly soft/pliable/comfortable/cute. Kind of pleased that I can wear heels on a more regular basis if I just get fancy padded comfort heels!!

they're kind of dull, tbh, but they're going to be my everyday go-with-everything shoes, so they can't be too splashy.

i drive a wood paneled station dragon (La Lechera), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 18:17 (fourteen years ago)

Whoa! I am wearing them today for the first time (I'm attending a benefit event tonight as L3slie's date so I thought I should put a little effort into it) so this is timely!

I can't walk in heels at all so it's kind of a challenge, frankly, but they are comfortable in that nothing is pinching or binding or rubbing. I just need to practice not looking like a lumbering beast. (also why I'm wearing them as I don't want wedding attendees to be like "great ceremony, but why did you have a clumsy rhinoceros perform it?)

I have contemplating additional purchases from this company.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

does I Love Style have a men's pants/"trousers" thread. I may need some help

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 18:47 (fourteen years ago)

Wow a clumsy rhinoceros typed that post with her rhinoceros thumbs, that's for sure.

Xp the Bonobos pants thread is kind of the ad hoc men's pants thread, sometimes.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

xp - I really like the ones I bought -- they're solid, attractive, and totally padded in the sole (waaay more so than any other heel I've ever worn). Let's see if I can wear them two days in a row without pain, but outlook is positive so far.

I think there is a trousers thread...not sure what it's called though?

Found my shoes, on sale for ridiculously low price at saucony.com ($26):

The zip's gone on my leather ankle-high boots that I wear to work. Got em from Schuh in London just over a year ago - how frustrating! Anyone know whether it's better to get them fixed or whether I should just buy new ones. They cost about £80 I think. If I buy new ones, can anyone recommend a good retailer, perhaps online that would sell me some smart/casual footwear that won't break or need replacing in a year's time? I get the impression Schuh are money for old rope. I'm not that rich, but I'd like to invest in something that'll last.

ANSWER ME!!

(please?)

Do you particularly like these boots? I would probably take them to a cobbler and see if they are even fixable. They might not be. Then get a price estimate and determine whether that's a better deal for you. £80 would be enough for me to seriously explore repair.

I can't really recommend other shoes as this is not my area of expertise.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 14:49 (fourteen years ago)

yeah - I'll ask a cobblers, but I'm sure last time something like this happened they said it would take 2 weeks and they'd have to import fancy zips from Lucitania that cost £50 or some shite. I've been recommended H by Hudson by a colleague.

That would be some shite. Have them put in other, sturdier (and hopefully cheaper) zippers, since these ones apparently keep breaking.

i need new boots. considering some red wing iron rangers, or something similar.

also considering these. any strong opinions out there???

dayo, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

i never got those boots! but i still think i want them.

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

yeah they are expensive! but a good pair should last at least 3 years right?

dayo, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 21:22 (fourteen years ago)

Do they come in silver?? I might have those!

Octavia Butler's gonna be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised (Laurel), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 21:47 (fourteen years ago)

I don't think so :(
or at least not at Maryam Nassir Zadeh

homosexual II, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 22:35 (fourteen years ago)

I 'went for it' and got the iron rangers. surprisingly comfortable - from everything I read I thought I would have had to compression bandage my ankles for two weeks. now I am never going to buy shoes ever again

dayo, Monday, 12 September 2011 23:53 (fourteen years ago)

awesome! i want tough well-made shoes/boots like that too right now

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:12 (fourteen years ago)

Those are good looking boots.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:14 (fourteen years ago)

they really are.

i think i'm gonna break down and finally buy a pair of rubber boots, possibly Boggs?, i mean, they're just really practical for mucking around farms and fields and forests and places i seem to be finding myself in a lot (and destroying shoes in)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

aw thanks guys! they just ~feel~ really well made, the smell of full-grain leather is so intoxicating (yes I am losing a million veg points for saying that). wanted to get them in oro russet but I think that was a limited edition color run so I got them in 'amber' (deep brown) instead.

robyn maybe get some bean boots for mucking around in?

dayo, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)

also pro tip I got them from amazon for 20% off - no free return shipping so I kind of gambled, but even if I had to return them the discount would still have been worth it

dayo, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:40 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think i can wear bean boots - i grew up in the pacific northwest, man! and so have an aversion to them, like, they remind me both of little old ladies, cool ones mind you, gardening and stuff, and dudes who don't own work boots but have bean boots and go half-assed camping sometimes. i am unfair, i know.

my farmer friends and their farmer friends are all about the boggs - and you can get ones that are good in the winter cold! they are not the most stylish but damn i hate having cold toes.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 01:47 (fourteen years ago)

I'd really like a pair of the Hawthorne/roughout Iron Rangers, but the wide sizes stop at 12. Screw U Red Wing

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 02:04 (fourteen years ago)

these are supposed to run half a size to a size larger than usual - maybe go to a store and try them out?

dayo, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 02:10 (fourteen years ago)

I have wide-ish feet (never have to go to an EE but I can't wear most Adidas, for example) and I sized down half a size and these fit perfect

dayo, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 02:10 (fourteen years ago)

I tried on a pair of the brown ones - I'm a true 13EE in Red Wings and other boots, unfortunately.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 03:54 (fourteen years ago)

tempted by the red wings, a little higher than my current budget will allow though. really i ought to be going for some black boots i can get away with at the office/with a suit as well as out and about/with jeans.

Mandeez, I'm wearing my Lorenzo Masiero oxfords just like those gold ones but they're distressed crinkly silver. :)

Octavia Butler's gonna be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised (Laurel), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

i want to know what dog latin did with his boots

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

the zipper on the side got misaligned and just ran off it's track and won't go back on. Zips are the worst FTR.

Yo wait a minute man, you better think about the world (dog latin), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:48 (fourteen years ago)

seriously. i promised myself last year that i wld never buy a pair of winter boots with a zipper again - no matter how good the boot, the zipper never seems to last through winter's snow and salt and road crud.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:50 (fourteen years ago)

replacement zippers haven't lasted long either because the boot itself is already warped to yr walking ways or something i don't know :/

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:52 (fourteen years ago)

I have the ugliest winter boots and I hate them and the zipper is never going to break so I can get new ones.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 16:44 (fourteen years ago)

” accidentally” leave them on your door step overnight

just1n3, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe the boot fairy will exchange them for money?
