your HAIR is AMAZING

jesus christ

it was pleasant and delightful, just like (La Lechera), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

You don't need to ask forgiveness for anything. You look great. I love that dress a lot and the hair is so fun.

I saw the movie Another World and all I saw through the whole movie was the actress's hair. It's so beautiful that it's all I could see. Your hair is like that too.

Aw shucks! Okay but seriously, this was my 3rd or 4th day doing the style, and it turned out particularly well, but I just used the directions from that youtube thing and went for it. It did take 1 hair elastic and 3 difft sizes of pins: giant 3" hairpins, little bendy hairpins, and bobby pins. And a fine-toothed comb and hairspray. That's it!

You also have a beautiful head of hair to work with! No amount of specially chosen bobby pins would give me that look, for reals.

I don't think I ever would have figured out how to put my hair up if I hadn't discovered these

GO GO GIANT HAIRPINS INDEED. Sorry. That's several times life-sized, fyi.

Laurel, don't take this the wrong way but I am pretty much going to attempt to become you right about... now. Love the hair, dress, figure, face!

Laurel! Your hair looks amazing! And damn right don't apologize because you have nothing to apologize for. You are seriously the flyest woman on earth.

It's obnoxious to tell you this, but I'm having self-criticizing issues right now so I'm going to say it: I also made the dress! Not recently but for a wedding many years ago.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG. That's obnoxious, but totally warranted. You are a marvel. A vision!

Do you get dressed up like that for work? I am such a slob.

it was pleasant and delightful, just like (La Lechera), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

Not every day, but I feel better if I get dressed up! I mean I like casual too, but my preference would be, like, pajamas-level casual. Or holey jeans and band Tshirts. And my boss criticizes if I stray too far one way or the other.

Ah! Amazing! I saw someone with those twirly bits at this posh party I went to and was desperate to do them myself but my hair is way too short.
BUT I have recently had p much the best haircut I've ever had. I can't stop touching it! I <3 my hairdresser so much. This is from someone who avoided hairdressers for years because they always got it WRONG.

kinder, Wednesday, 3 August 2011 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

ooooh, I wish I could make dresses. Why can't I make dresses?!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:02 (fourteen years ago)

Nice work on the dress!!!

Kinder, congrats on finding a good stylist. Hold him/her tight and never let him/her go.

x-post

ME TOO.

You can make dresses! Sewing basics are pretty easy. Making a fitted dress like Laurel's is more advanced but it's totally attainable. Check local community colleges for sewing lessons! /community college plug :)

ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:16 (fourteen years ago)

Everyone can make dresses! This one doesn't even fit particularly WELL, but it's held up for years and I wear it anyway.

People keep telling me that after the wedding I am going to be oh sooo booreed.. perhaps a sewing class is the thing for me! Hmmm!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

oh man, ladies have it so easy in the homemade clothes dept, relative to the mens

jackie tretorn (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:24 (fourteen years ago)

yeah but all the ladies clothes in stores are for sizes.. 0-4. approximately. we need to be able to sew :(

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

shirts are so complicated!

jackie tretorn (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

Lech: Deadpan haha no really. The back gaps because I'm narrow-shouldered and I didn't take in the center enough, the front gaps because the shoulders are sized for someone taller than I am, the waist is being cinched by my giant belt, and I made the hem too short so it's kinda above the knee where a 4-yr-old's dress would be. See! All those things wrong with it and it still looks okay! You, too, can make a badly fitted dress thing with a non-hidden zipper!!

Argh, I really want some cool up-do ideas but I fail at them. Anyone got any ideas? My hair is REALLY long (all the way to the bottom of my back), and it's heavy. I also have bangs. I have tried to follow tutorials but they all seem to have hair about just below shoulder length, and then when I attempt it mine is just too long to execute in the same fashion.

Shirts are insane. Menswear is a deadly, deadly trap which I will never meander too close to if I can help it.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

anyway, i just came here to say that i'm breaking up with my long hair. it's been a good run but lately i've been feeling... smothered. i've decided that we need to see less of each other.

jackie tretorn (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

I think the future of really REALLY long hair and up-dos is in braids, Mandee! Because braids shorten the overall length, so you get a thick braid that's not as long as the loose hair, and you need REALLY LONG hair to get long enough braids to wrap around your head or w/e. Can you french or fishtail braid?

it's not that print journalists don't have a sense of humour, it's just (Laurel), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

homosexual: could you possibly braid (?) the inner bulk of your hair, pin that down, then use the wisps from the edges to smooth over and make it bee-hivey? (I have NO experience with hair longer than my shoulders)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, don't bother with braids for that, it's all teasing under there. You'd just use less hair for the padded part and more hair for the comb-over, but the problem is that you still have to think of something to do with the ends. Which is where the one ringlet over the shoulder comes in, I think?

Mandee didn't I just "like" a pic of you with braids piled atop your head on FB the other day?

I wish my hair was long enough to braid or otherwise put up. I've considered growing it just so that I could do so but I just can't do it.

ladies love draculas like children love stray dogs (ENBB), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

I've gotten better at putting mine up because in the long run it's SO MUCH EASIER than leaving it down. Leaving it down requires more frequent washing, and some kind of style, which I do not have, and more haircuts, which I do not get because I'm disorganized and also cheap. Up-dos can hide a multitude of grooming sins. Also, weapons.

and i'm not sure which is more useful to me at this point in my life...

I learned those funny braids at summer (church) camp one year, but they were called "fishtail braids" so you are otm!
