FFM You are so cute. I know what you mean about defense -- I was the one with pretty skin for a long time, and now it's just...not as pretty. I can deal with it until I see someone with perfect pretty skin and I feel kinda crepey. (not creeeepy but like i am covered in filmy crepe)
here is a picture of me a couple of weeks ago in a happy outfit complete with purposeless headwrap and no makeuphttp://farm6.static.flickr.com/5315/5912405163_9e34e34730.jpg

aw amanda <3 <3 <3

that skirt is pretty short btwand no i do not live in a video production office, it just looks that way
― Fa la la (La Lechera), Thursday, 7 July 2011 17:45 (fourteen years ago)
haha tbh my skin is all porey and whatnot but the perks of my job = expensive foundation which lets me get back to porcelain skin. love that picture and outfit! <3 ohhh that skirt! I want it.
only pictures I can find without makeup are camping or brunch. I look fine, but my biggest problems are blonde eyelashes/brows, and general shinyness. for some reason I can't just do powder on skin - it feels 'wrong' if no foundation first!https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/photos-ak-ash1/v308/224/57/516053577/n516053577_706576_829.jpgcool temperature = no shine

― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 7 July 2011 17:47 (fourteen years ago)
i don't wear makeup daily but when i do i always opt for a little foundation mixed in with moisturizer over powder. i guess i'm a little shinier than might be optimal but powder on my skin makes me look like i'm dying
― horseshoe, Thursday, 7 July 2011 17:48 (fourteen years ago)
i don't wear the foundation over powder i meant i eschew powder altogether lol
― horseshoe, Thursday, 7 July 2011 17:49 (fourteen years ago)
xp - any kid should know that sitting in small high spaces is totally funwhat's wrong with that kid more like
― Fa la la (La Lechera), Thursday, 7 July 2011 17:50 (fourteen years ago)
i have been using bobbi brown foundation btw it is v good
― horseshoe, Thursday, 7 July 2011 17:51 (fourteen years ago)
of course today., when I want to contribute to this thread so badly, is the day I get told off at work for too much internetting
:(
― my ponies hate you (ENBB), Thursday, 7 July 2011 17:53 (fourteen years ago)
hope it wasn't serious!
― Fa la la (La Lechera), Thursday, 7 July 2011 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
No just a warning really. Bah. They should give me more fucking work then! hmpf. On lunch break. It might be better for me not to contribute to this discussion because all these issues are really huge for me but you're all adorable and I'm enjoying reading.
― my ponies hate you (ENBB), Thursday, 7 July 2011 17:57 (fourteen years ago)
oh no E! that is the worst. my old job was ruled by fear and I couldn't do any internetting for last 2 years :( this job? I met my boss online 5 years ago; when she hired me she was like 'yeah, do whatever, keep it on the down low' haha
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 7 July 2011 18:02 (fourteen years ago)
high spaces ARE fun, it's true. I was in a castle, sitting in a window in a turret! (Casa Loma in Toronto.. not really a castle, but all we've got)
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 7 July 2011 18:03 (fourteen years ago)
I went to Casa Loma once! The secret passages were closed for renovation or some shit, how renovated does a secret passage to the STABLES really have to be??!
― manager expects you to work past 6PM but won't allow you to change into (Laurel), Thursday, 7 July 2011 18:15 (fourteen years ago)
hahaha weird! They're not terribly exciting; you didn't miss much. Basically long creepy hallway, leads to marginally interesting stables :)
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 7 July 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)
Aw ENBB I've been hollered at in previous jobs for excessive internetting and it is a bad feeling. xoxo
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Thursday, 7 July 2011 18:37 (fourteen years ago)
My parents use to take us on vacations to Toronto, I have no idea why. Went to giant bookstore and Casa Loma and I don't remember anything else I don't think. Except the soda cans in the machines were smaller and cute! I saved that Sprite can for like 10 years.
― manager expects you to work past 6PM but won't allow you to change into (Laurel), Thursday, 7 July 2011 18:39 (fourteen years ago)
Weird, when was this? I have never noticed larger pop [:)] cans while in the US! World's Biggest Bookstore = awesome, a total lie in the age of big box stores however. I live about ten minutes from Casa Loma; an out of town friend came for brunch w/her two kids and we wandered Casa Loma with them. Fun times!

My last job banned using cell phones and personal electronics at work a few months before I left--but that was the fault of a few (well, a lot of) people who spent their entire shift talking on the phone. I just continued using my IPod Touch during the times that my client was asleep or otherwise occupied, just like I had been doing, and I never got in trouble.

Neutrogena had a similar lash dye that I used until it was discontinued.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 7 July 2011 19:25 (fourteen years ago)
Sunny! Have you used that? I saw it when I was browsing their website for ideas but the reviews were not great. But since I want abnormal things from a mascara maybe reviews are irrelevant?
Also I love the idea of a WDYOLL thread.
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Thursday, 7 July 2011 20:07 (fourteen years ago)
I think I remember the Neutrogena product, too.
If they banned smart phones at work there would be a riot. We had a free for all internet access policy until a guy spent much of his work time looking at porn (and did not lose his job mind you) so they put up filters. Smart phone ownership quadrupled overnight.

Shortly after I was told off at work a few years back, I got my iPhone and was all "hah I don't need you fuckers" and tweeted on my smoke breaks :D
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 7 July 2011 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
see, lexy's makeup pic upthread is exactly the look i would like to go for, but i just don't get foundation... i always look like a 5 yr old has painted my face, it makes me feel super self-conscious. do i just need to invest in a primer?
(also: lexy you are NOT fat! like, not even close, you goof)
― just1n3, Friday, 8 July 2011 00:56 (fourteen years ago)
well I have a hell of a belly lately, and I've always been heavy set. but very selective in my photos and how I dress my body ;)
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 8 July 2011 01:04 (fourteen years ago)
pffft don't believe you
― just1n3, Friday, 8 July 2011 01:06 (fourteen years ago)
and for the foundation, I mix it with some moisturizer and then rub it all over with my hands, I find it blends so that it doesn't create a 'mask' effect, then I dust it because I am always very shiny
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 8 July 2011 01:06 (fourteen years ago)
okay fine here's me at the cottage in a less than flattering outfit, except the belly is bigger now and the boobs didn't change (jerks)https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/photos-ak-snc1/v4537/233/18/504140275/n504140275_6935322_1987779.jpg
imagine that, but then I am 6'1" so I look like a giant around other girls

that photo only proves my point!!
― just1n3, Friday, 8 July 2011 01:16 (fourteen years ago)
lol well i do feel pretty! but much more so with makeup. the girls at my ofice are all tiny!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 8 July 2011 01:18 (fourteen years ago)
yeah i am by far the fattest of all the ladies i work with, so i feel you
― just1n3, Friday, 8 July 2011 01:19 (fourteen years ago)
that's the thing. it's all perspective, but i'm 6'1" and 215 in a 5'6" and 110 world
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 8 July 2011 01:24 (fourteen years ago)
many many xposts to Jenny, I will enjoy that blog - thanks!
I was actually later to work (though still a little early) than I intended this morning. Why? Because I started grooming my eyebrows and just couldn’t stop.
This has happened to me many times.
― ljubljana, Friday, 8 July 2011 05:22 (fourteen years ago)
i love all of you.
here are some lessons i learned yesterday:
1. my makeup may be too dark? based on a few different shots, apparently my face matches my décolletage, but my neck is whiter? this is nagl. i don't know what to! last weekend my friend said my foundation was perfect! hmm.
2. i do not do *action shots* (aka 'stand here and pretend like you're talking about x) and every single photo makes me want to cringe.
3. i need a hair cut. although pleased to find that the top of my hair looked shiny and pretty in most shots, the ends are atrocious. i may need to chop off a few inches and start fresh with a better maintenance routine. making an appt for tomorrow.
4. i need to stop making ridiculous faces (i do this unintentionally all the time and my bf always laughs about it) because i look insane/moronic and it ruined a bunch of shots.
5. *smizing* doesn't seem to work. i will never be a model.
― tehresa, Friday, 8 July 2011 11:53 (fourteen years ago)
I think the neck/decolletage/face disparity is normal, especially in summer. Necks tan less.
― ljubljana, Friday, 8 July 2011 12:22 (fourteen years ago)
I think so too! B0urj0is is just launching a spray-on tanner that the ladies around my office love/are fighting over! But I don't actually know if that's in America, or just Canada and Europe? But I'm lazy, so at best I might put a darker foundation on my neck but there's a 99% chance I just wouldn't bother. My legs are super pale this year though so I am hoping in a couple of weeks I'll get some of the BJS stuff when the next shipment comes in.
Got a D&G The One fragrance & lotion set today :D Ridiculous
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 8 July 2011 14:20 (fourteen years ago)
Hey, don't go taking all the color out of your normal skin, here. Necks ARE lighter than faces and etc and that's what the eye is accustomed to -- it's weirder than you think to be all one color!
― manager expects you to work past 6PM but won't allow you to change into (Laurel), Friday, 8 July 2011 14:21 (fourteen years ago)
Fair point! Like I said, I'm too lazy for that. All I ever look at is my face. :D
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 8 July 2011 14:24 (fourteen years ago)
also, photographs are not actually what we look like in real life!! cameras might be based on the human eye but they are not actually human
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 8 July 2011 14:56 (fourteen years ago)
I think this camera is the devil maybe?
― tehresa, Friday, 8 July 2011 14:58 (fourteen years ago)
like, i did a photography session with a friend back in early springtime, for a course he's taking - he had to do portraits in natural light. i srsly only had some concealer and a bit of mascara on! and was getting over a cold and all that winter time had caused to my poor dry skin. some of the photos were pretty good, somehow, but a lot of them were like No. The light, natural or otherwise, plus the capturing of a mere 1/500th of a second of yr self in action, causes a lot of things to happen to faces! weird things! i make a lot of hilarious faces too, but this is a part of who we are! do not change that for the tyranny of photography!xpsometimes!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 8 July 2011 15:01 (fourteen years ago)
that said, now i know to wear a full face of "natural looking" make-up for any and all natural-light photography sessions that might occur in future, or at least when the natural light is that dull winter's day blue-tinged business
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 8 July 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)
Yessssss, robyn has it. There are certain people that just don't look like THEMSELVES in photos because the thing that is "them" about their faces is the motion/expressions. I think this about ilxor bell labs all the time when I see pics, that she hardly ever looks the way I envision her. Have noticed it with someone else recently too. But anyway a small amount of that is always going to be in play, that we look a bit less "ourselves" when caught for that second unless we're caught in the middle of genuine emotion but still....
― manager expects you to work past 6PM but won't allow you to change into (Laurel), Friday, 8 July 2011 15:05 (fourteen years ago)
FFM, you look totally cute without make-up . . . I guess you just look cute in general.
― Virginia Plain, Friday, 8 July 2011 16:52 (fourteen years ago)
She does!
At the very least, I now have a hair appt for tomorrow so something good may come of this experience! And I will try my best not to cry at the thought of future googling that may yield my bio. I think my only stalker now lives with me anyway.
― tehresa, Friday, 8 July 2011 17:17 (fourteen years ago)
I had the most awful headshot taken for my work photo, and that went up in the office reception area so everyone who came into the office could see it. I looked like a fat 12-year-old-boy. I am the most un-photogenic person ever though, in that I always seem to get caught at a bad angle or making a dumb face.
― kinder, Friday, 8 July 2011 17:30 (fourteen years ago)
xxxxp: It could be worse--there are agencies that don't allow their aides to watch TV or play video games with their clients.
I've been looking for a good self-tanner to use on my legs, but all of the ones I can find are made to turn skin much darker than I want. I want my legs to be the same color as my arms and face. Any suggestions?
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 8 July 2011 18:43 (fourteen years ago)
i used the dove tanner before - it's okay. kind of yellow, though. st tropez is supposed to be amazing.
