I feel pretty--NOT! THE COSMETICS THREAD

xp It was me! She is a super sweet person. I got my fave new makeup tip there which is to use a couple of drops of jojoba oil on a damp cotton ball as makeup remover. It works great and is like eye moisturizer at the same time.

This morning I poked myself in the eye while applying mascara so I feeling u FFM!

xp to VP I think I feel younger, as I described myself (I'll be 29 in November) in part because all my friends are 3-4 years older than me, so I am The Young One. but at work most of my colleagues are 25-27 and wear very short skirts (I am like their easily offended aunt some days) and it's pulling me to a place I've never really experienced since the only people I ever knew who were younger are my siblings!

aw yeah, montreal has the same issue as NYC re: being in our 30s. i mean, i still go to rock shows and dance parties, why not. but it's bc they're still being put on my people in their 30s and 40s! this is true urban living imo. we will see how i feel at 40...

yeah, this has been the year where, though i haven't gained any weight, i can suddenly no longer wear the 'cute' trendy sundresses. maybe because they all look like what i wore when i was 8! srsly. i need form-fitting, tailored stuff. and belts.

rrobyn, the skin situation sucks. I have been pretty lucky in that I do whatever to my skin, tons of product, 'body' sunscreen, whatever and it usually behaves. a few more pimples lately - including two on my neck right now 0_o - but I'll deal. I am in the Laurel pattern where I would *probably* be presentable, myself, capable without makeup.. but no one ever sees that (though if I am at home all weekend, or camping, I don't bother..)

on a completely different topic I am going to Mtl for a few days as part of my honeymoon! Old QC for the rest. why are your hotels so EXPENSIVE? sigh

But I also work for the makeup company now so it's becoming more of a forefront in my mind. I want to experiment but.. blah. I've got this real thing for red hair, red lips, red nails. I can't shake it! VP's comment.. "Japanese style," I never thought of it that way! But it is, kind of! And my closest work friend/confidante is Korean & does the same.. but she wears false eyelashes to work!

It is so hard to find classic, inexpensive dresses. All I want is something that doesn't come with ruffles, bows, extraneous buttons or tiered hems.. just give me classic dresses!!

I get paid tomorrow AND I have the day off (although I have like eleventy chores to do so...). On my list to buy SOON:

* A new white soft pencil with a little shimmer because I've sharpened mine down to a nub, any brand that works.
* Finally try expensive mascara! It has to be the DiorShow, doesn't it.
* A gold pencil with shimmer? I should try warming things up.

Maybe some kind of blush, which I don't otherwise wear. Everyone loves the NARS, yes? They make a color called "Deep Throat", though, which grosses me out so badly I kinda don't want their blush anymore.

I rep hard for Bobbi Brown blush. Nars colors don't work as well for me and shimmery blushes make me look like a greasy 50s scifi alien.

It's J-style, because it is understated and cute. I once watched a Japanese schoolgirl spend 20 minutes on the train applying make-up, and when she was done you couldn't tell that she done anything to her face at all, but she looked great. Hero.

I guess I still dress like a 20 year old--today I'm sort of dressed like a pregnant preschooler.

See, descriptions like that are why I want a WDYOLL thread, haha!

FFM You are so cute. I know what you mean about defense -- I was the one with pretty skin for a long time, and now it's just...not as pretty. I can deal with it until I see someone with perfect pretty skin and I feel kinda crepey. (not creeeepy but like i am covered in filmy crepe)

haha tbh my skin is all porey and whatnot but the perks of my job = expensive foundation which lets me get back to porcelain skin. love that picture and outfit! <3 ohhh that skirt! I want it.

only pictures I can find without makeup are camping or brunch. I look fine, but my biggest problems are blonde eyelashes/brows, and general shinyness. for some reason I can't just do powder on skin - it feels 'wrong' if no foundation first!

i don't wear makeup daily but when i do i always opt for a little foundation mixed in with moisturizer over powder. i guess i'm a little shinier than might be optimal but powder on my skin makes me look like i'm dying

i don't wear the foundation over powder i meant i eschew powder altogether lol

oh no E! that is the worst. my old job was ruled by fear and I couldn't do any internetting for last 2 years :( this job? I met my boss online 5 years ago; when she hired me she was like 'yeah, do whatever, keep it on the down low' haha

high spaces ARE fun, it's true. I was in a castle, sitting in a window in a turret! (Casa Loma in Toronto.. not really a castle, but all we've got)

I went to Casa Loma once! The secret passages were closed for renovation or some shit, how renovated does a secret passage to the STABLES really have to be??!

hahaha weird! They're not terribly exciting; you didn't miss much. Basically long creepy hallway, leads to marginally interesting stables :)

My parents use to take us on vacations to Toronto, I have no idea why. Went to giant bookstore and Casa Loma and I don't remember anything else I don't think. Except the soda cans in the machines were smaller and cute! I saved that Sprite can for like 10 years.

Weird, when was this? I have never noticed larger pop [:)] cans while in the US!
World's Biggest Bookstore = awesome, a total lie in the age of big box stores however. I live about ten minutes from Casa Loma; an out of town friend came for brunch w/her two kids and we wandered Casa Loma with them. Fun times!

My last job banned using cell phones and personal electronics at work a few months before I left--but that was the fault of a few (well, a lot of) people who spent their entire shift talking on the phone. I just continued using my IPod Touch during the times that my client was asleep or otherwise occupied, just like I had been doing, and I never got in trouble.

Sunny! Have you used that? I saw it when I was browsing their website for ideas but the reviews were not great. But since I want abnormal things from a mascara maybe reviews are irrelevant?

I think I remember the Neutrogena product, too.

If they banned smart phones at work there would be a riot. We had a free for all internet access policy until a guy spent much of his work time looking at porn (and did not lose his job mind you) so they put up filters. Smart phone ownership quadrupled overnight.

Shortly after I was told off at work a few years back, I got my iPhone and was all "hah I don't need you fuckers" and tweeted on my smoke breaks :D

see, lexy's makeup pic upthread is exactly the look i would like to go for, but i just don't get foundation... i always look like a 5 yr old has painted my face, it makes me feel super self-conscious. do i just need to invest in a primer?

well I have a hell of a belly lately, and I've always been heavy set. but very selective in my photos and how I dress my body ;)

and for the foundation, I mix it with some moisturizer and then rub it all over with my hands, I find it blends so that it doesn't create a 'mask' effect, then I dust it because I am always very shiny

okay fine here's me at the cottage in a less than flattering outfit, except the belly is bigger now and the boobs didn't change (jerks)

I was actually later to work (though still a little early) than I intended this morning. Why? Because I started grooming my eyebrows and just couldn’t stop.

This has happened to me many times.

i love all of you.

here are some lessons i learned yesterday:

1. my makeup may be too dark? based on a few different shots, apparently my face matches my décolletage, but my neck is whiter? this is nagl. i don't know what to! last weekend my friend said my foundation was perfect! hmm.

2. i do not do *action shots* (aka 'stand here and pretend like you're talking about x) and every single photo makes me want to cringe.

3. i need a hair cut. although pleased to find that the top of my hair looked shiny and pretty in most shots, the ends are atrocious. i may need to chop off a few inches and start fresh with a better maintenance routine. making an appt for tomorrow.

4. i need to stop making ridiculous faces (i do this unintentionally all the time and my bf always laughs about it) because i look insane/moronic and it ruined a bunch of shots.

5. *smizing* doesn't seem to work. i will never be a model.

I think the neck/decolletage/face disparity is normal, especially in summer. Necks tan less.
