gbx did u already get ur shoes? fyi if you like the chukka silhouette you can get it in beeswax with soles besides the crepe rubber, if u want something slightly more formal
― ☂ (max), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:27 (fifteen years ago)
*beeswax leather

― ☂ (max), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:30 (fifteen years ago)
ya, get non-suede versions but we've all already decided that for you
― jaxon, Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:36 (fifteen years ago)
the rubber soles are "informal" too
i guess if you get a chukka boot in hard leather and wood soles youve basically got yourself a semi-formal boot so maybe that misses the point

Bought yesterday, wearing now...improbably!

Lech, I like those first ones so much! Wish I could see them on you.
― you're in the club and the light hits your ass like pow (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:08 (fifteen years ago)
Holy crap - how high are those platforms?!
Jealous! If I tried to wear them I'd be a) over 6 feet tall and b) crippled in approx 5 mins.
― \(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:15 (fifteen years ago)
Well I'm short. But also the heels on them aren't all that high once you subtract the basic platform? Plus the leather is really soft and conform-y and you're well strapped in so there's no wobbling or things coming off or cutting in. All of which makes them surprisingly great.
― you're in the club and the light hits your ass like pow (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:22 (fifteen years ago)
i don't think i've ever seen you wear shoes that high, l!
― tehresa, Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:23 (fifteen years ago)
Probably not! I have a pair of black Via Spigas in that range but hardly ever wear them. These shoes and the other pair of more formal platforms I bought this wkend were inspired by walking around Soho with Rrrobyn and looking at all the fashiony girls wearing improbable shoes.

clarks desert boots are way cheaper on amazon btw. i love zappos but their lack of price matching sucks

x-post - What do the other ones you got look like, L? Living vicariously through your awesome shoe purchases. ;)
― \(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)
Aww! I can't remember the name of the others, will find out tonight. Basically both pair are more contemporary/run the danger of being trashier than I would normally hazard. But I was in the mood, I guess.
― you're in the club and the light hits your ass like pow (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:42 (fifteen years ago)
The thing with the warm tan ones above is that they're close to skin color, so they blend in as more of a neutral. The same shoe in black would cut my ankles up visually and probably make me seem even stubbier.

That was the picture that made my legs look the least deformed. It's hard to take a picture of one's own shoes while they're on the foot.

So Laurel helped me pick out some shoes that arrived last night.
They were $20 and will probably fall apart in like 2 weeks and they are also by FERGIE but I don't care because I love them. Also, I gotta say that I think I'm feeling p fergalicious and I think I kind of love it.

<3 <3!!
There were other cute ones too but I love the white piping on those.
― you're in the club and the light hits your ass like pow (Laurel), Friday, 1 July 2011 14:37 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, me too!!
They actually fit my big-ass feet really well and are really comfortable so far. I am plesantly surprised.
I also got the ones that were fake cork - i don't know if you remember those. They're good too! win/win.

Could I get some shoe help? I'm officiating a wedding in September and here is the dress I'm going to wear:
http://www.elizaparker.com/product_images/c/552/Eliza_Parker_Nantucket_Dress_Navy_Front__15574_zoom.jpg
I'm pretty sure I'm going to change the buttons to lighten it up a little bit, but I don't have any picked out.
So what shoes should I wear?
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Sunday, 31 July 2011 17:53 (fourteen years ago)
how much are you willing to spend?
― it was pleasant and delightful, just like (La Lechera), Sunday, 31 July 2011 18:02 (fourteen years ago)
Depends on the shoes. If they are not something I'm going to be able to wear regularly (anything with much of a heel, anything pointy, anything I can't put a custom orthotic in), then I don't want to spend much since I'll probably end up selling them on Ebay or giving them away. :/
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Sunday, 31 July 2011 18:05 (fourteen years ago)
are you wearing any jewelry with the outfit?
― just1n3, Sunday, 31 July 2011 18:07 (fourteen years ago)
Probably not any statement jewelry. Maybe a pin, depends on the buttons. Most likely scenario will be silver hoop earrings.
Re: price, don't worry about that too much. My normal shoe buying criteria are extremely practical, and I tend to shell out $$$ for a pair of shoes that I wear almost exclusively for a year or two, so I don't really know how to buy shoes for occasions. I'm mostly looking for style and color ideas, and then I'll take that information and use it to buy something that is orthopedically and financially appropriate.
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Sunday, 31 July 2011 18:10 (fourteen years ago)
i've been mulling these over lately
aerosoles "minor role"

maybe they would work? they're a little fruity, i know, but you know me.
― it was pleasant and delightful, just like (La Lechera), Sunday, 31 July 2011 18:11 (fourteen years ago)
Those are very you! Love the ribbon.
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Sunday, 31 July 2011 18:14 (fourteen years ago)
ha, that style was the same thing i was going to suggest!
― just1n3, Sunday, 31 July 2011 18:26 (fourteen years ago)
i think 'fruity' is good if you won't be wearing statement jewelry
― just1n3, Sunday, 31 July 2011 18:27 (fourteen years ago)
Okay, I'm going to run a few things by you folks if you don't mind. Some of these are out of my price range, but I'm throwing them out there for style critique. Sorry for the billion links. I would post images instead, but I'm at work and had to do this on Ye Olde iPhone.

Also - color. I am clearly attracted to red shoes, but that might be just because I'm attracted to red shoes in general. Would red shoes work for this dress? If not, what color should I look for? (Shameful confession: all of my shoes are black with the exception of one pair of red sneakers. It's just easier that way.)
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Monday, 1 August 2011 16:28 (fourteen years ago)
Jen!!! I think red shoes would be DELIGHTFUL with that dress. Let me get to my lunch period and then give those shoes a good look. But you know I'm going to nay-say anything with apparent plastic/rubber elements. Like if I can tell from a computer monitor that the heel and sole are man-made materials, then no.

Errr what else are the soles supposes to be made of?
I'm glad you are weighing in, Laurel.
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Monday, 1 August 2011 16:38 (fourteen years ago)
Leather. :)
― it's not that print journalists don't have a sense of humour, it's just (Laurel), Monday, 1 August 2011 16:41 (fourteen years ago)
Or they should at least be covered with it, or another natural material, imo.

― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Monday, 1 August 2011 16:45 (fourteen years ago)
the rolling hills pumps are others that i've considered for fall work shoes! i like them a lot. red would work nicely with this dress. i also think at least a moderate heel is necessary for dressiness.
― it was pleasant and delightful, just like (La Lechera), Monday, 1 August 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)
Sorry, I was rushed and on the phone and stuff, I don't care what SOLES are made of, though leather is still nicer. But I don't like to see plastic heels, or big rubber bumpers around the sides, or whatever. Anyway!
I like these http://www.onlyaeroshoes.com/store/image/130600358211715/aerosoles-rolling-hills-lt-tan-leather-a-pump-shoe-for-women/
