anyway, i think clark's desert boots are a-ok as long as you get them in a darker colourxp yes!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Sunday, 19 June 2011 22:58 (fifteen years ago)
Those desert boots remind me of the hippie doctor from the ER vets show on Animal Planet. Maybe that's what you're going for? How much do you have to kind of subvert your own style to the tastes of snooty residents at this point in your medical career? (Like, it's just a given that even the hippiest of hippie lawyers have to own and wear a plain suit w/ sensible shoes sometimes, regardless of our style/preferences, so I don't know if that's how it works for doctors, too.)
― phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:01 (fifteen years ago)
enh, since i'm planning on general practice at this point, i could basically start wearing tie-dye and sandals all the time if i felt like it
― all the pretty HOOSes (gbx), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:03 (fifteen years ago)
Oh, well fuck it. Get the desert boots.

― all the pretty HOOSes (gbx), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:04 (fifteen years ago)
hippie doctor look a+ in my book!xplol!srsly though, it's a good idea to have a pair of comfortable shoes that are not cons or hiking boots
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:04 (fifteen years ago)
it was weird, i recently decided on this general practice thing and it was like "oh yeah that seems right" and sort of a relief but sometimes i wonder if it was mostly motivated by a desire to just be a dude
― all the pretty HOOSes (gbx), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:05 (fifteen years ago)
I think we have discussed how much you look like a younger version of my GP (who is also the official doctor of Chicago ILXors in that I think like five or six of us are his patients haha) and I could see him rolling in desert boots.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to just be a dude, plus a good GP is a wonderful thing.
― phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:07 (fifteen years ago)
like tomorrow i am volunteering with a former surgeon who spent 30 years in the congo being a g-d hero and who now works p much exclusively with alcoholic native american transients doing plain-old medicine and the email i got explicitly discouraged formal wear and recommended jeans and even though, you know, a preferential option for the poor is v much a thing i am into, i'm basically just in it for the jeans

― america's next tot mom (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

@gbx - clarks are fine if a little informal imo, if you still care
― "what a great post" - some (Lamp), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

― jaxon, Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:25 (fifteen years ago)
gbx did u already get ur shoes? fyi if you like the chukka silhouette you can get it in beeswax with soles besides the crepe rubber, if u want something slightly more formal
― ☂ (max), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:27 (fifteen years ago)
*beeswax leather
elmo go with the bucks
― ☂ (max), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:30 (fifteen years ago)
ya, get non-suede versions but we've all already decided that for you
― jaxon, Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:36 (fifteen years ago)
the rubber soles are "informal" too
i guess if you get a chukka boot in hard leather and wood soles youve basically got yourself a semi-formal boot so maybe that misses the point
― ☂ (max), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:38 (fifteen years ago)
Bought yesterday, wearing now...improbably!

Lech, I like those first ones so much! Wish I could see them on you.
― you're in the club and the light hits your ass like pow (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:08 (fifteen years ago)
Holy crap - how high are those platforms?!
Jealous! If I tried to wear them I'd be a) over 6 feet tall and b) crippled in approx 5 mins.
― \(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:15 (fifteen years ago)
Well I'm short. But also the heels on them aren't all that high once you subtract the basic platform? Plus the leather is really soft and conform-y and you're well strapped in so there's no wobbling or things coming off or cutting in. All of which makes them surprisingly great.
― you're in the club and the light hits your ass like pow (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:22 (fifteen years ago)
i don't think i've ever seen you wear shoes that high, l!
― tehresa, Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:23 (fifteen years ago)
Probably not! I have a pair of black Via Spigas in that range but hardly ever wear them. These shoes and the other pair of more formal platforms I bought this wkend were inspired by walking around Soho with Rrrobyn and looking at all the fashiony girls wearing improbable shoes.
― you're in the club and the light hits your ass like pow (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:27 (fifteen years ago)
clarks desert boots are way cheaper on amazon btw. i love zappos but their lack of price matching sucks
― am0n, Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:30 (fifteen years ago)
x-post - What do the other ones you got look like, L? Living vicariously through your awesome shoe purchases. ;)
― \(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)
Aww! I can't remember the name of the others, will find out tonight. Basically both pair are more contemporary/run the danger of being trashier than I would normally hazard. But I was in the mood, I guess.
― you're in the club and the light hits your ass like pow (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 June 2011 15:42 (fifteen years ago)
The thing with the warm tan ones above is that they're close to skin color, so they blend in as more of a neutral. The same shoe in black would cut my ankles up visually and probably make me seem even stubbier.

That was the picture that made my legs look the least deformed. It's hard to take a picture of one's own shoes while they're on the foot.
