I do the same with the bottom. I also like using the darkest of the eyeshadow shades im wearing instead of black.

It's def more dramatic, better for evening. It can kind of wash me out if I'm not wearing bright colors or don't have something else going on, because I'm pale with no color in my brows and my lips are naturally very faint, too, so basically my face has no contrast. So I would have to balance out the under-eye make-up with bright clothing or jewelry, but I do it occasionally.

Back up the lesbian canoe (Laurel), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

I've gone back to powdered white eyeliner, but this time I'm using a wet brush to apply it, not a dry one like I was using earlier.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 18:19 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks all! I guess I am looking for something subtle. I feel really ambivalent about makeup in general.. if it's obvious makeup, I feel like on me, it looks dumb! tbh when going out if I actually try to do the makeup thing eg eyeliner/mascara/shadow I usually have some kind of bug out about it looking silly and then can't leave the house.

daria, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

I apparently have too light a hand with makeup. Makeup that I think looks too garish on me looks too light to everyone else.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

I think if you are not used to seeing yourself with makeup, the contrast between the mirror & your mental self-image makes you think you look garish. But I highly doubt any of you infrequent makeup wearers look like Divine or something when you do wear it.

the 'hip' thing nowadays — gay Mormon missionaries (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 16:08 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not an infrequent makeup user--I've been wearing it practically every day since I was 12.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 16:33 (fifteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

I did my eyeliner the triangle way instead of with big wings! Probably no one but me would notice that it's different, but I feel different. And actually it was a lot easier to get the sides the same. Recommend.

Back up the lesbian canoe (Laurel), Thursday, 28 April 2011 13:52 (fifteen years ago)

Wait what's the triangle way?!

Went to Mario B counter at L&T and bought two things. Came out of there with SEVEN samples in addition to my purchases! Those people are nuts, in a great way.

i broke down and subscribed to birchbox!
but now i have to wait til june to get my first box :(

tehresa, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

What is Birchbox?!

~intrigued~

Got a NARS gloss pencil thing last weekend and it may be the best lip product ever. Just FYI.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 20:57 (fifteen years ago)

https://www.birchbox.com/

$10/month gets you a v v pretty box of 4-5 product samples.
what a genius way to get people to pay for samples that should be free! hah. i am a sucker.

tehresa, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

That looks pretty good! Sucks that you have to wait til June. I might not be in the States for that many more months otherwise I'd probably give it a go.

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 00:39 (fifteen years ago)

xp There were subscription (grocery) sample services in the Seventies, but those were scams to get you signed up to junk mailing lists. I'm assuming that this is a little different, though.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 23:20 (fifteen years ago)

totally stoked - apparently they shipped me a may box so i don't have to wait til june :)

tehresa, Thursday, 12 May 2011 18:33 (fifteen years ago)

!!!

I am gonna do this, I think.

I wonder if I could still get a May box. Might just wait a couple weeks so it doesn't seem like too long a wait.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Thursday, 12 May 2011 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

birchbox is pretttty. the wrapping is so nice and luxurious. the packaging is super well-done.

i got a stila eyeshadow, bulgari perfume sample, a travel size hand cream, and a travel size bar of some fancy soap. plus some other marketing cards/offers. from a business standpoint, i'm so impressed by this company. it's so genius. i will need to see if i can tweak my preferences a bit because i think i said i'd be open to trendy things and this eye shadow color is def trendy (mimosa!) but i don't know if i will ever be able to use it.

tehresa, Friday, 13 May 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

nice! i knocked my stila palette off the counter this morning and all the shadows just shattered into dust. i almost cried.

;_;

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Friday, 13 May 2011 20:21 (fifteen years ago)

oh noooo :(

tehresa, Friday, 13 May 2011 20:25 (fifteen years ago)

scoop them up. add a few drops of alcohol to make a paste, smush them back into their holes and let dry.

kate78, Friday, 13 May 2011 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

dang. too late :(

Serial Chiller (sunny successor), Friday, 13 May 2011 21:57 (fifteen years ago)

I am on a make up message board, and all the posters are sad they didn't get the stila eyeshadow, tehresa!

tokyo rosemary, Saturday, 14 May 2011 04:35 (fifteen years ago)

But it is BRIGHT ORANGE! I feel like only those with skin 6 shades darker than I would be able to use it. Maybe I am wrong?

tehresa, Saturday, 14 May 2011 14:35 (fifteen years ago)

no i think you're completely right! not an easy color to wear

daria-g, Saturday, 14 May 2011 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

the bulgari scent, though, is lovvvely. jasmin noir. floral, but not overpoweringly so.

tehresa, Saturday, 14 May 2011 21:33 (fifteen years ago)

welp. just joined the birchbox bandwagon.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Monday, 16 May 2011 17:11 (fifteen years ago)

I just bought the Smashbox Softbox eye palette that Sephora sent out an email about and it is so pretty! There's always one color in a palette that I would never wear but these are all really nice.

yay! I love their stuff so much.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 26 May 2011 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

I've never used it. It came with primer and cream eye liner. Scary but exciting.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 26 May 2011 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

oh the primer is SO good!! I find it really makes the stuff stick around for a long time. I have a pencil eyeliner by them that I like enough but next purchase is liquid liner.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 26 May 2011 20:28 (fifteen years ago)

Any white liquid liners to recommend?

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 29 May 2011 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

ladies upthread you mention dermablend re: tattoo coverup. My sister has a big TWLOHA tattoo on her arm and just got a job in an amusement park. She bought a few long-sleeve shirts but it's going to be hot working outside this summer so I'd like to pick her a tube up.. is this what we need? Any better options?

& I guess she would put regular concealer over that? Does it need to be used in conjunction with proper dermablend concealer? What did y'all do? thank you!! /untattooed

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 16:29 (fifteen years ago)

I recently read an article somewhere about a spray-on tattoo cover up, but now I can't remember what it was or where I saw it. The author loved the stuff, however.

PS I am in love with this Smashbox palette! It is super fun. Who would have guessed I would end up a superfan of taupe cream eyeliner?? Not me!

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 16:32 (fifteen years ago)

Jenny which palette is it?

FFM I this I used this stuff to cover up one that was visible in my wedding dress:

http://www.dermablend.com/foundations/foundations-severe-flaws/leg-body-cover.htm

It worked amazingly.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 16:48 (fifteen years ago)

hmmm! well I guess I will have to make my First Trip to Sephora 0_0 thanks ladies!!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 16:49 (fifteen years ago)

OMG YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN TO SEPHORA?!

I can't find a better pic right now but

http://i53.tinypic.com/5ajs3p.jpg

You can't see anything on my upper back, right? That's because Dermablend is AWESOME.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 16:55 (fifteen years ago)

Oh and I hear the lol Kat Von D one is supposed to be good but idk from experience.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

crazy!! man I should buy that stuff for my pimples! ;)
no I have never been to Sephora.. just walked past.. too expensive for my tastes! I got lucky: I was a CoverGirl girl all the way then I got this job that gives me free SBX, so I get to grow up makeup wise without paying retail! hahaha. sadly Dermablend is not one of our clients!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

and I love whatever is going on with your headpiece there! :D

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

so jealous of your job

man

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:02 (fifteen years ago)

it's not daily or anything.. but new products get distributed and we get $500 (rtl) worth of product of our choice twice a year! So I am going to have to stick around here for a few years and stock up ;)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:04 (fifteen years ago)

x-post - oh thank you!! It was a satin ribbon that the hairdresser used as a headband and then tied into this neat bow thing at the back. It was sort of poofed up 60s style at the top/back. Last minute idea that worked really well in the end.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:04 (fifteen years ago)

yeah it looks super cute! creeping on your FB wedding photos now tbh. heh. love how you look(ed)!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

Aww thanks lady. :)

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:09 (fifteen years ago)

ENBB, I didn't know you were married!

It's the Softbox palette. Sephora sent out an email last week and got me during a period of low consumer resistance.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

ooh can't wait for my new birchbox!
