If you're thinking about something like Grecian Formula, keep in mind it's a lead acetate solution and only makes hair various shades of black in the long run.
― Jaq, Thursday, 7 April 2011 00:54 (fifteen years ago)
Is Grecian Formula even sold anymore? It's not what I was thinking about anyway. My husband suggested that I get a red rinse, but I'm worried that I'll either look trashy or like mutton dressed up as lamb.

And salon work is 100% out of the question for money reasons.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:07 (fifteen years ago)
I think you can get DIY lowlight kits? - would that work?
― ljubljana, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:23 (fifteen years ago)
I pull out my wiry grey hairs, which is a terrible, terrible habit as it means I have little fluffy hairs constant growing out on top of my head.
― ljubljana, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:24 (fifteen years ago)
I've never heard of those, but I'll look into it. Also, I'm close to 75% grey, so the plucking hairs method won't work for me.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:28 (fifteen years ago)
Both Grecian Formula and the Just for Men Touch of Gray are both still sold, fwiw.
― Jaq, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:28 (fifteen years ago)
Grecian Formula with the original leaded formulation?
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:30 (fifteen years ago)
Mine's dyed so I only pluck out the little wiry ones that grow anew. I'd be 50% grey were it left to its own devices.
― ljubljana, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:39 (fifteen years ago)
I'd be bald if I tried that, and I had trichotillomania as a child (which is probably why my hair's so thin) so I really don't want to risk a relapse.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:59 (fifteen years ago)
Lead acetate is allowed in hair coloring products at concentrations of 0.4% or less in the US. The Canadian reformulation uses bismuth citrate, which is also toxic.

― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 7 April 2011 03:04 (fifteen years ago)
christine, i think if you're mostly grey, a red rinse might come out pink? idk
― just1n3, Thursday, 7 April 2011 03:20 (fifteen years ago)
yeah would not recommend a red rinse on 75% grey.
this conversation is making my want to dye! or... wave.

― ENBB, Thursday, 7 April 2011 19:36 (fifteen years ago)
Wait A, did you cut off all your hair?
― ENBB, Thursday, 7 April 2011 19:37 (fifteen years ago)
me? i don't have that much hair to cut off, but no. i just thought about this song when i read "wave" so i posted it impulsively
honestly i kinda want extensions but they seem so expensive and high maintenance and just not like something i would do
― Ralpharina (La Lechera), Thursday, 7 April 2011 19:38 (fifteen years ago)
oooh! I thought you were waving goodbye to your hair or something lol. n/m
― ENBB, Thursday, 7 April 2011 19:40 (fifteen years ago)
no way man -- last time i got my hair cut super short (like pixie short) it was a terrible idea. just awful. will never do that by choice again.
― Ralpharina (La Lechera), Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:02 (fifteen years ago)
Lech!!! Those feather things would be awesome on you!
― Back up the lesbian canoe (Laurel), Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:02 (fifteen years ago)
Because unlike full-on hair extensions, you just get one or two! So dramatic and way less money.
― Back up the lesbian canoe (Laurel), Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:03 (fifteen years ago)
xp What??!!! That was ultra cute! You have the elusive Face Appropriate for a Pixie Cut. And the right attitude, too.

god, no way, not ever again by choice
― Ralpharina (La Lechera), Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:06 (fifteen years ago)
aw i thought that was a supercute look on you too! if it was the look i think it was. but having recently gone through my own v v short hair trauma, i understand.
― horseshoe, Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:47 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, I can totally understand too even tho I think it would look really cute on you.
― ENBB, Thursday, 7 April 2011 21:02 (fifteen years ago)
I loved having short hair but have come to realization that the Texas matrons were right: the bigger the hair, the smaller the hips.
― quincie, Thursday, 7 April 2011 21:23 (fifteen years ago)
i need new hair. should i dye it?
― tehresa, Thursday, 7 April 2011 22:03 (fifteen years ago)
Yay, just got a surprise haircut because my hairdresser had a last-min cancellation so now I have a nice lightweight bob again instead of long heavy all-over-the-place hair! But boo, she's leaving town and she's the only one who underSTANDS me and gives me a nice head massage :(

Ladies, I'm going back to the blond. I have been repressed beneath this dark cloud long enough.
― calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Monday, 11 April 2011 21:32 (fifteen years ago)
I just used the Touch Of Grey stuff on my hair, and the problem is that it took off too much grey--I wanted 50% grey and it left me with 15-25%. I'll try a lighter touch with the coloring comb next month.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Monday, 11 April 2011 21:41 (fifteen years ago)

i am getting my hair did today!not sure what is going to happen yet.
― tehresa, Saturday, 23 April 2011 15:06 (fifteen years ago)
i am giving my hair an improvised hot oil treatment. i didn't bother to do any research, i just mixed some peppermint oil with some olive oil, heated it, rubbed it into my scalp and ends and put a shower cap on.
― just1n3, Saturday, 23 April 2011 18:03 (fifteen years ago)
I'm sure it will work fine. My old stylist used to recommend at-home olive oiling.
― tehresa, Saturday, 23 April 2011 19:07 (fifteen years ago)
i got some v v subtle lowlights but you can't really tell in these pics because apparently my camera loves to overexpose shit! but i think you should all witness the amazing 3-brush blowout so i took a few pics in a mall dressing room while it was still fresh.http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp95/tza/IMG_0264.jpg http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp95/tza/IMG_0265.jpg

xp I think rosemary oil is the better bet, esp. for brown hair.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 24 April 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)
Sexy hair, tehresa!I hope you do not mind me asking but is part of your eyebrow white? My best friend has a white eyebrow. It happens to the coolest women, probably.
― offee is for losers only, do you not c? (Abbbottt), Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:03 (fifteen years ago)
Does she have any other white spots on her body? Does she have any problems seeing out of that eye?
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:14 (fifteen years ago)
I mean that you know of, obviously.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:15 (fifteen years ago)
Just white eyebrow hairs.
― offee is for losers only, do you not c? (Abbbottt), Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:16 (fifteen years ago)
yes, my eyebrow is white. i also have a few very small patches of white skin (but i tend to stay out of the sun and i'm so pale that they are basically impossible to see to anyone but me). it appeared suddenly in middle school... dermo said it was vitiligo - same thing that made michael jackson white!
― tehresa, Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:27 (fifteen years ago)
my hair is the most hilarious trainwreck right now
― five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:27 (fifteen years ago)
for a long time, i colored it in with an eyebrow pencil. but it looked moronic. in college, a friend convinced me to leave it white. i had it pierced for a while to be *really* weird. then i took it out because i grew up and had to get a real job.
― tehresa, Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:29 (fifteen years ago)
So you have vitiligo rather than piebaldism, then. (The blindness question was because piebaldism can be a symptom of some really nasty congenital disorders.)
