ljubljana, i have the supernatural airbrush canvas foundation but I only used it once. too bronzing for my liking but i like to be pale.

philosophy's 'the present' (no makeup makeup) was a big disappointment

I'm so so on that, too. I won't throw it out, but I won't buy it again.

roxy i believe concealer around the outer corners of your nose. illuminator/highlighter should go along cheekbones in an arch to your browbone and slightly above, down the ridge of your nose, a lil dot above your lips cupids bow, a dot on the inside corner of each eye and some say the chin but i dont really think it look so great on my chin. all of this is to highlight the bone structure. peeps who put illuminator all over their face (i noticed a lot of mac products have illuminators in their foundation (hyperreal?) and moisturizers but i think all this leads to is looking moon faced.

I've decided that the white-over-pale-pink eye makeup look is too pale, so I've gone back to my old makeup until I can get some extra money together to try something else out--a more vivid pink, maybe?

xpost to sunny - me too. I thought the palest shade looked pretty pale on the site, but IRL maybe not - that's often a problem for me.

Products that bronze should be kept all together in corner somewhere so we can avoid them IMHO.

i got it to try to smooth dry skin/exfoliate and also remove lol age spots (sun damage) on my cheeks
has mostly worked! i was pretty good about doing it every week for a while, but then i didn't want to buy it again so i stopped for a while and did it 1x/mo.
the lady at sephora sold me on it when she straight talked me and said that basically nothing is going to get rid of these spots, but acid will help. nothing short of acid will do anything.

Christine - I think that very light colored eye make up (ie the white-over-pale-pink eye makeup) can be kinda garish on anyone out of their teens. It's pretty hard to pull off well imo. If you have hazel/green eyes then soft browns with some gold in them (Covergirl eye singles in taupe is a great drugstore shade) or some plums (purples supposedly bring out the green) might be easier to wear and look really nice.

Except my friend who is an Esthetician and gave me a facial a couple weeks ago was bitching that my pores were too small for her to do extractions so maybe I should stay away.

Will check out philosophy stuff in general tho cause ppl seem to really like it.

Reviews on When Hope Is Not Enough are pretty mixed on MUA, FYI. I probably liked it because I never ever buy anything assuming it will help with wrinkles so I am therefore never disappointed when it doesn't. I felt like it had a slightly more noticeable brightening/smoothing effect than my old standby Clinique Total Turnaround plus the packaging was more fun and I liked the smell.

Hope in a Jar stung my face and smelled a little too strongly, but I ended up using the whole sample bc I liked the result. Prob wouldn't buy it.

Agree with E on the purples for green/hazel for sure. I have the same eye color and LOVE Milani's 'Runways Eyes' in the purple shades:

It even has a neat pointed kind of brush to use the shadow as eyeliner. Well, that's what I use it for anyways. I think it cost me about $7 from Walgreens.

sometimes it looks a little garish because my eyes are quite yellowy green (more than brown-green), so the purple is like PURPLE AND GREEN but good for nights
not so great for work unless i feel like being kinda garish. usually i stick with neutrals for work. (but i also have people staring at me for 3 hours at work, so i am slightly more conscious of looking crazy)

Amanda, I bought an Aveda purple eye shadow duo ($5 on clearance from the place where I get my haircut) and it does not do it for me. Would you like it? I've only used it once and I'm a clean person without pink eye.

Yeha Lech I'm the same. I have really yellowish green eyes and tend to save the purple for night and stick to the browns (like the CG Taupe or MAC Patina) for day. Gold can also look really nice sometimes but it has to be the right shade imo.

I would try gold but purple and green look garish on my green/brown eyes. I LIKE pink and white eyeshadow.

I wear a LOT of red, white, & black and other primary colors and I think greens and browns would fight with that. Pink at least just looks like my skin, but better...or rosier or more shadowed, or whatever.

So, in conclusion, I believe there is a place for pink.

Oh I don't match my make-up to my clothes ever. Today I'm wearing black and white stripes but have on the Taupe mentioned above. It's not heavy or anything so I don't think anyone would be like OMG black and brown! I think it just looks sort of neutral.

I used to try to match it but realized I look pretty awful in grey shadow so a soft gold/brown has become my standard nuetral.

Laurel I can see pink looking good on you! It was just the way Christine described baby pink layered over white - it sounded sorta teen girl frosty and think that can be really hard to wear for a lot of people.

Oh taupey brown, yes. Skin colored. Sorry, I was imagining BROWN browns like the actual color of brown eyes.

My skin is rly rly pink btw. It makes other colors look a lot pinker, might as well skip the middleman and just go pink in the first place.

lol that is basically what my eyeliner looks like so! Minus the pencilled brows and the lipstick. And the beauty spot. Just the eyeliner. Not the crazy.

xp It was actually white over pale pink, and the problem was that it disappeared, not looked garish. The shadow I was using (Neutrogena's Shimmer Sheers in Pebble) is a brown-with-gold and a light clay-with-gold. I'll look into plum when I can.

re: scars - Look into microneedling. I'm thinking about it after checking into the research but don't know if I'm brave enough.

laser resurfacing would do the trick, too, but $$$

i have green hazel eyes (with a fair bit of gold and a ring of dark blue around the outside) and i LOVE plums, but only as liner or crease shade unless it's an evening/darkly lit occasion. i use very very light gold as my base shade most of the time (i can't do taupe or browns because my skin is too pale and it looks dirty on me), and sometimes use a pale pink, but i think v pale gold tends to compliment my eye color better and look less frosty.

The eyeliner I'm using now is the only gold eyeshadow I can find that isn't more yellow than anything else--I do not want yellow around my eyes.

(The scars aren't the reason for the bangs, BTW. I didn't get chickenpox until I was 24. That was just the way my parents had my hair cut, and I didn't bother to change it until recently.)

HEY ANYONE. Is there a makeup that will seriously cover a tattoo if you had to go to a formal event in a strapless dress and didn't want it showing? It's not for me, it's for...a friend. No seriously, I don't have any tattoos. But I would love to know if there is such a product.

I've used dermablend to cover one of mine and it worked perfectly. That stuff is magic.
